O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 1 Sensor 1

DTC P2196, sometimes indicated as P219600 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a manufacturer-specific fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing o2 sensor signal stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1.

The code means that the O2 sensor is seeing more fuel than air. This could be caused by a vacuum leak, a dirty air filter, or a problem with the engine.

2016 FORD EDGE with 39500.0 miles

The car has had problems with stalling for several months, when in motion both at low speeds and up to 40 mph, as well as at idle. Each time the check engine light has illuminated. It has given codes P2196 and P1450. We took it to the dealer for diagnosis, and they said it needs the fuel vapor canister purge valve replaced. I noticed that Ford issued a safety recall for the focus, 18s32, for a faulty vapor canister purge valve, and have found much evidence on the internet that this is a common problem across Ford product lines. This is not covered under either the emissions or the powertrain warranty.

No power when using accelerator, engine off then on clears issue. Read P2196 code, cleaned maf sensor, but stalling returned. Random, not regular failure, so not able to recreate on demand. No fault code logged most recent incident. Has occurred 4 times over last month

Filled up car w/ gas, car sputtered like it was not getting gas. Car shut off but power stayed on. Tried to start car again, & it sputtered again. I then pushed on accelerator to give gas, and car sputtered as i let off, then died, but still had power. Started car for 3rd time, and it continued to sputter, i pushed on accelerator, and put in drive, and as i drove about 20 meters, the car seemed to still sputter. Once i continued to drive, and get up to 30 to 40 mph, the car ran fine. Car started fine the next few hours, but then in the evening it did it again. I had to put hazards on due to being on a main road and the car would not acellerate and started sputtering again. My check engine light also has came on during this process. I have taken into auto shop and it reads that fuel pressure sensor needs replaced: code P0087 fuel rail/system pressure - too low P2196 02 sensor signal stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1 P1450 unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum. With the vehicle being well maintained and being less than 5 years old, i believe this should be taken in consideration due to being very unsafe to drive due to not knowing when the sputtering of the car will happen.

2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT with 49292.0 miles

Took our 2014 Passat tdi in for a check engine light on 7/18/16 after testing a fault code of P2196 indicated an 02 sensor was faulty. Negotiated to $300 to repair/replace unit. Picked up vehicle on 7/21/16 after repair was made. On 8/3/16 check engine light again came on. Returned to dealer and they indicate that the adblue heater element was faulty. Recommend replacing at a cost of close to $1,000.00. Since this is part of the emissions issue we feel that this should be covered under any and all warranty. The vehicle has 48,875 miles on it and is only 2 1/2 years old.

I was fortunate to be able to reach the roadside safely and i was able to bring the car to a halt on the roadside. 2013 FORD EDGE with 90000 miles

The engine light is on in my car. I took it to a repair shop and they said it had the codes of P2196 and P2198 a h02s heated oxygen sensor is malfuntioning. When the rep pulled up the codes he informed me they had thousands of my same vehicle with the same problem. I contacted Ford warranty and they said it was not covered. This is horrible for Ford to know this is a defect on their vehicle and not be responsible for fixing it. So i would like to launch this formal complaint. I will never buy another Ford vehicle again. The aip has gone out in my vehicle and i have had other issues that the Ford warranty has said did not apply. The vehicle was in motion when the light came on.

Oxygen sensor (front) replaced was replaced by vw when i complained it should not have failed. The emission system is in question since the oxygen sensor is running rich. This year model should be added to recall for pollution system not function correctly. This model is diesel. Tdi

Vehicle has been stalling daily since july 2013. Vehicle when in for service 4-30-14 do to drivers concern of vehicle crashing at freeway and surface street speeds. On 4-29-14 the vehicle stalled (5) times and seems to stall during throttle changes from closed to traffic flow speeds. The "check engine light" and "fill cap" light were on. Dealer pulled codes P144A, P1450 and P2196 and replaced the purgevalve (9u5z-9c915-h). This is a major safety concern along with the vehicle exceeding emission.
