The use of contaminated gasoline, seasonal fuel changes (summer/winter fuel) or
gasoline with a low content of deposit control additives may result in one or more
of the following conditions:

Excessive accumulation of deposits on intake valves, intake manifold, fuel
injectors and combustion chambers.
 Engine runs rough after cold start.
 Excessive engine cranking time.
 Stumbles while driving.
 Rough engine idle.
 Loss of engine performance.
 Poor fuel economy.
Conditions may be severe enough to illuminate the MIL in conjunction with storage
in the ECM data memory of DTCs for misfire (example: P0300, P030x) and / or
lean fuel system (example: P0171, P0174, P1128, P1130, P1136, P1138).
Production Solution: No production change required.

Note: Customer concerns of “electric coolant fans continue to run after ignition is
switched off” are resulting in unnecessary coolant fan replacements.
It is considered normal operation for the electric coolant fans to continue to run for
up to 15 minutes after the ignition is switched off in gasoline engine applications,
and up to 16 minutes in diesel engine applications.
Production Solution: No production change required.

This will occur when driving and only when listening to AM/FM radio stations. This
results from the antennae signals “bouncing” off of buildings or other structures,
amplifying the radio signal. This is a normal characteristic. As such, no repairs
should be made.

The rear hatch area where the hybrid battery tray is located does not sufficiently
drain. Because of this, any water entering this area remains below the hatch floor
cover in the battery tray and is not easily visible to customers. If too much water
collects in this area, it could cause an electrical short in the high voltage battery. An
electrical short in the high voltage battery caused by significant water intrusion may
lead to a vehicle fire.

The driver frontal airbag inflator could rupture if the vehicle is involved in a crash
where the frontal airbags are designed to deploy. In the event of an inflator rupture,
metal fragments could pass through the air bag cushion material, which may result
in injury or death to vehicle occupants.
Volkswagen is not aware of any ruptured SDI or PSDI-5 inflator in any
Volkswagen Group vehicle worldwide. There have been no injuries or deaths
related to this issue.
