Technical Background After replacing the battery on vehicles equipped with -J367- Battery Monitoring Control Module, it is necessary to adapt the battery to the vehicle. If the adaptation is not completed, the start/stop function will be inoperative. Additionally, charging system operation may be effected and various DTCs can result. In some instances, a new battery’s label may be missing information needed to properly adapt the battery, or the label may be missing altogether. Service First, locate the battery adaptation test plan through Guided Functions of Address Word 0019 (J533 - Data Bus on Board Diagnostic Interface) or the select self-test feature (Test Plan tab > Select self-test > Diagnosis-capable systems > 0019 - Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface > Battery Adaptation > Attach to test plan). Should a replacement battery be missing its label, or the label is missing needed information, the battery can still be successfully adapted using other information. The following is needed: The Ampere Hour (Ah) rating of the battery. ETKA can be used to look up battery ratings. The battery manufacturer/vendor code. In the absence of a vendor code on the battery label, “JCB” can be used to complete the adaptation. The type of battery (EFB, EFB+, AGM, etc.). This information can be entered manually during the adaptation test plan. When left blank, the serial number will autofill with the next sequence number of battery replacement. 1 Technical Tip 27-20-02TT - Battery Adaptation – Battery Label Missing Transaction No: 2061811/3 Release date: 5/4/2023 Figure 1: Example of battery information in the test plan, also showing the serial number auto-filled.
