2017 KIA SORENTO with 62334.0 miles

1 week after purchasing my 2017 Kia Sorento fe awd from rochester tom kadlec Kia in august 2019, i went to use my cruise control and it wouldn't set. "cruise" came on, but could not be set to my speed. Issue happened around 1-2 times a week on 45 mile commute on highway. Later on about a month later, i set my cruise control and once set, the speed began to climb. Starting at 65, and going up to 70 before i had to use my brakes to turn cruise control off as the buttons didn't work. On dec 16th, my car showed a check engine light then stalled after putting it into drive from reverse. I turned the car off, then back on and drove "normally". Took it into the shop same day for an oil change and they read the codes, "P2106, P2110, p063 limp mode and throttle actuator control range" they also noted my vehicle has a timing cover gasket and oil pan gasket leak, and my battery tested at 12.39volts and 339cca out of 640cca. Recommended battery replacement. My shop asked me to check the dealership for my warranty, and it's 5 years or 60,000 miles. I came into the shop at 62,334 miles. The Kia dealership refused to look into the issue unless i paid 160 for their own inspection, and even then, it'd be highly unlikely they would do any goodwill repair. Replaced battery 12/26/19 after multiple failures and jumps to start, and finally wouldn't take a charge or jump.

2013 KIA SORENTO with 13500.0 miles

We bought the vehicle new from Kia dealer with 8000 mile in march 2013 and we did all the maintenance as prescribed . V6 3.6l 4x4 after 14 months while driving approximately at 20 - 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate. After turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine the vehicle operated as normal. This happened 2 times in 4 days in same circumstances. The mil came on friday 20 june and stay on until saturday 21 june. It happened again on sunday 22 june at almost the same speed. We take it at one close shop and they read the codes P2110; P2106; P0638 which are power train related and throttle actuator control range /performance. They didnt erase the codes. I dont know the reason but on monday 23 june the mil went off again. The car is functioning normal now but i dont know what to do i wonder if the codes are stored in the ecm. This seem to be verry dangerous it can happen anywhere and anytime and i wonder why Kia didn't make a recall cause i see a lot a complaints as mine. I will take it to the dealer and keep you informed, i hope they will fix it under waranty. Anyway this will be my last Kia!!!

2012 HYUNDAI SANTA FE with 13400.0 miles

1) historical details / event: when i bought the car (august, 2012) i noticed the occasional sticking of the throttle and when pressing the break the car would seem to want to accelerate - this would happen once every three months: the dealer said they couldn't find anything. 2) recent event: on 07/07 while driving at 45mph the car immediately started slowing down to less then 10mph and the check-engine-light came on. After pulling over and sitting for a while the car would go up to 30mph - 40mph: over that and it would occur again. Per the dealer - drove it to them. On the way - this slow down occurred multiple times between 30-40mph, once while slowing / breaking - the car immediately accelerated (rpm over 2500) and i almost had a major accident. Dealer diagnosed it as a known issue related to tsb: 13 fl 002 (throttle body bore carbon fouling / P2106/P2110 limphome mode / P0638 throttle actuator control range and that the break issue was due to excessive break booster air causing the throttle assembly to lock open. Dealer claimed issue was known but not seen often and never repeated. Had car all day to fix (finished: 07/08). Asked dealer about other tsbs in the database and was told none of them applied or were applicable. 3) recent event: on 07/08 after leaving the dealer, got 9 miles of driving when it occurred again after making a 25mph right turn and accelerating to 40mph [almost was read-ended by a truck]. Dealer now closed for the evening. Will be contacting dealer first thing on 07/09 and demanding fix and/or replacement - as this is now multiple times with the dealer denying the severity of this.

Car was not driven for 7 days. First day, on a way to work, check engine light went on. On a way home, at green traffic light, i was making left turn, acceleration pedal was pressed and car accelerated as intended but after half a second acceleration pedal stopped working and car slowly moved forward only by inertia. Acceleration pedal was non functional, and engine was running at idle. I was able to safely stop the vehicle on a stop lane, past intersection, with engine still running and non-functional acceleration pedal. Then, i shut off the engine and started it again. Acceleration pedal was working without problem. Mil codes were: P2135 P0221, P2106, P0121 and P2110. Took it to the Hyundai dealership in new hudson, mi where some incompetent mechanic could not even diagnose what was the cause blaming the car battery. Car battery is holding charge, currently at 12.4v and alterantor is charging battery with 14.2-14.4v. Car starts without any problem and hesitation. There were no cars coming from opposite direction at intersection so we were not in imminent danger when acceleration pedal lost control.

