P0106

Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem

DTC P0106, sometimes indicated as P010600 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing manifold absolute pressure/barometric pressure circuit range/performance problem.

The P0106 code means that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a problem with the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) or barometric pressure (BARO) sensor circuit.
Possible causes of this code include a defective MAP or BARO sensor, a wiring problem, a bad PCM, or a problem with the engine vacuum system.
If you have this code, first check the sensor and wiring for any problems. If everything looks okay, then you may have a bad PCM or a problem with the engine vacuum system.

2016 FORD FOCUS with 29890.0 miles

Just filled my gas tank up then as i left the gas station got about 1 mile up the road then while sitting at a stoplight i turned the ac on and idle dipped, car felt like it was going to die(which it did) then as i tried to re-start, cel came on and car would not start. About 2 more times and it fired up along with a service engine soon message ... Luckily for me i was a block away from future Ford lincoln where i originally purchased the vehicle. 3 days later i got a call saying my vehicle was ready for pick up. I get there and they tell me that the reason was due to i had a aftermarket power wire routed over engine assembly causing electrical interference. So they disconnected what i payed a local professional audio shop $140 to install 2 days after i got the car. So, long story short, i get in the vehicle only to see that my fill up @ the gas station was gone... They used [xxx] near 3/4 of my tank of gas put over 100 miles on my car and i get 2 blocks away from the dealer and at the same light..... **** happens again!!!! Took it right back to the dealer. Just got my car back after 13 days in the shop and i couldn't be more pissed! 4th time i have gone to pick it up after hearing that they fixed the problem only to get in the car, drive it, and have it happen yet another time! They even tried to tell me it was my right front axle causing the problem this time around. ( i just had the left front axle replaced 2 months back at another dealer) throwing grease on a crank sensor causing my cel with dtc "P0106, P0236, P0340, P0344,P0365, P051B, P0532, P06A7, P08A9, P08B9" ...Bla bla bla... They don't know what the problem is but they keep wanting to tell me they found the problem! What a waist of both our time. Now the car is in my driveway, wont start, throwing about 8 to 12 codes and im waiting to hear from Ford customer care. 2016 FORD ESCAPE with 42839.0 miles

2016 Escape with no history or problems prior to events here. During a trip from home approximately 50 miles away vehicle operated just fine. After a 5 min stop, i re-entered and started the vehicle. After about 2 miles and while on the highway traveling 70 mph vehicle suddenly shuttered and acceleration aggravated this situation. Power loss was present, and vehicle stalled out. I coasted to shoulder. Attempted numerous restarts that would seem to catch but soon stall out. Eventually got the vehicle to run enough to limp off the highway. Very low power. Parked for 20 min and restarted with no apparent issue. Engine light was present since first stall. Drove about 1 mile and symptoms returned. Low power and stalled out. Vehicle restarted and i again limped off highway. Eventually got to exit and off into a parking lot. Numerous stalls and never any real power. Waited for a tow from there and vehicle restarted with no issues when driving it onto the tow trailer. Fuel pressures were normal, and codes were P06A7, P0106 and P0236 were present and permanent which was also a new development. Permanent codes have been elusive. A previous recall on 2013-2014 Escapes fits this issue exactly. After numerous hours of research, i am convinced this is the same issue involved in the previous Ford tsb 13-12-12 and the previous tsb 13-7-5. I was in great danger when this vehicle stalled on the highway without warning. Rush hour traffic on 70 plus mph road with almost no shoulder. Because of this and the disabling of the airbags when this failure occurs along with the seat belt actuators, i think it's reasonable to assume this is a safety issue. I'm confident this issue can be replicated.

I'm having issues with a P0106 code. It continuously comes off and on. I have had the manifold absolute pressure sensor replaced, i have had the intake cleaned and relatable parts. The check engine light will come on at random times, and will just go away on it's own. I have read that multiple people have had to update the ecm which has then fixed the issue. I don't believe this should be an expense to the owner of the vehicle for an update that should have been done in the first place.

2013 FORD ESCAPE with 6500.0 miles

Starting around 6,500mi, Escape would not start without a jump start. After several days of calling tow trucks for these jumps, took it into Ford dealership. They swapped battery and said that's all it needed. After a week, Escape engine cut out at while stopped at red signal light. Engine warning lights for oil and battery came on, and nothing else. Pushed car to side of road and after waiting for tow for 20 minutes, i tried to start engine again and everything came back on as if nothing had happened. After two days of "all systems normal," i went to start the engine and it began to shake violently and a "engine malfunction-service immediately" warning came up on the dash. I tried to pull car out of parking spot and it had almost no power. Barely putted along despite my really giving it the gas. Parked and had it brought to Ford dealership again. On arrival they pulled a code P0106 off reader. It's been there for 10 days and they say they can not reproduce issue, and have made no repairs. Still waiting for news.

2013 FORD ESCAPE

For the past 2 years car is having identical issues with Ford recall 14s17 in a 2013 Ford Escape. Getting error code P0106 and have had maf sensor replaced twice. Ford customer service indicated that this Escape was not covered under 14s17 since it was manufactured in 2013 after the effected dates in the recall.

