POSSIBLE CAUSES
The increase in steering pump torque causes the belt to slip on the alternator pulley.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the alternator pulley.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Remove the A/C suction line from the brackets.
5. Remove the coolant reservoir, then remove the power steering fluid reservoir from the bracket.

6. Remove the harness holder, then disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector.
7. Disconnect the alternator connector and the positive alternator cable from the alternator.
8. Remove the mounting bolt and alternator bracket mounting bolt, then remove the alternator.

9. Clamp the alternator firmly in a vise. Remove the pulley locknut with a 22 mm wrench and a 10 mm wrench, then
remove the alternator pulley.
NOTE: If necessary, use an impact wrench.
10. Install the new decoupler alternator pulley by threading it onto the alternator shaft. Then insert the alternator OAD
pulley holder into the decoupler pulley.
NOTE: The new decoupler alternator pulley is threaded internally; the nut will no longer be used.

11. Hold the alternator OAD pulley holder with a 17 mm wrench. Place a 10 mm deep socket wrench through the center
of the alternator OAD pulley holder onto the hex on the end of the alternator shaft, then torque the alternator shaft
counterclockwise to 80 N∙m (59 lb-ft).
12. Install the new decoupler pulley cap.
NOTE: Make sure the new decoupler pulley cap is installed securely.
13. Install the alternator, then torque the mounting bolt to 44 N∙m (33 lb-ft) and the alternator bracket bolt to
22 N∙m (16 lb-ft).

14. Connect the alternator connector and the positive alternator cable to the alternator then, torque it to
12 N∙m (8.8 lb-ft). Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal faces away from the alternator when you
connect it.
15. Install the harness holder and torque the bolt to 12 N∙m (8.8 lb-ft), then connect the A/C compressor clutch
connector.
16. Install the power steering fluid reservoir to the bracket, then install the coolant reservoir.
17. Install the A/C suction line to the bracket bolt and torque it to 12 N∙m (8.8 lb-ft).
18. Install the drive belt.
19. Install the engine cover.
20. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