All events occurred while vehicle was stationary.Began to have a intermittent no start condition around the third week of january 2016. Theta 2.4 engine #165130 would not turn over. A jump start with 2nd vehicle battery supply and jumper cables were needed for engine to run.Tested the battery voltage output on Santa Fe with engine cold 12.65 and engine running 13.96 to 14.02 range all starting and charging components were operating in normal conditions and no check engine or battery indicators illuminating. No signs of engine malfunction was evident. On 01/29/2016 after having two more no starts went ahead and replaced the battery with brand new one. Engine would crank but not start.Tested voltage on battery, alternator, starter, ignition and fuel pump relays. Had spark on all coils and fuel. Air filter was new. Felt confident there was no need to check compression as there were no mechanical signs present. At certain times some engine components due wear out so i had a mechanic inspect the engine and asked him to replace the crankshaft sensor. Engine would not turnover after several attempts and he could not determine the cause. On 01/30/2016 connected my obd2 and got a total of 11 codes, P0445,261,267,270,264,448. Five out of first eleven were displayed twice except P0448.I had the car towed to a Hyundai authorized service dept on 02/02/2016 the service adviser at frank Hyundai advised me his mechanic performed a compression and leak down test and informed me engine had low compression in 3 out of 4 cylinders with active codes P0223 P0445 and P2106.One cylinders was said to be blowing air up towards valve cover.I was told they suspected piston rings or cylinder head was cause of engine failure.Had car towed home. After finding blown fuse i was able to start car but shut it down immediately from loud noise coming from valve train rotating assembly.Unknown symptoms.

Extreme fire hazard warning - Hyundai - insufficient wiring insulation. 2009 Azera stalled and died going 45 mph during light rain 12/9/19. Tow truck driver tested battery and found low alternator output. Replaced alternator and valve cover gasket where oil was leaking onto alternator. Once repaired, continued to get P0108 error code and stalling after 20 min of run. Removed paint and added electrical gel to all main ground wire to body/frame points (all were painted, unsure how it was grounded in first place). Problem persisted with new codes now P2106, P1295, P0122, P0222, P0123, P0108, P2173, P161B. Limped car to local shop and called Hyundai, who assigned case #16592407. Shop said map sensor was bad, replaced with new sensor. Problem persisted with P0108 code in driveway idling. Did vacuum check on tubing but found bare wires on wiring run that holds oil pressure, map sensor, engine temp sensor and others on 1/1/20. Under fabric wrap around wire bundles, all wiring insulation has dissentigrated causing short circuits and bad map sensor voltage. All wiring is bad that runs across engine top has bad insulation almost to alternator. Extreme fire hazard. Attempting to contact dealer. Insulation on wires cannot handle engine temps and disintegrates leaving bare wires. 2009 Hyundai Azera with 3.3 l v6, 123,000 miles.

Shortly after buying suv in 2009 we experienced "querky" stuff like doors relocking, dome light s coming on, back hatch unlocking all this happening on their own!! I kept telling the dealership at oil changes! They kept ignoring it all! Nov 1, 2009 Kia electric system service bulletin #282603 (ts b-044) issued. September the check engine and esc off lights started coming on together, suv immediately decends to 15-20 mph! You can't give it gas, only rpms rise high! Gas is eaten up! Coast to side, sit a few to 20 minutes. Maybe both or esc off light(s) go out and you proceed. Have noticed a buck feeling before light(s) are coming on at times. Check engine lights may stay on for a while or not. Habitually erratic when lights come on, can be every mile to several miles! Last week suv with out these lights started running real rough at idle and driving. To the point of reving over 2000 rpms but acted like being held back! I have been reluctant to drive it much in fear of the advancing issues and hurting the power train! At idle range is 300 ' 1,800+ rpms, mechanic witnessed the varying rpms when code 1611 (time out:ecm, pcm, tcm issue) came up on snap-on's code reader. Suv has baby miles of 29,884 now 30,004 today. All suv's on forums are over 50,000 miles! ~ low idle Kia calls for tps replacement ~ september 7, 2011. My suv throws P1295/P2135/P2106 codes listed in this! Calls for the ecm be reprogramed using the gds (global diagnostic system). Ref: 044 bulletin. Driving you can feel the engine slow down to almost stalling but catches itself and keeps running. 1st time this happened i was doing 55mph and found i was slowing real fast with traffic coming up behind me. I now have to ride with 4 way flashers to be safe! Chk eng on when key is turned on at times now. Towed 1x, drive a mile sit minutes repeat'd 8x. Issues are progressing!

