• Recall 257076 [USA]: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  Volkswagen group of america, inc. (volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 audi a3 sedan, 2015-2019 audi a3 cabriolet, 2019-2020 volkswagen jetta gli, 2018 golf sportwagen gp, 2018-2019 golf sportwagen a7, 2015-2017 golf sportwagen, 2015-2020 golf gti, and 2015-2020 golf a7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (evap) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
  dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed april 10, 2024.   Issue: on certain vehicles, the warning label for the engine block heater cable is written in english only. As a result, a french user may not receive important safety information about how to use the engine block heater. A label that is not provided in both official languages could create confusion.   Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could cause damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure. Safety risk: a rear tire failure could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could also create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have both of the rear axle coil springs replaced. If a broken coil spring is found, the rear tires should be inspected for damage and replaced as required.

  On certain vehicles, the park position switch may malfunction due to a problem with the electrical contacts. This could allow for removal of the ignition key without the shift lever being in the park (p) position. If the parking brake is not applied, this could result in unintended vehicle movement, which could increase the risk of crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install an additional park position switch and circuit board.

  Certain vehicles with factory installed 15-inch tires may fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 110 - tire selection and rims. The certification label incorrectly states the sidewall height for the rear tires, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard. The rear tire specification on the label should read 195/65 r15. Correction: dealers will install a new tire information label with correct specifications.

• Fuel leak due to suction jet pump failure within fuel tank (remedy effectiveness of recall 16v-647) investigation # RQ23007

  The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 79 complaints and several tread (transportation recall enhancement, accountability and documentation) field reports alleging a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, or fuel odor in model year (my) 2015-2020 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles manufactured by volkswagen (vw). the complaints allege that these conditions are caused by the failure of the suction jet pump located in the fuel tank. Some consumers report puddles, pools, or spots of fuel in the rear right area of the vehicle, near the fuel tank filler door and rear right wheel well. The fuel tank either straddles the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler or is adjacent to this pipe in these vehicles. Fuel leaking near exhaust system components has a higher potential risk of fire as the components are operating at higher temperatures compared to other areas of the vehicle. No fires have been connected to this issue to date. Vw issued recall 16v-647 on september 2, 2016, for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, which was designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system and stated the suction jet pump may have been damaged during assembly. Vw states that this damage could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the evap system which may, over time, accumulate in and cause a leak from the charcoal canister filter element. This recall covered certain my 2015-2016 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles. Repair in recall 16v-647 replaces the suction jet pump only. In october 2022, vw issued warranty extensions (awa-22-12 & vwp-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in my 2015-2020 audi a3 / volkswagen golf and my 2019-2020 jetta gli vehicles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump. Vehicles included within recall 16v-647 are included within the scope of the warranty extensions. Should the suction jet pump installed as the remedy for recall 16v-647 fail, these vehicles will receive an improved suction jet pump in the new fuel tank. The warranty extension only applies to vehicles that experience the subject failure. Consumers received notification of the warranty extensions via mail. Odi is opening this recall query (rq) to assess the remedy repair effectiveness of recall 16v-647 and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. Abs/esc/airbag lights lit when vehicle started. Problem persisted for two days after rain storm. Water had been observed in the passenger footwell, and was verified to be coming from a plugged sun roof drain. Overflowing drain may contribute to body rust, mildew/mold, or electrical problems as reported.

The contact took the vehicle to ganley bedford imports (250 broadway ave, bedford, oh 44146) where it was diagnosed with a sun roof drainage pipe failure which resulted in damages to the wires and connectors from the water leaking into the vehicle. The wires and connectors were replaced, however the failure recurred. The contact stated that the electrical components were not operating as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 32,951.
