Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
DTC P0191, sometimes indicated as P019100 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing fuel rail pressure sensor a circuit range/performance.
The fuel rail pressure sensor measures the fuel pressure in the fuel rail. The PCM uses this information to calculate the amount of fuel to inject. The DTC P0191 is set when the PCM detects a fuel rail pressure sensor A circuit range/performance problem.
There are several things that can cause this DTC to set. The most common causes are a bad fuel rail pressure sensor, a wiring problem, or a problem with the PCM.
If the fuel rail pressure sensor is bad, the replacement will solve the problem. If there is a wiring problem, the wiring should be checked and repaired as necessary. If the PCM is bad, it will need to be replaced.

Check engine light came on while driving Jetta tdi to/from work. Took it to dealer and they reported it was the high pressure fuel sensor (vehicle storing fault P0191). They replaced the sensor (thinking it faulty), but the following day the check engine light came on again. Returned the vehicle to the dealer and they reported the same fault. Dealer kept vehicle for investigation. Their investigation revealed metal shavings in the fuel system. The vehicle remained with the dealer between 03/23-03/27 wherein they replaced the entire fuel system. On the morning of 06/29 went to start car and could not get it to start. Vehicle was towed to dealer and the replacement high pressure fuel pump was determined faulty. *js

2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 34511.0 miles
The vehicle was valet parked. The valet attendant reported that the vehicle shut down as she was driving it up the ramp out of the parking garage. She also reported a knocking sound and that the "check engine" light was on. Upon entering the vehicle, i was unable to start it. I had the vehicle towed to the vw dealership. They told me that the high pressure fuel pump had failed and that they had seen other cars coming in with this same problem. Service department paperwork states: "defective high pressure pump-metal in system" and "found fault P0191." vehicle speed at time of incident is estimated based on valet attendant's description.

2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 95681.0 miles
The car stalled going down the road in traffic as i lost power steering and braking. Almost caused a wreck except i pulled the emergency brake. The engine codes pulled were P0191 and P0087. This led my mechanic to discovering this is a well known issue for these 2010 Volkswagen tdi's where the high pressure fuel pump fails. 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA
At 140k miles 2009 volkswagon Jetta tdi stalled out in middle of intersection. Towed to dealer and diagnostics revealed P0191-fuel pressure sensor implausibleand P0087-fuel rail system pressure too low. Volkswagen will not fix due to emissions recall of my vehicle and over warranty. Volkswagen knows this is a defect with the diesel engine and won't fix it.

2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 89936.0 miles
As my wife was driving towards a stop sign at a relatively slow speed, the vehicle check engine light came on and then the car died. As she started to roll backwards, she stopped the car and waited for the other traffic to clear. She was able to restart the car and drive it home as she was less than a mile away. After i returned home, i started the car and noticed the check engine light. At that point the car seemed fine. I went to autozone to see if they could download the error codes that might provide some insight into what component was causing the problem. They could not do that according to ca law. I purchased a obdii code reader and discovered code P0191 and P0087, both relating to the fuel system. P0191 indicated the fuel rail pressure sensor a circuit range / performance. The P0087 indicated the fuel rail / system pressure too low. While researching these codes on the internet i discovered a huge amount of information relating to this issue. I am thankful my wife was not in a huge amount of traffic as she could have been in an accident as a result of the car shutting down without warning. This has been going on with the tdi diesel engine since 2009. Why has there been no recall to fix what i believe is a defective or inferior fuel pump. In the many work orders i have read vw in many cases blamed bad fuel (gas in the diesel tank) as the problem. I have written documentation for every gallon of fuel that has been put in this car since it was new. The car has had all scheduled maintenance completed since the car was new. If this is a known problem why wasn't a recall issued like they did with the dsg transmission. Is this denial on vw's part so they don't get a bunch of bad press?

2008 FORD E-350 with 300342. miles
Vehicle brokedown while traveling at about 45mph on sr20 in washington state without warning and blocked traffic lanes, towed to shop where they found code P0191, swapped relay, unable to crank and verifed not fuel pressure. Found bolts broken off holding internal fuel pump, had to replace fuel tank and pumps. When finsihed vehicle would not crank, found burn markes on back of instrument cluster from short in fuel pump, replaced cluster and vehicle is running fine. More than a week down and just under $5,000.00 for repairs for a fuel pump failure that is internal to the fuel tank, the broken attachment bolts and instant loss of power (not being able to clear the roadway) is the reason for this filing.

While driving in a parking lot the vehicle shut off completely without warning causing lose to all power systems. The vehicle would not start, dealer stated that the fuel pump driver control module is the cause of this. They further stated it is a common issue and should have a recall or some thing for the northern states. Also replaced was the fuel rail pressure sensor(P0191 code). Still no resolve to issue.

Getting code P0191 and P0193 all refer to fuel rail pressure sensor, making the car cut on fuel and lose speed and make you stop no mater if you are running in the freeway or high way, it's creating a hazard to other drivers to crash on you when this happen. Replace the fuel rail pressure sensor twice this month and problem stop for a while and then is back again some refer a bad gas pump system but that is not problem also it happen when car accelerate gas cut off and stop. I ask other Ford Escape and f150 truck owners and they have the same sensor replace even mechanics and local car sale part, told me they been selling the same sensor pressure. I run a circuit test to my old sensor and my new one and i come up with bad results test with power across the sensors connectors. One of the thing i don't like about Ford repairs is ,they are trying to make you paid much money for code readings,parts and labor. This is a priority case that need to be addressee until some one get hurt on road for a simple defecting part.

2004 FORD F-150 with 105000. miles
Replaced fuel pump driver module (fpdm) mounted on a support above the spare tire on a 04 Ford f150.First engine code was P0191 for the fuel rail pressure sensor, engine would crank but not start. Ran scan tool and found code P1237 for the fuel pump driver module. The cast housing of the fpdm is corroded and cracked almost splitting it in two pieces. Had to grind off fpdm and the mounting bolts and drill and tap new mounting holes. After replacing fpdm, truck starts and no longer has a rough idle.