On 5/15/13 i had my stop lamp switch replaced per recall campaign 110. The following day, i noticed cold engine fluctuation and surging. This has happened regularly, with the engine sometimes fluctuating up to nearly 2000rpm while the car is in park. Gradually, the issue progressed to difficulty accelerating and a shaking/hesitation feeling while downshifting that feels like the engine is going to stall out, but it does not. This began 6/20/13. Also on 6/20/13 my check engine dash light came on, and the "esc off" light was illuminated, even though i had not shut the esc off. Additionally, the awd system light was flashing. Upon restart, only the check engine light remained on. I brought my vehicle to grismer for diagnostics. They found error codes: C1513, C1611, P1295, P2106, and P2135. I revisited my local Hyundai dealer (voss Hyundai) and they state that they believe the stop lamp switch is working properly and that the throttle positioning sensor needs to be replaced. They refused to cover this cost due to being outside of the warranty. I was told by grismer that the tps issue is directly related to the stop lamp switch issue. I believe that what i am experiencing also relates directly to service bulletin #tsb-09-fl-003-1.

While driving, the check engine and esc lights illuminated. Vehicle had sudden loss of acceleration and would not go beyond 40mph. Speed decreased below 40mph on hills. Vehicle continued to have problems even after restarting. A check of the odb-ii codes gave P2138, P2127 and P2106. All of the codes reflect a malfunction in the accelerator control system. Awaiting repairs by local Kia dealer.

2008 KIA SORENTO with 39790.0 miles

Two days ago the check engine light illuminated (and stayed on) with intermittent electronic stability control off light illuminated; vehicle acceleration became sluggish and sometimes unresponsive. Vehicle codes using obdii pocketscan showed active and stored codes of P2138 (accelerator), P2127 (accelerator) and P2106 (limp mode). I made an appointment to take it to the dealership on 09/25/13. On the day of appointment the check engine light was not illuminated, but the dealership found stored codes in the computer of P2138, P2127 and P2106. The dealership refused to fix the vehicle even though it was still under warranty because there was not an active code (check engine light) on at the time of the appointment and the part was functioning properly for the time being. When asked if it was their policy or Kia motors policy not to replace components that were failing, they stated it was Kia motors policy. This is the second time the accelerator assembly has failed in this vehicle. The last failure was 08/23/12 at 27,545 miles. A vast majority of the complaints with nhtsa for this make, model and year vehicle involve these codes and this component. A serious accident, or loss of life should never be the determining factor when making a decision that a manufacturer should take action to correct a faulty component; by then it is much too late. *js

2008 KIA SEDONA with 13000.0 miles

Initial occurrence was on november 20, 2008 when our 2008 Sedona was less than seven months old and with only 13000 kilometers on it. Vehicle stalled when trying to start up after a four way stop. Thought some type of fluke? No further occurrences for two to three hundred kilometers until november 23, 2008 when stalled while turning at a busy intersection. Stalled again after put in park and restarted. Took to dealership where serviced on november 24, 2008 -correction: "scan code P2106/P1295/P0638 and po236 reset and re-program - road test all ok" less than 24 hours later, during evening rush hour the Sedona stalled again both starting up after having been stopped and then a short time later in the midst of driving at the posted speed limit. Kia of newmarket service was immediately contacted and we were advised to drive the vehicle over, if possible. The Sedona was returned to the dealership on tuesday november 25, 2008. On wednesday, november 26, 2008 Kia was asked for and was granted permission to drive our Sedona home that evening in an effort to experience the stalling problem firsthand. We were subsequently advised that the vehicle stalled for the advisor five different times. On or about december 4, 2008 the main computer was reportedly replaced with a brand new main computer taken from a 2009 Sedona on the lot in an effort to resolve the problem. The service advisor once again took our Sedona home and back and it was reportedly running "beautifully" following the replacement of the main computer. On friday, december 5, 2008 the Sedona was picked up - the paperwork was not signed as they wanted to leave it open until follow up was made. Again less than 24 hours later after picking up the Sedona the Sedona stalled while we were driving on a busy street with six people in the van. Apparently they have at the direction of Kia canada tried several codes since then. Problem has still not been diagnosed and van still at Kia over one month later!

