Warranty Policies and Procedures Bulletin
Audi Warranty
Number: AWA-16-09
Subject: Extended Warranty Coverage for Exhaust Gas
Temperature Sensor
Date: Dec 19, 2016
Dealers: U.S., Puerto Rico
This document modifies the
Audi Warranty Policies and
Procedures Manual.
Effective Reception Date: Dec 19, 2016
Audi is extending warranty coverage for the exhaust gas temperature sensor for certain 2014 – 2015
model year vehicles with 3.0L TDI engines with engine codes CNRB, CPNA, or CPNB (under specific
conditions) to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s original in-service date.
What is the problem?
Audi has determined that, due to a manufacturing issue, it is possible for an exhaust gas temperature
sensor (located in the vehicle’s EGR cooler) to sporadically malfunction. This causes the Malfunction
Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate due to the presence of specific fault codes caused by this component.
This malfunction may also cause an impact on emissions and may cause a vehicle to fail an IM (emissions)
test.
What is covered under this warranty extension
This warranty extension covers diagnosis and replacement of a faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor, if it
is determined through diagnosis that the faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor caused the MIL light to
turn on and stay on in a vehicle that is within the time and mileage limits of this warranty extension.
What is not covered under this warranty extension
► Any damage or malfunctions caused by using non-genuine Audi Parts, or parts that alter the
performance of the engine, engine controls, or exhaust system, such as the installation of engine
management components ("chipped" or "tuned" ECMs) not approved by Audi.
► Other conditions unrelated to a faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor that may cause the MIL to
illuminate. These conditions may require repairs that are needed for proper diagnosis of the underlying
condition. Any repairs that are (1) necessary for proper diagnosis of these other conditions or (2)
required to bring the vehicle up to factory specifications are not covered by this warranty extension.
► Damage or malfunctions caused by outside influence, such as damage due to an accident, or vehicle
misuse or neglect, and repairs that are necessary for proper diagnosis of these conditions or required to
bring the vehicle up to factory specifications are not covered by this warranty extension.
