Removing Paint Contaminants from Exterior Paint
Removing paint contaminants such as rail dust and industrial fallout from exterior paint.
Technical Background
Industrial fallout in most cases is rail dust (small air borne metal particles) that are thrown into the air from rail
trains or vehicle brake linings. When it lands on the vehicle it may stay on the surface until the paint is properly
cleaned.

 Wash and rinse vehicle thoroughly
using 3M™ Body Shop Clean-Up Car
Wash Soap (Figure 1). Follow
instructions on the product label.
 Check exterior surfaces using your
hand to feel for a rough or gritty texture,
indicating contaminants.

 If contaminants are found, work affected
areas with 3M™ Perfect-It III™ Cleaner
Clay (Figure 2) following instructions on
the product label. Use the 3M™ Car
Wash Shampoo as a lubricant. Repeat
as necessary.

Tip:
To reduce scratching, knead clay periodically and store in container.
WARNING:
Dispose of bar when contamination becomes excessive.