At 65 mph on a busy freeway -without any warning, engine died to idle speed and no power. Try crossing 3 lanes of fast traffic with no power and rapid deceleration ! Fortunately no impacts but some terrible near misses. The check engine light illuminated . The code was P2135 -throttle position switch failed. That caused P2106 &P1295 "limp home mode"-which should be changed to " killed in action(Kia) while limping mode". If you check the internet, this is a well known problem across a range of Kia and hyundai vehicles. There are tsb's for it.Just search "2135 Kia" or P2135 hyundai". The retail price for the tsb repair is only $165. It requires replacing the defective tps and a reflash of the ecm. It is free under warranty. Why not make this a recall? The defect is widespread, easy and cheap to repair and potentially deadly -why not a recall? Dealer was excellent .Fixed the problem -they were very familiar with the issue.

Exiting a strip center to cross 2 lanes of traffic and make a left to merge into traffic, i accelerated in a safe gap only to find my vehicle had almost no acceleration. I was nearly in a side impact collision if not for the excellent awareness and reaction of the others on the road. I pulled immediately into a parking lot to try to find out what had happen. At this time my check engine light and the esc off light were on. They were not went i started the trip from my house about 1 mile away. I shut the car off and restarted and the esc off light was no longer there, but the check engine was. The normal power had been restored back to my car. I drove to an auto parts shop and had them pull codes on the vehicle. It returned 2 codes: 1. P2138 (throttle/pedal position sensor/switch "d"/"e" voltage correlation, 2. P2106 (throttle actuator control system - forced limited power). I asked them to clear the codes and they did. My drive home triggered no lights. After a month the same issue happened and i cleared the codes once again. It now happens 6 months to year mostly when the temperature get really war (usually july). I got on the internet to research the issue and was amazed to find how many people were having the exact same issue. All were the same story of sudden and unexpected loss of power, both lights on, near accidents, fear for one's safety. Literally hundreds and hundreds. There were many posts of those that went to dealer or called Kia with either exorbitant repair costs, lack of concern, and no knowledge of the issue. For most, the problem was never completely solved with dealer repairs and intermittently happens. This is a dangerous problem and people will die, or most likely already have. Too many people with the same problem not to have a recall for Kia owners and their children's safety. Please help.

While driving the vehicle, you suddenly loose power. The esc off light and engine light come on. You are not able to accelerate. It's like the pedal is not there. You could be going 50 mph and then suddenly drop down to 20 to 30 mph without warning. There is a few codes that come up: P2106 throttle actuator control system-forced limited power P2138. Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch "d"/"e" voltage correlation. There are other codes that came up before and it also caused these issues. This happens while you are driving. Sometimes you can tell its going to turn on the esc light and engine light and going to loose power and sometimes it happens all of a sudden. When researching online about this problem, its a common problem with Kia especially the Sedonas.

Transmission upshifted and down shifted. Orb error codes where P2110, P2106, and P161B. No other codes where stored. It has happened twice in 6 months. After restarting engine check engine light was not on and the car ran normally.

2006 FORD FREESTYLE with 110000. miles

My complaint mirrors verbatim others related to the may 2011 investigation opened into the "lunging" at slow speeds for the 05-07 Ford Freestyle. The ac, hot temps, & lunging. One occurrence traveling 60mph & began to "stall out" & slow on major highway with three children in car. Any pressure on fuel pedal no result. Busy traffic, could only travel max 35-40mph. Put flashers on & struggled to make it to repair shop. Turned off ac in 100 degree heat to get any kind of response from engine. I was worried & feared for mine & my children's safety. Vehicle would barely accelerate thru intersection after stopping for red light. Finally made it to shop. Vehicle was placed on machine. Codes appeared: P061B alter fuel control module error, P2106 throttle actuator forced limited. Took vehicle to Ford house & explained issues as well as codes from previous shop. Was told would be $100 for Ford to hook up for a dx. If the codes i had were same, would cost est $800 to repair. As mom of 3 & who drives great distances for work, this repair asap. Have had many occasions if not had foot firmly on brake the vehicle would've caused a wreck at stop light, pulling into, out of parking lots, etc. Car literally drives itself in d/r at 10mph with no acceleration at all after placing in d/r. On 8-12-12 was in drive thru line & car lunged at high rate of speed forward after barely lifting foot off brake. Came mm from slamming into vehicle in front. Put car in p & the vehicle died. Wrench/engine light came on. Turned engine off, turned ac off & restarted the car. I can only imagine what would've happened if this had occurred at a stop light in a busy intersection? This issue is a fatality waiting to happen. This cannot be a fluke random issue if you have rec'd 238 prior complaints regarding the exact same issue. I urge nhtsa to place a recall, if for the only reason to save lives. updated 08-03-12 *bf updated 09/07/2012 *js
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,