My vehicle stalls and chugs. This happens while i'm driving and stationary.Ford did have a recall for a map sensor manifold issue back in october of 2014 for Ford Escapes with this description . The code is P0106 . I am struggling to get help for any dealer because there is no longer an open recall for this issue. I could be driving and my car shuts off. This is a nightmare.

2013 FORD ESCAPE with 128000. miles

Experiencing the same exact issues as nhtsa campaign number: 15v813000. Ford keeps looking into this problem but say nothing is wrong with the car. Car stalled several times in live traffic and almost caused a crash. Engine shuts off unexpectedly when driving. The map sensor finally threw a code P0106 and after replacement it ran fine for a day and stalled again which points to the harness. The incidents where it almost caused a crash where when i was on i75 and the car in front of me slowed down, i pressed the breaks and my car lost complete engine power which was very scary.

2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT

Car would make whirling sounds intermittently, difficulty going up hill, rough idle sometimes, car shut off while driving, car shut off while idling at a light, car had difficulty starting or would start then shake and let out loud and hard bursts of gas from exhaust and cut off, car will start up then lose power, sometimes will start back up. One time it took 3 tries and would not start. Had at vw dealer multiple times since jam 2017 till now. Happened again today after i got gas, shut off then took a while to gain power and epc and check engine light were on then disappeared. Every other time the wngine light would disappear. The last time in march they had the car 10 or so day. Two days later it idled rough. They were busy to check the car now this. Jan 2017 check engine light they said fault P0106/P2188- did software update and advises faults may come back. Feb 2017 engine light they said same faults and manifold pressure sensor failed. Even after free repair due to being covered under warranty, the new pcv valve and cover are leaking again. Engine idles roughly, both in park and in drive. This is a known issue with Chevrolet Cruze, but my vin is not part of the recall. Main error code P0171- bank 1 system too lean- is being picked up (check engine light came on yesterday morning (april 10, 2018)), along with error codes: P0106, P015B, P0236, P0237, P1101, P112D.

Purchased 2012 vw Beetle in 2014 used and service engine light came on 6shortly after. Dealer replaced secondary air injector sensor under warranty. Light came back on and was told it was a secondary air injector valve that was bad but would not cover due to being out of warranty even though issue occurred while under warranty and was not corrected. Local mechanic cleaned valve and checked system which worked for 6 months. Continued to fail safety inspection for a P0491 secondary air injector system. Has failed 2016 & 2017 for same code. Have had over $700 worth of work to correct with no fix. 2017 had a P0106 code that cleared but has come back again. Currently still producing both codes for 2018 and not passing safety inspection.

2012 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 12000.0 miles

My 2012 Jetta with dsg automatic 6 speed transmission would have an issue of every 30-50 miles, the service wrench would pop on + cel at times. The code came up P0106. After checking with dealer, they cleared code under warranty many times and could not come up with the solution. After warranty went this was happening frequently. Took it into the dealer +-7 times til we, sort of, found the issue at hand. The main issue is when the wrench/cel would pop up, the transmission would start to shift extremely rough up and down until it simply, went away..... Very confusing and frustrating to say the least. Also, when on, i would get a rich smell of fuel. Was told by dealer/vw that when this combo occurs, the engine reads a different fuel load to compensate for the "air" getting in. This happened for +-20,000 miles. Grateful car is running great now..... They cleaned the throttle body a few times + tightened intake manifold to factory specs, and the issue still came back after +-400 miles. Finally, they did a "wiggle test" on the map sensor. Then recommended i replace the map sensor. After reading online with people in similar issues, it appears you simply need to keep this sensor clean. After that diagnostic, they wanted to charge +-$125 to replace the sensor. I refuted. Since they did the test back in early september, i have had 0 issues with the car. I have contacted my local vw rep and the dealer to follow-up monthly. Where the sensor is located, it is susceptible to getting dirty. Which will then throw off the engine codes for no reason. I am thankful this is solved, for now. I have read many "P0106"ers with the same issue with Jetta's n passat's from 2010-2013 with the dsg auto transmission.

Issue has occurred multiple times, under different conditions. Without warning, the vehicle loses acceleration and the wrench icon and awd errors display. The throttle becomes unresponsive, but all other systems remain functioning. If you leave it in gear without the brakes engaged, it will move at idle speed on flat ground, but is unable to navigate inclines. When slowing to a stop, the whole vehicle shudders. Stopping and restarting normally returns the vehicle to normal operation. However, on october 25, it failed to start and had to be towed to the dealer. There is no external indication of this sudden loss of power and it creates a very dangerous situation because it happens without warning and you are only able to steer and brake to control the vehicle. Our 2012 Explorer is currently at the dealership, who has indicated that the problem is the electronic throttle body (etb) and purge valve. Ford is aware that there is an issue with etbs with other models, reference nhtsa action # pe13003, and Explorers, reference nhtsa #10054323 and 10053276, Ford tsb # tsb-13-9-8 and tsb-13-5-29. While driving at 65 mph on ny state thruway, with cruise control on, towing a trailer with one motorcycle, vehicle was in tow/haul mode. It was moderate rain. The truck shuddered, lost power momentarily, flashed several error messages on the information display, and resumed driving but now the vehicle would not accelerate over 60mph. Upon pulling off the road into a service area, i shut off the vehicle and restarted it. Errors were cleared. Resumed travel on the interstate. Went about 2-3 miles and it did it again. Limped 30 miles to next service area. Shut it off. Restarted. My aftermarket gauge cluster and code reader was showing errors P012B, P012D, P0106. Drove the remaining 200 miles at 55mph. Problem did not repeat.

