P0441

Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

DTC P0441, sometimes indicated as P044100 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the auxiliary emissions system causing evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow.

This code is set when the evaporative emission control system purge flow is incorrect. This can be caused by a number of things, including a blocked purge valve, a leak in the EVAP system, or a defective purge solenoid.
The first step in fixing this code is to determine the cause. Once the cause is known, the appropriate repairs can be made. Often, this code can be caused by a simple vacuum leak, which can be repaired by checking all of the vacuum lines and seals for leaks and repairing as necessary.

Check engine light came on and the performance of the vehicle is bad. Bad idle, weak engine, just the car is not performing properly. I used the scanner to see the code and i had more than one . P0171 P0505 P117B P0441 P0455 . Fuel/air mixture is lean . And i hear the fuel pump making that noise that indicates a bad fuel pump. It's when i put the key in i hear it loud enough and if i turn the key on it does it again. When i put it on p it revs and rpm goes up and then comes down, up again down again ... When stopped at a red light the car wants to move and rpm keeps shaking.

Vehicle was diagnosed by mechanic to have malfunctioning canister purge valve that is stuck in an open position, identical to current recall #18v735000 for certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0l gdi or 2.0l gtdi engine. My vehicle stalls after i refuel for about a minute; i have to repeatedly start and stop my engine until it stays on, and the engine rumbles excessively for a couple minutes after being able to drive after refueling. The check engine light is on for code #P0441.

2015 TOYOTA RAV4 with 50493 miles

Ongoing issues with my fuel system. Car will display one of these many symptoms: -misfire, hard start, stall or shutoff. Other symptoms include car stuttering and stalling out while driving. This last symptom is very dangerous as it often comes with no warning. When the car stalls out, the car is driving up straight up a medium grade hill. I have experienced this on several different dates and times along w 24th st. Austin, tx near 1106 w 24th st. This will happen if i'm either stopping at a light or while in motion. I don't have the exact mph i am driving, but it would be around 20 - 40 mph when this occurs. Ive taken the care to both round rock Toyota and christian auto brothers to address the issue. So far, neither have been able to diagnose the problem. On 5/22/20, christian auto brothers replaced the evaporative emissions system leak detection unit r&r, the fuel evaporative canister r&r, the evaporative emissions system leak detection pump, and the vapor canister purge solenoid. This did not resolve the issue. Current codes: P0441, P0455, P1604, P1605, P0171. While no diagnostic proof has been established, it is hypothesized by the mechanics that there is an issue with either the fuel pump or the fuel line. After reading about the 2020 Toyota fuel pump recall, i believe my 2015 Rav4 has been experiencing similar issues. However, it is not part of the recall. Therefore i am submitting this incident info to document the current situation. If i learn more, i will try to update.

This vehicle has had a re-occurring engine light for code for the past year and a half. The code is P0441. Not only has this code been a nuisance it is also causing the vehicle to stall. I believe the emission system is purging the fuel vapors at the wrong time. We have taken the vehicle to two separate dealers for service for a total of 7 separate visits. The engine light continues to come back on and once that happens the vehicle will stall randomly at slower speeds. One stall was specifically turning a corner at slow speeds. Another stall occurred in parking lot maneuvers. I have googled this vehicle with this code and it is a very common problem.

Then waited an hour put car in neutral see if car starts it did. After driving that day while driving car acceleration began to go fast by itself on a highway then jerk rpm dropped down while driving my children in the car. Went back to auto shop they said since car is working now can't hook up system to check p codes because it won't show up if it's working.Told me drive 60 miles to see prob continue. Next morning car didn't start, no fuse signal shows. Then car was dead one click sound ,no stall. Called roadside assist and tried to jump battery. 2007 LEXUS LS with 171000. miles

When driving warning lights came on vsc(vehicle stability control), traction control, check engine; warning text to take to dealer. The cruise control did not work and the performance of the motor declined, loss of power and excessive engine noise. When stationary upon inspection both high pressure fuel pumps that reside in the rear top of the valve covers showed signs of leaking gasoline and oil. The passenger side was so bad that the chance of igniting was imminent, as it leaked onto the exhaust below and came in contact with an o2 sensor directly below on the engine block, that has an electrical connector. My vehicle currently has 170k miles. At 85k miles the recall #10v30900 (valve springs) was performed. Upon investigation this recall was incomplete as it did not include a serviceable part gasket #2322438010 that should have been included in the "valve spring kit"#0400037338. This gasket is always replaced when the fuel pumps are removed. It resides in the valve cover under the removable fuel pump plate. All other serviceable gaskets in the fuel pump were included: 2 o-rings for mount bolts, 2 ring gaskets for fuel dampener, 1pump to plate gasket but not the plate to valve cover gadket. This is a known leaking problem for 2007-2008 Ls460 (years included in the recall), most commonly seen as oil leaks at the valve cover but mine and others show degradation to where gas leaks from the pump to plate gasket as well. The possibility of a severely deteriated gasket at the valve cover #2322438010 has the possibility of pieces falling into the moveable parts area that were the reason for the recall. This non replaced gasket should have been replaced and it has created a fire hazard. I currently show dtc P0455, P0441, P0455, P0441. The P0012 vsc error has resolved recently after clearing the memory.

I was driving on the highway going approximately 65 mph and the car just started to slow down in the middle of the freeway. I pulled over safely and waited for tow service because the car would not start. Over the next few days i repeatedly tried to start the car and it would not start. The consumer stated the recall that was performed on the vehicle failed, as the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle started to idle harshly. When the consumer called the dealer, about the vehicle being repaired, she was informed any additional repairs would not be covered under the recall, even though she was experiencing problems directly related to the recall. The consumer took the vehicle to a local mechanic, where she was informed a code of P0440 and P0441, were related to the pcm, which he believed was the fuel pump causing the readings. Shortly thereafter, the light illuminated again, and the consumer was advised it was the same codes. Over the past two years, the pcm was reprogrammed, when it should have been replaced. I brought my 1996 Mazda 626 into hoehn Mazda of carlsbad, ca for a specific code (P0441-evap emissions control-incorrect purge flow). The dealership mechanic pulled a code of P0741- slipping torque converter. They said i would need a transmission replacement (which would be the third or fourth for this vehicle). I stated that may be a problem since the overdrive light had been blinking and also stated that there was a service bulletin on these particular transmissions. Soon after i checked my car's vin number on carfax and noticed a note placed by Mazda that this car had no recalls on it. Hoehn Mazda told me that this was a good thing as it meant that my particular type car was ok. I interpreted it to mean that this was a warning to dealerships not to do any "free work" on my Mazda. These ford transmissions (cd4e) really do need a recall. I believe the fix is a better pump (sonnax) and have seen many, many complaints regarding this particular transmission over the years. I just want to add my own complaint and dissatisfaction with this particular dealerships treatment of a customer. They never diagnosed the original P0441 complaint and charged me $88 for the advice on replacing my transmission. How was this transmission treated? Fluid change annually or even more often; driven extremely gently, and failed like clockwork.
