Technical Background
Incorrect assembly in production allows too much length in the sunroof drain between the second and third
securing clips. This causes excess slack in the drain hose allowing the foam block to contact the hose.
Production Solution
Assembly process assured as of VIN: AU_ JM765566.
Service
Inspect the Rear Sunroof Drain Hoses
1. Open the sunroof all the way.
2. Open the sunshade 2/3rds of the way.
3. Using the pry lever 80-200, slide it along between the cover frame (Figure 2, -2-) and the headliner (Figure 2, -1) until the lever comes in contact with one of the clips (Figure 2, -3-).
Note:
Clean the pry lever 80-200 prior to using to avoid soiling the headliner.
4. Unclip the cover frame (Figure 2, -2-) in the area near the clips (Figure 2, -3-) using the pry lever 80-200 (Figure
2, -arrow-).

5. Remove the C-Pillar trim panels. See repair manual group 70 in ELSA.
6. Remove the D-Pillar trim panels. See repair manual group 70 in ELSA.
7. Loosen the rear roof grab handles from the mounts in the grab handle brackets. DO NOT completely remove.
See repair manual group 68 in ELSA.
8. Remove the luggage compartment lamp. See repair group 96 in ELSA.
9. Carefully lower the rear of the headliner and inspect the rear sunroof drain hoses. The drain hoses should be
replaced if they show signs of being pinched by the foam blocks on the headliner (Figure 3).
Note:
Care must be taken when working with the headliner. The headliner bends easily. Damage to the headliner during
this repair is not covered by warranty. Replace the headliner if it is bent.

Tip:
If the sunroof drains are pinched continue to next step. If the sunroof drains are not pinched, this bulletin does not
apply and further diagnosis is required.

Replace Rear Sunroof Drain(s) Hose and Ensure the Correct Routing of the Hose(s)
1. Finish removing the headliner. See repair manual group 70 in ELSA.
2. Remove and replace the rear sunroof drain hoses. See repair manual group 60 in ELSA.
Tip:
The new hoses (longer than original) should be cut to match the length of the original hoses prior to the
installation. During installation of the new drain hoses, ensure the hoses are pulled taught between the 2nd and 3rd
mounting clips with no excess slack in the hoses (See Figures 4 and 5).