I have a 2011 Jetta se 2.5l auto pzev and when i turned on the car outside from my house, the check engine light turned on with no reason. I passed the scanner and threw the code P0106. The car would drive well, but when i release the brake and press gas, the car wouldn't react right away, it would accelerate slowly and kick-in i second gear. Then the gears indicator (prnd123) disappears. I changed the map sensor and works good for 3 or 4 day. After this the problem returns. I saw a technical bulletin from Volkswagen company and this bulletin says that the car needs an update programming. I called to my concessionary and they says that i must to pay, first for the diagnosis, and second for this update. I have been investigating about this trouble and too many owners of Volkswagen vehicles presents this fault, including usa and mexico. I guess that Volkswagen must correct this problem with no charge. Attached the technical bulletin 2034012 from Volkswagen.

My husband and i are the owners of two 2011 Hyundai Sonatas. Our complaint is based on the fact that we feel that Hyundai has either purposely or in ignorance created an inherent defect in its battery system. Over the course of the past nine years, on a number of occasions, we have had to have our batteries changed or disconnected to repair something else. Each time this happens, when the battery is disconnected or replace by an auto shop other than Hyundai, the check engine light turns on and there is an warning that the map sensor needs to be replaced. There is not enough room to clearly explain the problem here. I have, therefore, attached a letter below. The consumer stated codes P0106/P0605/P2110 appeared.*js

2011 HYUNDAI SONATA with 120000. miles

Reconnecting the battery after servicing the car the vehicle gets a check engine light P0106 code (P0106 manifold absolute pressure/barometric pressure circuit range/performance). The engine runs normal. Driving the vehicle at highway speeds on cruise control at intermittent times i experience a cruise control disconnect and total loss of throttle while engine is still running. I have to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and turn the vehicle off and restart to get throttle control back through the pedal. When that happens the vehicle also gets a P2110 (throttle actuator control system - forced limited rpm limp home mode) and P0605 code (P0605 = internal control module read memory (rom) error). I have reported this to Hyundai. They recommended i take it in for service. I reported it to the dealer. They could not duplicate or see history in the computer. This has happened several times over the years. The car loses all throttle control and i am forced to coast to the shoulder.

2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 66000.0 miles

I was stopped at a stop sign to turn and when i accelerated a quick flash of the service ecm message came on and then disappeared, but the car stalled out in the middle of the intersection. When i tried to restart the car, it would turnover, run for 2 seconds and then die. I had the car towed to my house, where we charged the battery and took it over to autozone to have the electronics scanned, where it showed 3 codes: U0121, P0106, P0621. They scanned the battery and alternator, and all came up with a clean bill of health (so to speak). Upon reading online it looks like this was an issue in Malibu's 2004-2009 (which was recalled), and i believe they never fixed the issue and now 2010's may be affected. My worry is that this will happen again and it will be at a busier intersection or worse yet, on the highway.

2010 FORD EXPLORER with 90000.0 miles

Check engine light came on and the code was P0106 and P0401. I discovered plastic tubing failed by breaking (disintegrating really), all in the vicinity of a part that i suspect controls those functions. The part is a harness with 4 of these plastic tubes that connect to various places. The fact that they are disintegrating indicates the wrong materials are used. Ford motor company should have this issue addressed as a recall for defective materials. I have samples of the tubing that survived.

I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle with 52,000 miles on it. Last summer, it began lurching when stopped or moving slowly. It continued to get worse until last week when it began doing it so badly, the vehicle just died. When it was restarted, the check engine light was on and the vehicle was running very rough. I drove to autozone and the two engine codes were P0106 and P0109. They erased them and following the Ford Freestyle forums, i purchased some throttle-body cleaner. Once home, i cleaned the throttle body and it seems to have helped the issue, although it still is surging some. It's crystal clear that Ford needs to honor this issue as a recall and not expect me to pay $700 at the dealer to have it fixed.

2006 chevy Malibu lt, 2.2 is stalling, started mid aug 2010. It happens mostly when the rpms go between .5 to 1. I am not sure how many times it has stalled but i would estimate it has happened about 15-25 times. I have to hold the break down firmly while gently accelerating to keep the car on. The stalling occurs while im stopped or when i'm in motion, which may cause an accident on the road or highway. I tried changing the spark plugs & that didn't work. The check engine light had been on before it started stalling, i finally got it checked and codes P0106 and P0121 came up. Took to a mechanic today and suggested i report this here first after asking me if i thought it was a safety hazard for the highway, when my car stalls.
