Car-Net™ Operating Control Unit (OCU/J949) Service Guidelines & General Information OCU / Car-Net modules with software 078 or 086 SHOULD NOT be replaced for the following fault codes: • B201700: Control module locked • B105213: Control unit for cell phone preparation open circuit • U112300: Databus error value received • B1788F0: Control Module Immobilizer deactivated • SW 078 equipped cars will have a brief “Chirp” or “In-Band modem noise” when making a connection. This is a characteristic operation and no repairs should be performed. • Swapping of OCU modules from car-to-car for diagnosis or repair is discouraged as corruption of stored vehicle data and subscription information within OCU is possible. • Current Service Parts should have software level of 078 or 086 (Higher levels pending). Do not install lower software level into vehicle than was removed, i.e. DO NOT replace a SW086 with a SW078. Tip: Car-Net equipped vehicles have PR code “EL2” and address word “75” along with 3-button assembly in overhead console. Page 1 of 3 © 2014 Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. All rights reserved. Technical Bulletin Technical Background Software related fault codes: Faults related to the software level 078 or 086 noted above, will not cause any negative operational problems or customer reported symptoms. B201700 and U112300 faults may erase but will generally return immediately. B105213 May set if instrument Illumination is turned to 100% No diagnosis or repair is necessary for any of these fault codes. Software operating characteristics SW078 “Chirp” • Software Level 086 introduced. Faults stored in OCU (Address 75) in both Software levels 078 and 086 • Software update under development. Swapping of OCU Each OCU is specifically tied to vehicle VIN, Vehicle Build Information and customer. Swapping modules from car-to-car can potentially corrupt data stored within module and/or at Verizon Telematics (VZT). During PDI, LED does not illuminate: • Odometer has 5+ miles. • Confirm “Transport” and “Factory” modes are disabled • No related fault(s) • AT&T 3G (data) coverage necessary for successful Over The Air Registration (OTAR). Unsuccessful Over The Air Registration (OTAR) When a vehicle is removed from transport mode the OCU will attempt to perform the OTAR. If unsuccessful an internal clock inside the OCU must run down before it will attempt to re-register Time increases exponentially with each failed OTAR attempt (i.e. 1min 2, 4, 8, 16…) up to 24 hours. Note following if OTAR fails: • Clock will count down regardless of key status (OFF or ON). • Upon switching the ignition key ON after clock has counted down the OCU will re-attempt the OTAR (if clock has counted down). • Switching ignition key ON prior to the clock running down will not add time to the clock. • There is no Measured Value Block to check time remaining on clock. • Ensure location where cars are being removed from transport mode has AT&T 3G coverage.