2006 FORD FREESTYLE with 62000.0 miles

I was stopped and in a line of vehicles in a parking lot with my foot on the brake and the engine surged. Fortunately, i had my foot on the brake with sufficient pressure to keep the car from lunging forward. This occurred several times while in the parking lot with the engine going into (limp mode) forced limited power mode. I drove the car directly to the Ford dealer where the car was purchased. The mechanics did not detect any diagnostic trouble codes and sent me on my way. Since then there have been probably six (6) more events without the engine going into forced limited power mode. In all events the engines surges to approximately between 1500rpm and 1800rpm with the car in drive and the foot securely on the brake. The event generally lasts less than 5 seconds. All events occurred during summer months. Last event was this past wednesday when my son was driving the car. I witnessed the event as a passenger. The two codes that came up are P2106 and P061B. I purchased a tester to read the codes. Current mileage is 77995. Researching the potential cause of this problem led me to your site and prompted me to file a complaint.

Vehicle has been suffering from constant power loss with esc light illuminated. Now it suddenly accelerates with the light lightest touch on pedal, lurching as it accelerates. It happens especially often when engine is under stress, such as climbing up a hill. I was parking in garage when is rapidly accelerated and my side bumper in front grazed garage door sidewall. It has also happened in reverse with rear side bumper nicking same spot on garage. This vehicle is a safety nightmare. Fault codes P2135 and P2106 often appear.

As i began to back up i put foot on brake to let car go by when the car began to surge and my foot was no where near gas pedal. Then the car shut off by itself and check engine light came on. Later we were waiting in a line at a drive-thru as we waited in line i had car in drive but foot on brake. Then the car lunged forward and i could have hit the car in front of me. The car died again. This happened another time. I took it to auto part store to diagnose check engine light. It gave me code P2106 and which is throttle actuator control system-forced limited power.

The vehicle will lose power. The engine will continue running, but only at idol speed. This event can happen at any time. My wife was driving our Kia at the time this event happened. The check engine light and the esc off light came on and the van had no power. After shutting the van off and restarting she was able to drive home with only the check engine light on. I pulled the neg. Battery cable and reset the ecm. I drove the van for 200 miles without incident. The next morning the van started normally, but within a minute both lights were on and the engine would not respond to any throttle input. The codes pulled from the computer are P1295, P2106, and P2135. After looking on google, this is a chronic problem plaguing Kia and hyundai vehicles. According to what i've read, it can happen at any time, on any model year. Nobody has been able to isolate the cause, except to replace the ecm, and replace the throttle body. It is only a matter of time until this happens to somebody in heavy traffic at highway speed.

My 2006 Ford Freestyle has 74575 miles and has recently started this same surge that everyone else is complaining about..Once it starts to surge forward...Even with foot on the brake... It will often not pick up speed just limps along ..The limited power that everyone is complaining about. This only seems to happen with the a/c on and only if it is hot. Esp if sitting in traffic or idling. If foot is not firm on the brake it will jump ahead and sometimes the engine dies. Once it does that the wrench lights up on the dash and then there is very limited power..Pressing the gas doesn't speed up the motor..It goes, just not fast. Turn it off for 5 minutes and it starts up and runs fine (??) the check engine light came on last week for 2 days and i took it to advance auto and they gave me these codes :P2106 (limited forced power) & P061B (torque converter control module) guy there said it was probably transmission and would need to be rebuilt..It has the cvt transmission but the gas mileage has never been over 22 and usually is about 20. I read lots of folks get 26+ it shifts smoothly and i am driving it daily..But am fearful of running into someone.. If so many of us are having this issue why will Ford not do something about it???

