Consumer Complaints for this DTC

2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 56000.0 miles

Engine power reduced. Engine power reduced. At first it seemed to happen when it was raining, but on dry days no problems. The engine light comes on, and disappears a few hours later. The dealership acts as if they can't tell you anything once the warning and engine light turn off. Lately it's been happening more frequently, so i was finally able to get it read. Error codes P2138 and P2127, both referencing throttle/pedal position sensor. Seems to be the only complaint i see on here. I also have read about law suits being filed regarding this as well.

2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU

While driving received recurring check engine light for P2127/P2138 code. Has been to quirk Chevrolet twice previously for same issue, drives fine for a week or two and light comes back. Third service appointment scheduled for monday 6/7/21. Recurring issue has made vehicle unusable while effected as car goes into limp mode while in motion limiting speeds to 25mph which was interesting to say the least as it happens while in motion.

2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 76473 miles

Cruising to work on i-93 in concord, nh traveling around 70 mph and it just lost power again!!! The "reduce engine power light" came on and vehicle would only go 25-30 mph. Thankfully there wasn't a vehicle behind me. I would have been "killed". Dropped vehicle to chevy dealer. They found P2127 for accelerator pedal position sensor failure, replaced gas pedal, cleared codes, road testes. Mileage 76,473. This is absolutely and totally unsafe and unacceptable. The vehicle is in the shop again for the fourth time, same issue. I will report each incident separately.

Cruising to work on i-93 in concord, nh traveling around 65 mph. I went out into the passing lane and the car totally lost power. The "reduce engine power light" came on and vehicle would only go 25-30 mph. Thankfully there wasn't a vehicle behind me. I would have been "killed". Dropped vehicle to chevy dealer. They found P2127 stored in system, reset ecm road tested and could not duplicate any faults. Mileage 75,698. This is absolutely and totally unsafe and unacceptable. The vehicle is in the shop again for the fourth time, same issue. I will report each incident separately.

2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 65000.0 miles

I purchased a 2017 chevy Malibu in april 2017 with 11 miles. In less than a month, the car started having issues. Took the vehicle into the dealership for inspection with the initial problem being the o2 sensor they updated the software and it was noted gm would monitor the concern and has been an ongoing issue since. The problems are as follows: dashboard goes blank while driving, codes: P0036, P0037, P0138, P0141, P2097 x3; P2122, P2127, P2138, accelerator pedal replaced x3 within a two month time frame with throttle harness being replaced on the third time, reduced engine power to 20 mph while driving, scanning noise coming from engine while vehicle is both in the on/off position; still have no explanation of the problem. The sound will sometimes occur before reduced engine power. While the car was under warranty, the issues were not addressed and were no longer gm's concern after the warranty expired. I filed a bbb claim to help resolve the ongoing problems with the vehicle. The bbb awarded the decision that gm is to repair any issues with the throttle, accelerator pedal, and emissions with four attempts to do so.

2015 DODGE DART with 74400.0 miles

Driving car normally. I parked in a parking lot and went into a store. When i came out to start the car it would not start. Charging indicator light and check engine light came on. Auto zone was in the plaza so i had the guy come out and do a diagnostic. Codes were P0123, P2122, P2127, P0222, U0401. When the guy went back into the store the car started. When i parked again 10 minutes later the check engine and charge light disappeared. Car ran fine for one day. About 33 hours after that incident i parked the car at a park for lunch from work. Took a walk and when i returned car never came on. Dash was flickering, all lights illuminated, mileage was flashing, gauges were flickering, car would not turn over. Acted as if battery was dead. Had to walk back to work and have car towed by aaa after work. Car has been sitting for 4 days and will not turn on. New messages came up: check electric braking system, check air bags, service tire pressure system and check anti lock brakes system. The tire light is on me because a sensor in the passenger tire broke when i got a flat hitting a curb while parking. I replaced the tire but not the sensor. Also now the uconnect and radio not coming on and battery light comes on, and when i made attempt to start a message came up stating engine warming up??? That was weird. This all happened all of a sudden within a two day span. Now i am stuck paying for a car i cant drive that is going crazy electronically.

