(volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 audi a3 sedan, 2015-2019 audi a3 cabriolet, 2019-2020 volkswagen jetta gli, 2018 golf sportwagen gp, 2018-2019 golf sportwagen a7, 2015-2017 golf sportwagen, 2015-2020 golf gti, and 2015-2020 golf a7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (evap) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
  dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed april 10, 2024. Safety risk: exposed sharp edges can create the risk of a cut.   Issue: on certain vehicles, a build-up of silicate on the shift lever switch could cause the transmission to detect that it is in the park position when it isn't. This could allow the ignition key to be removed when the transmission is not in the park position. If the parking brake is not applied, this could allow the car to roll away. Safety risk: if the transmission position is not displayed correctly, a user may not know that the vehicle is not in the park position. If the parking brake is not applied, this could create a risk of a vehicle roll-away and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have a new shift lever micro switch and control unit installed.

  On certain vehicles, the suction pump inside the fuel tank designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system may be compromised. This could cause fuel to flow directly into the evap system which could, over time, accumulate and cause a leak through the charcoal canister filter element.   On certain vehicles, the camshaft lobe which actuates the vacuum pump may fail, causing the pump to fail to deliver further vacuum supply to the brake booster, potentially increasing stopping distances. This would also result in a reduction in available engine power. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Note: this issue would result in the engine malfunction indicator light (mil) illuminating. Correction: dealers will update the engine control module (ecm) software.

  On certain vehicles, the stabilizer link fasteners may have been improperly torqued during the assembly process. As a result, the fasteners may loosen over time. • Fuel leak due to suction jet pump failure within fuel tank (remedy effectiveness of recall 16v-647) investigation # RQ23007

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 79 complaints and several tread (transportation recall enhancement, accountability and documentation) field reports alleging a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, or fuel odor in model year (my) 2015-2020 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles manufactured by volkswagen (vw). the complaints allege that these conditions are caused by the failure of the suction jet pump located in the fuel tank. Some consumers report puddles, pools, or spots of fuel in the rear right area of the vehicle, near the fuel tank filler door and rear right wheel well. The fuel tank either straddles the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler or is adjacent to this pipe in these vehicles. Fuel leaking near exhaust system components has a higher potential risk of fire as the components are operating at higher temperatures compared to other areas of the vehicle. No fires have been connected to this issue to date. Vw issued recall 16v-647 on september 2, 2016, for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, which was designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system and stated the suction jet pump may have been damaged during assembly. Vw states that this damage could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the evap system which may, over time, accumulate in and cause a leak from the charcoal canister filter element. This recall covered certain my 2015-2016 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles. Repair in recall 16v-647 replaces the suction jet pump only. In october 2022, vw issued warranty extensions (awa-22-12 & vwp-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in my 2015-2020 audi a3 / volkswagen golf and my 2019-2020 jetta gli vehicles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump. Vehicles included within recall 16v-647 are included within the scope of the warranty extensions. Should the suction jet pump installed as the remedy for recall 16v-647 fail, these vehicles will receive an improved suction jet pump in the new fuel tank. The warranty extension only applies to vehicles that experience the subject failure. Consumers received notification of the warranty extensions via mail. Odi is opening this recall query (rq) to assess the remedy repair effectiveness of recall 16v-647 and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. The sunroof on my car spontaneously exploded with no known cause. I was driving west on i-76 near pittsburgh pa, going 70 mph. Suddenly a sound like a gunshot was heard and the sunroof had shattered leaving a big hole. The glass was contained above me and the passenger because the sun roof shade happened to be closed.

When in motion on any type of road after 30-40 minutes the steering wheel becomes 'heavy' and hard to turn. The power steering has failed. I had this issue 'fixed' by the dealership two years ago, but it is occurring again.

Paid to have new vw turbo put in car and it lasted 116 miles. Took it back and it was diagnosed that the turbo had failed and the turbine broke and fell into the motor. As a result it blew the motor. Vw warranty refused to warranty the part and take any responsibility for the blown engine. Even the dealer ship agreed it was a faulty turbo and as a result it blew the engine.

Gear selector chrome trim peels and cuts to the skin. Dealers will only sell entire gear selector assemblies $285+. Trim piece can be found on ali express (aftermarket) for $16. It is exact match, fit and finish. What vw and its dealers are doing to many clients is unacceptable. Look at forums and see how many people have had their hands sliced by the peeling chrome. Cars are not under warranty forever. But problems that occur to most models, if you slashed your hand while driving - that could lead to an accident. There is an alternative, but it takes non manufacturer parts to fix affordably. Why can't vw either offer this part a la carte or give an extended warranty? Why do i need to buy an entire gear selector for a simple chrome plated piece of plastic to be replaced? The gear selector works fine, it's the chrome trim that is a separate part that peels. I'm just angry because i have to go around the world and trust an unknown chinese company to supply a part that vw already makes and won't sell on its own. And it's not just me, it's almost everyone whose bought one of these cars. Slicing your hand while driving causes some distraction. I thank god i didn't wreck when it happened to me. Please make them either recall the part or at least acknowledge it. The vehicle was on fl highway 16 when i slashed my hand on the peeling chrome trying to turn down the air conditioning.