My 2006 Ford Freestyle actually lunges and revs up when i first get into it and put it into reverse or forward. It has been happening regularly now for over 2 years and about 40,000 miles but this weekend was the final straw. I had to pick up a child and left my kids in the car for about 5 mins with the car running and when i went to leave the car lunged backwards and i almost hit a tree then it shut off. I put the car into park and restarted it and it lunged forwards after being put into drive then shut off again. I then restarted it but it would not run correctly.A wrench light also came on. It was clocking 3000 rpms at 40 mph and it seemed like it would not shift. I pulled over and let the car sit for about a minute and restarted it. It seemed to run okay after that but lunged again today.I pulled the codes which were po61b and P2106. This is a huge safety problem. I have almost hit people in parking lots, trees, my garage door, and my own kids...This has to be taken care of and i think Ford should do a recall!!

Each summer for the last few years when the temperatures reach over 100 degrees, we have a problem with the car surging while either parking or backing up. It seems to happen most often on short trips, usually when the air conditioner is still on high. The brakes will stop the car but you must keep your foot over the brakes even to back out of the driveway. This does not happen any other time of year. This year, 2011, the car sometimes stalls out when surging and now the check engine light has come on. The 2 codes that came up is P2106 throttle actuator control system forced limited & P061B internal control module torque calculation. The current mileage on the car is 34922.

I have experienced a surge where the car will move with your foot on or off the brake while sitting still. This problem occurs whenever i have the a/c on or when i am turning the steering wheel. The problem is more serious when i am backing into my garage and the car surges backward which almost causes me to hit the back wall of my garage. The most serious incident occurred when the car started surging while i was backing up at work and the car hit the building. There was minor damage but could have been serious if my foot was not already covering the brake. I called the dealership and took the car in. They diagnosed the car had a bad mass air flow sensor with a code of (P061B) and (P2106) they also diagnosed that the throttle body was extremely carboned up and suggested the throttle butterfly was not moving freely due to the carbon. I paid to have it cleaned and they suggested that the throttle body may need replacement in the future.

I went to pull back on the interstate and had no power had my foot to the floor and could barely get to 30 mph. I am an automotive tech took the car to work and pulled the codes po61b internal control torque calculation and P2106 throttle control system. After researching the codes i found that alot of people have experienced the same problem with the same codes and had to replace the throttle body. I am replacing the throttle body but realize this is a common and dangerous problem that Ford is not taking care of or even acknowledging there is a problem. Knowing that the throttle bodies were on back order not long ago means to me they are in big demand so there must be a problem.

I was in the far left lane, and had to "coast" with my hazard lights on so i could turn the car off while in park on the shoulder. I restarted the car and it went away. Thankfully traffic was light! Earlier in the week this same thinghappened on my way to work i was on a 35 mph rd, and it did this, lost all use of the gas. Had to kill the car and restart but that time the check engine codes P2106 and P061B were drawn.(not the first time i've had these codes i know they mean throttle body'sbad) i've kept my obdii scanner in the car cuz these codes come up once a week at least. I just keep erasing them, restarting the car, and drives fine till it randomly goes off again. Thus was the first time it has happened to me on the highway. It scared me to death that i would have been rear ended on a highway. These should be recalled. Ford claims there's no safety issue. I barely avoided a potential fatal crash!

Ford Five Hundred lunged dramatically as i attempted to make a right turn from a stopped position. I immediately attempted to brake in order to slow the car down and yield to a pedestrian that had begun to cross the street. It took an extreme amount of pressure on the brake pedal in order to fight engine's acceleration and stop the car. Upon removing my foot from the brake, the car attempted to re-accelerate hard again, scaring the pedestrian enough that they waved me through and refused to cross until i passed by. The next day, while parking the car in a public garage, the car suddenly lurched forward very hard, again requiring maximum effort to prevent accelerating. This time i was headed into a concrete wall and stopped 2 inches short. For the first time, car entered failsafe mode and presented a check engine light (this light had not been previously presented). Dealer informs me computer reports codes of p610b and P2106. They want to replace the throttle body assembly and reprogram the pcm. While i had experienced the sudden acceleration issue intermittently over the years; i never got resolution (unable to recreate the problem) and had never received a check engine light with this code before. Investigating this very expensive repair has led me to discover that my experience is not unique and is a recurring issue for this vehicle. Further, the costly repair being recommended appears to be a stop-gap fix at best with no certainty of actually fixing the problem.