2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO with 3000.0 miles

I have had a recurring problem with my new 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt (5.3 liter engine) going into "reduced engine power mode" which also results in the disabling of stability control and traction control. This is a dangerous condition in that it results in a loss of power while operating the vehicle upon the roadway. An authorized repair facility has replaced the number one and two throttle sensors, the accelerator pedal assembly, the throttle body, the alternator, the computer, and a large ground wire behind the dash. A gm engineer was flown in and now the repair center is replacing the engine wiring harness. The vehicle (which was purchased less than three months ago) has been out of service for approximately 30 days. In researching this matter i have found that chevy has had an ongoing problem with this in various vehicles in its product line since 2003. Although several service bulletins have been produced there does not seem to be a consensus regarding the cause of this problem. All of the parts associated with trouble codes C0242, P2127, and P2138 have been replaced without result. This condition could result in the affected vehicles being rearended, or, because of the loss of stability and traction control, result in a roll over. This needs to be addressed immediately. *js

2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 91000.0 miles

Owned my 2010 vw Jetta sport wagon tdi 6sp man since new. It has always had an interment cough & sputter that would happen at any speed or condition, but was very infrequent an non-repeatable. Now however, starting at around 85,000 miles, the cough and stall has become more frequent, causes the glow plug indicator light to flash and the vehicle loses power (goes into limp mode?). This used to all reset when turning off the key. The last time i brought it to the dealer, parr imports in bremerton wa, at 89,802 miles it had P0322 & P0651 fault codes. They suspected an intermittent crank sensor fault and wanted me to monitor. It has progressively gotten much worse, i have now lost power in heavy traffic and stalled in the parking lot pulling onto the road and have had to switch vehicles when it would not reset leaving the house. I was compelled to buy the torque application for my android phone to view and reset fault codes. I have not reset the ecu faults at least 4 maybe 6 times and now, at around 92,000 miles, it shows 5 codes and won't reset: P0322: ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit no signal, P2127: throttle/pedal position sensor/switch e circuit low input, P0193: fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input, P0651: unknown code - more information may be available on the web, P0300: random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. My internet research suggest the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) may be an issue with vw blaming it on gasoline contamination, however i have records and receipts confirming i always fuel with diesel from a major distributor.

2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA with 126000. miles

I cranked my 2009 Chevrolet Impala leaving a nearby gas station and the message service traction control flashed, then engine power reduced, and the check engine light came on. My car drove sluggish home at a very slow speed. Luckily i was only about 5 minutes from home. The next morning no message was displayed and the check engine light went off. I took it to advance auto parts and the code P2127 was displayed twice - throttle pedal position sensor. I see most of these complaints are similar to mine i just happen not to be on the highway. Is gm investigating this because this is serious with multiple occurrences?

Motorcycle has set codes from the day i picked it up from dealer. Sets twist grip codes P2127 & 2138. Would clear codes and they would return every few rides for the first 500 miles and then the bike started accelerating on it's own in any gear or speed. The local dealer was not able or willing to look at it in a timely manner. Checked out all connections for the throttle sensor my self. Didn't find any obvious problems. Applied computer connection stabalent to the ecm connector and problem was gone for 1000 miles. Bike started accelerating by it's self again and then set the check eng. Light. Sometimes a slight aceleration and other times it would accell hard. Was 55 miles from home this last time. The local dealer closed so am now taking it 25 miles to the dealer.

I was driving and my car started to reduce speed, hesitate, and jerk when put my foot on the gas at a light to pull off or even with my foot on the gas pedal driving. My car couldn't pick up speed past 25 miles and sometime less. A message came up on my dash board stated flashing reduce engine speed. I was near auto zone when it happened so i asked to have a dianostic completed and it stated throttle/ pedal position sensor/ switch "e" circuit low input meaning code P2127.

2008 KIA SORENTO with 39790.0 miles

Two days ago the check engine light illuminated (and stayed on) with intermittent electronic stability control off light illuminated; vehicle acceleration became sluggish and sometimes unresponsive. Vehicle codes using obdii pocketscan showed active and stored codes of P2138 (accelerator), P2127 (accelerator) and P2106 (limp mode). I made an appointment to take it to the dealership on 09/25/13. On the day of appointment the check engine light was not illuminated, but the dealership found stored codes in the computer of P2138, P2127 and P2106. The dealership refused to fix the vehicle even though it was still under warranty because there was not an active code (check engine light) on at the time of the appointment and the part was functioning properly for the time being. When asked if it was their policy or Kia motors policy not to replace components that were failing, they stated it was Kia motors policy. This is the second time the accelerator assembly has failed in this vehicle. The last failure was 08/23/12 at 27,545 miles. A vast majority of the complaints with nhtsa for this make, model and year vehicle involve these codes and this component. A serious accident, or loss of life should never be the determining factor when making a decision that a manufacturer should take action to correct a faulty component; by then it is much too late. *js

While driving, the check engine and esc lights illuminated. Vehicle had sudden loss of acceleration and would not go beyond 40mph. Speed decreased below 40mph on hills. Vehicle continued to have problems even after restarting. A check of the odb-ii codes gave P2138, P2127 and P2106. All of the codes reflect a malfunction in the accelerator control system. Awaiting repairs by local Kia dealer.
