P0122

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

DTC P0122, sometimes indicated as P012200 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing throttle position sensor/switch a circuit low input.

The throttle position sensor (TPS) is responsible for reading the position of the throttle plate in the engine and sending this information to the engine control unit (ECU). This information is used to calculate the amount of fuel that is needed to be injected into the engine.
If the TPS reports a low throttle position, it may mean that the throttle plate is stuck open or that there is a problem with the TPS itself.
There are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot a P0122 code:
-Check the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion
-Check that the throttle plate is free to move
-Check the TPS for damage or corrosion
-Replace the TPS if necessary

2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 with 170000. miles

Update of nhtsa id number: 10809089. The stabilitrak and reduced engine power has increased to the following obd codes: P0010, P0122, P0202, P0233, P0335, P0455, P0340, P1682, P2089 as well. At this point there doesn't appear to be anything left on the vehicle that does work. Since the recalls and technical bulletins all appear to have been "completed" for this vehicle i guess i can look forward to repeating the same problematic repairs again and again for the remainder of the time that i own this vehicle which do not appear to have resolved but merely band aided away until they reappear. Even the drivers door switches all had to be replaced which tells me that this is related to an electrical problem and with so many complaints the matter had forced consumers to pay for repairs that were designed to fail without regard to the consumers safety nor financial burdens. It appears that the electrical issues which most are directly linked to the defective engine wiring harness and grounding issues as many technicians are reporting. At this point the truck needs to be totaled.

2009 HYUNDAI AZERA with 123000. miles

Extreme fire hazard warning - Hyundai - insufficient wiring insulation. 2009 Azera stalled and died going 45 mph during light rain 12/9/19. Tow truck driver tested battery and found low alternator output. Replaced alternator and valve cover gasket where oil was leaking onto alternator. Once repaired, continued to get P0108 error code and stalling after 20 min of run. Removed paint and added electrical gel to all main ground wire to body/frame points (all were painted, unsure how it was grounded in first place). Problem persisted with new codes now P2106, P1295, P0122, P0222, P0123, P0108, P2173, P161B. Limped car to local shop and called Hyundai, who assigned case #16592407. Shop said map sensor was bad, replaced with new sensor. Problem persisted with P0108 code in driveway idling. Did vacuum check on tubing but found bare wires on wiring run that holds oil pressure, map sensor, engine temp sensor and others on 1/1/20. Under fabric wrap around wire bundles, all wiring insulation has dissentigrated causing short circuits and bad map sensor voltage. All wiring is bad that runs across engine top has bad insulation almost to alternator. Extreme fire hazard. Attempting to contact dealer. Insulation on wires cannot handle engine temps and disintegrates leaving bare wires. 2009 Hyundai Azera with 3.3 l v6, 123,000 miles.

2004 HONDA CR-V with 77000.0 miles

Problem: sudden acceleration due to defective throttle body. The idle rpms are excessive upon startup and lead to sudden acceleration during braking to a stop. Background: malfunction lamp light was constantly turning on and off. Took the car to a Honda dealership and they only found the error code for the o2 sensor. Later took it to a local mechanic to fix the o2 sensor and they found a defective throttle body (error code P0122). There are several forums which address this exact issue on 2002-2004 Honda crv.

Honda, 2003 crv 4wd with 50,000 miles. Engine light came on. Diagnostics revealed P0122 throttle position switch low volt caused automatic transmission not to shift correctly, and will prevent acceleration to highway speed. Dealer quoted $950.00 for a replacement of throttle body with the throttle position switch. Discussions with other mechanics indicated other failures which may result in a Honda technical service bulletin (tsb) or recall. *ak

2002 NISSAN XTERRA with 147000. miles

When driving it is impossible to accelerate to normal speed even when pressing pedal to the floor, when i try to accelerate past 15 mph the engine revs really hard and jerks as if it is about to stall. I stalled out on the freeway without warning. It is hard to control speed when tryin to increase or decrease acceleration. The pedal feels inconsistent with the throttle and/ or rpm and is very hazardous. When trying to drive in low speeds in residential area or park the pedal arely moves and if given the slightest gas it will shut off e fine or take off and does not respond when you stop acceleration, or brake as it should. I have had power steering column fixed and air intake flow hose replaced, i keep getting error codes that come and go: P0122, P0128, and P0123. This seems to have similar recalls for othe model and year of Nissan, and when i inquire a out the issue to Nissan recall dept. They say the previous recall for gas response unit has been completed on this vehicle however, i cannot understand how that is possible with this issue i am having. I just bought this truck to drive my child to school and i'm afraid this will cause an a cident if not repaired soon however, i am certain this is a manufactur defect related to fuel line or throttle since the loss of acceleration is extremely noticeble to othe Nissan owners and i hope it is investigated as current recalls need to be expanded or investigated for the Nissan Xterra and possibly all Nissan vehicles with similar reported issues.