My 15 year old son and my life were placed in serious danger, by the gross negligence and deceptive business practices promoted by the Ford motor company, regarding scan code P2106. Since as early as february 26, 2013 Ford motor company was made aware of a dangerous defect concerning the mechanical and electrical components of their manufactured product released to the consumer public for profit. The vehicles are Ford trucks, manufactured from 2003 - 2008, with the v8 5.4 l engine. Public record reveals case no. 12-7222, jason schmidt, (plaintiff) vs. Ford motor company, (defendant) filed in the united states district court for the eastern district of pennsylvania, that Ford motor company is well aware of this issue. I believe that Ford motor company has made no attempts to inform Ford dealership owners, the Ford dealership managers or Ford service repair shop managers at the Ford dealerships and consumers who had already purchased their manufactured product of the issue. This issue is very dangerous, i was traveling 70 mph, with my son in the truck. Ford motor company has gone on record, via telephone conversation, explaining to me that; "Ford motor company has no control over how individual dealerships function or operate their establishment places of business, sorry. But i can take a complaint and be sure that the dealership receives it and provide you with a complaint number". Flammer Ford, spring hill, fl replaced a part and neglected to test drive the truck, released the vehicle to me and the part replaced was not what was wrong with the truck. I had my truck towed to autonation Ford in brooksville, fl for the same issue (P2106 code), they did the same thing, without replacing a thing. Only this time, while driving on a highway, my truck and the lost all power. My truck is back at autonation Ford in need of a new transmission.

2005 Ford Freestyle-drove into parking lot to pickup friends waiting. Put car in drive and car lunged forward with my foot on brake jumping several feet forward then engine stalled. Restarted while in middle of parking lot to oncoming traffic, and repeated above stalled and lunged, again and again after 5th time wrench light showed on dash display -started car and was able to do a tight u and repark vehicle. Wrench light remained on. Left car in lot after returned from dinner 2 hours later the wrench light was out and vehicle was taken home and appointment made at local mechanicl. Mechanic called with info that we needed to take to Ford repair with code #'s P061B & P2106. Ford presently is looking at vehicle and was told they reset the computer and we needed a tune up and as of this moment, they are having difficulty getting things back to us. Vehicle is a 2005 Ford Freestyle with 65,000 miles on it. This is a very scary dangerous thing that happen. Fortunately no cars in the lot were hit as the car lunged approximently 8-10 feet and i wasnt driving down the road. After looking on line last night i see the nhtsa is investigating after approximate 500 reports of varying years of this vehicle reported these same details. After reading them, i see my situation fits this to a tee! Some have replaced the throttle body for a cost of $1000 only to have it happen again after this repair. Several months ago we thought we may have gotten bad gasoline as the car was acting as though it was surging back and forth and would stall after starting and running rough for a few minutes. Put additive in the gas tank.I think Ford needs to investigate this is very dangerous, i no longer trust that i will be safe driving my car and i would not want any of my loved ones driving this vehicle and having this happen as they were in traffic, surely would be an accident and hopefully no ones lives will be taken because of this issue. I love my Ford Freestyle and never had complaint til now.

2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED with 136000. miles

We have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. Two days ago, the car failed to respond when the accelerator was pressed, even as it was pressed to the floor. The wrench light came on and the car started lunging and hesitating in addition to not accelerating properly. This occurred while driving through a very busy intersection; thankfully, i was able to move the car with my two small children out of traffic. A diagnostic computer provided two codes - P2106 and P061B. This is not the first time the car has lunged; it has been doing this for approximately 1.5 years. It has repeated this several times in both drive and reverse. In most instances, the air conditioner was running at the same time; however, the car has lunged when the a/c was not on. The lunging occurs when the car is being driven or sitting idle (i.E., stop lights, preparing to merge into traffic). I have been able to avoid accidents by keeping my foot firmly on the brake and by creating a large stopping distance cushion. We contacted the dealer and were told the entire throttle body would need replaced, at a cost of over $530.00. We are now reviewing our options.

