additional model year vehicle applicability.
Engine Oil Level
Technicians may find during PDI that the oil level is below the full mark, but still within the hash marks on the
engine oil dip stick.
Technical Background
All Volkswagen engines are filled to a specific volume before leaving the factory. This level may vary depending
on the testing conditions, but will always be within the allowable specification for engine protection.
Production Solution
Not applicable.

Service
When checking the engine oil level during PDI, ensure the oil level is within the oil level marks (B range in Figure
1) or (C range in Figure 2) on the oil dip stick.
When checking the engine oil level, ensure the engine is at operating temperature, park the vehicle on a level
surface to help prevent an incorrect oil level reading.
Switch off the engine and wait a five minutes for the engine oil to flow back into the oil pan before checking the
level.
If the oil level is within the B range,
DO NOT add additional oil.

If the oil level is within the C range,
DO NOT add additional oil. The
maximum normal operating range is
at the top of the C range.
If the oil level is within the B range,
DO NOT add additional oil. The B
range is an allowable operational
zone. The oil level may reach this
range due to oil expansion.
If the oil level is in the A range, the
engine oil is overfilled and an oil
service should be performed.

Note:
If the oil level is at a level within the “A” range (Diesel only) an oil level warning light will illuminate.