While maneuvering my vehicle in a small space (forward, reverse, turning the wheel) the car began to surge and lunge (has occurred before, but mostly in reverse.) there was loud whining when i turned the steering wheel (that began recently and is almost constant.) the engine began to rev loudly, the car trying to lunge even with the brake applied. I reversed the car several feet from the road for fear it would lunge into traffic. The engine light (1st time ever) and the wrench symbol came on. Car went into limp mode, would not accelerate or exceed 30mph. (4th or 5th time this has happened in the one year i've owned the car.) diagnostic codes given by autozone on 9/19/12: P2106 (throttle actuator control system) & P061B (internal control module torque calculation performance error.) upon restart, engine light off. Dealer was contacted, and on 9/26/12 i drove the car to repair shop. They said smart junction box melted, must replace (electronic chassis control module )before doing repairs to the throttle body, cvt and suddenly non-working a/c (was working prior). No repairs have been made to the vehicle as the dealership (not Ford) refuses to honor the 36,000ml warranty with car. Recent problems prior to 9/26/12:*highway driving (55+mph/sometimes using cruise) car revs high rpms/will not accelerate at all/resumes later*sputters/stalls/loses power when slowing/stopping (it does restart) instrument panel brightens/dims*power locks malfunctioning (unlock function works with fob only) often while driving car locks/unlocks continuously/car randomly unlocks after being parked/turned off*cd player not working/displayed error code/2 month later working again*security system function inconsistent/disables randomly*gears not engaging right away, then a loud noise and car surges/lunges into drive/reverse* lunging (mostly reverse) and surge/lunge when in drive/brake applied.

2005 FORD FREESTYLE with 91000.0 miles

Vehicle has a sudden jump in acceleration even when driver is pressing on the brake pedal. It feels as if both the brake and accelerator are being pressed and the car is in conflict. Then the idle seems to drop either to a point of the vehicle dying or almost stalling. When restarted (sometimes this takes 2-3 tries to keep it running) or idle evens out the rpms and acceleration are delayed for some time. While pressing on the accelerator (even pushing almost to the floor) the vehicle will not increase in speed (in a normal response time-within 3-4 miles) and rpms top out at 2000. This happens at both low speeds and when attempting to achieve highway speeds. The trigger for this is typically a sharp turn. This also results in the check engine light coming on and giving diagnostic codes of P061B and P2106 which i have been unable to find a description of these codes. This has happened once every 4-6 weeks to begin with, but has increased in frequency to 3-4 times a month. I have not replaced the throttle body but that appears to be the common fix as reported by others experiencing this problem. After leaving the car sit for several hours and restarting the next day or 4-5 hours later the problem is not apparent until the next time.

I was backing up when the vehicle started to lurch and did not want to stop. I slammed on the breaks and saw that the cel and the wrench light was illuminated and the dash displayed fail safe mode. Continued to back up carefully and then when driving forward the car died. Turned key off waiting a few seconds started the car up again and went directly to an auto parts store so that i could read the stored code. Nothing showed up so i started the vehicle up put into reverse and the same thing happened again so i grabbed the code reader and it displayed P061B and P2106. After doing some investigation it looks as if the throttle body is needing to be replaced, and from all of the reading i have done i am not the only person having this issue. The issue is also compounded by the fact that this part is on a national back order from Ford. With all of that info, i find it hard to believe there has not been a recall to fix this widespread issue.

While on out of state vacation, our 2005 Ford Freestyle was idling in park with the ac running. When the car was placed in reverse, it accelerated quickly (unintended) with no input at the accelerator pedal. Once i stopped the car, the engine died. When it was restarted, it idled roughly for a minute and then ran ok. This type of unintended acceleration has randomly occurred 6 times total within a period of one week. The last time this occurred, the engine died once the vehicle was stopped. When it was restarted, the wrench light illuminated on the instrument panel. We drove the car to an autoparts store where the codes were read. The codes were P2106 & P061B. When the engine restarted, the wrench light on the instrument panel did not illuminate. We took the car to a local Ford dealer and described the events in detail. The Ford dealer performed a diagnostic test but no codes were detected. They said we needed a new throttle body. They came to this conclusion because of a technical services bulletin issued by Ford (tsb 06-21-1). The car has 79,857 miles so the dealer said it was out of warranty and that there were no recalls on the throttle body. I called Ford customer relationship center and was told the same thing. I expressed my concern about the safety issue of the unintended acceleration but their only comment was that is was my responsibility to pay for repairs. We have talked to another party who has had the same occurance with their Freestyle. Their throttle body was replaced under warranty but has once again started the unattended acceleration. I have also seen several posts on internet forums from people having the same problem. It appears that the replacement throttle bodies have the same defect and this is only a temporary fix. This problem could easily result in a crash or a pedestrian being struck. Our car has not been repaired. The defective throttle body is still intact on the car. The car is also very slow to decelerate.
