• Recall 122760 [USA]: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 ford escape vehicles manufactured february 26, 2009, to april 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 mercury mariner vehicles manufactured february 25, 2009, to december 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0l engine, the fuel delivery module (fdm) may crack, causing a fuel leak.
  ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fdm flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on december 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. • Recall 117619 [USA]: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  The timken company (timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from january 22, 2015, to may 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 ford escape, 2001-2011 mazda tribute, and 2005-2011 mercury mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
  timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on may 21, 2015. Owners may contact timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.

• Recall 104385 [USA]: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 ford escape and mercury mariner vehicles manufactured august 18, 2006, through september 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the electric power steering (eps) assist.
  ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (pscm) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the pscm when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on july 18, 2014. Owners may contact ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14s05.

• Recall 2016528 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  On certain vehicles, the thickness of the port wall of the fuel delivery module (fdm) may be below specification and could result in the supply port cracking. If a crack were to develop in the vertical portion of the fdm fuel supply port, a fuel leak could occur. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the fdm flange with a flange that has a redesigned fuel supply port.

• Recall 2014193 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles, a fault in the electric power steering (eps) system could result in an immediate loss of power steering assist without warning to the driver. This would unexpectedly increase the steering effort force necessary to steer the vehicle at lower vehicle speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will affect repairs as necessary and will reprogram the eps controller with updated software. In the event that an eps fault occurs, this updated software would allow for continued eps function while displaying visual and audible warnings to the driver until the end of the drive cycle.

• Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072. Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.On january 27, 2023, nhtsa opened defect petition (dp) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On june 24, 2023 and as supplemented on june 25, 2023, the petitioner notified nhtsa he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioners withdrawal, dp22-005 is closed. Closure of this dp does not represent a determination by nhtsa regarding the subject matter of the petition.

• Loss of power steering while driving investigation # DP15001

  On may 27, 2014, amended june 2, 2014, ford motor company (ford) submitted a defect information report (dir) to nhtsa describing a safety defect that may result in a sudden loss of power steering assist while driving in approximately 746,067 model year (my) 2008 through 2011 ford escape vehicles equipped with electric power assisted steering (nhtsa 14v-284, ford 14s05). Fords dir described the defect condition as a poor signal to noise ratio [snr] in the torque sensor within the electric power assisted steering (epas) system [which] does not allow the pscm to determine the drivers steering input. When the system detects this fault condition, it transitions the epas system to the fail-safe/manual steering mode.Fords dir indicates that loss of power steering assist while driving would require higher steering effort at lower vehicle speeds, which may result in an increased risk of a crash.Fords remedy instructs dealers to check the power steering control module (pscm) for diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) to determine the proper repair procedure. If no dtcs are present, dealers are to update the pscm and instrument cluster module software. The updated pscm software changes the torque sensor fault strategy so that the snr condition does not result in a loss of power steering assist while driving.In addition, audible and visual warnings are provided for torque sensor faults.If dtcs indicating faults in the torque sensor, pscm or power steering motor (motor) are present in the initial recall inspection, the dealer performs the following repairs: 1) replaces the torque sensor for torque sensor faults (dtc B2278); or 2) replaces the steering column for faults related to the pscm (dtc B1342) or motor (dtc B2277).Continued in attachment pages

• Electronic throttle body malfunction investigation # PE13003

  On february 21, 2013, the office of defects investigations (odi) opened preliminary evaluation pe13-003 to investigate allegations of electronic throttle body (etb) failures resulting in sudden reduction of engine power in model year (my) 2009-2013 ford escape, fusion, mariner and milan vehicles. During this investigation, ford identified a condition in subject vehicles equipped with 2.5l and 3.0l engines that may result in a sudden reduction of engine power.According to ford, the etb internal motor contacts may develop a high resistance material buildup condition on the commutator, resulting in intermittent electrical connectivity and reduced engine power. When this condition occurs, the malfunction indicator lamp (mil) or wrench light will illuminate and the vehicle may enter a limited limp home mode.Ford’s trade name for the feature is failure mode effects management (fmem) mode.In this mode, engine power and vehicle speed are reduced, while full function of the power steering, power braking, lighting, and climate control systems are maintained.Odi’s complaint analysis indicate that the predominant failure mode involved reduced motive power associated with the limited limp home mode with engine speeds limited to approximately 900 rpm. Analysis of warranty claims provided by ford identified 59,807 claims related to etb replacements and approximately 50 percent of claims are associated with diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) P2111, "throttle body stuck open", and P2112, "throttle body stuck closed".Ford described several factors where the etb motor may fail resulting in dtcs P2111 or P2112 but the failure is not an existing stuck open or closed etb valve position.According to ford, the etb control strategy provides the driver with three fmem modes that allow varying degrees of vehicle mobility depending on the severity of the fault detected.Dtcs associated with stuck open or closed throttle valves are designated the highest failure severity resulting in engine speeds limited to high idle corresponding to the limited limp home mode.Vehicles are not likely to unexpectedly stall as a result of this condition, but drivers may characterize the reduced functionality as a stall, even though their vehicle may still has motive capability.Other fmem limp modes may result in reduced engine performance but will maintain vehicle speed above 20mph. During this investigation, ford and its suppliers, delphi and igarashi, updated the powertrain control module (pcm) software to include a throttle body motor cleaning cycle during key-on and modified the etb internal motor components design, surface finish and material composition to improve durability. Additionally, ford developed a remedy procedure and issued a special customer satisfaction program (csp) 13n03 extending the etb warranty coverage and instructing dealers to update the powertrain calibration to improve vehicle performance in the event that intermittent electrical connectivity of the throttle body motor contacts occurs. The program extends the coverage for up to 10 years of service or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, all vehicles are eligible for the program through january 31, 2015 regardless of mileage.Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by mail to take their vehicle to a ford dealer who will reprogram the pcm to the latest calibration. The bulletin was sent to dealers on january 17, 2014 and the owner letter mailing began on january 27, 2014. See the investigative file for copies of fords bulletin and owner letter. The contact owns a 2011 ford escape. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the electric power steering failed to operate as designed. The steering wheel started shaking and became difficult to turn. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed as a torque sensor and power steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The manufacturer then referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. The contact was relating the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The failure mileage was 208,587.

2011 ford escape awd- passenger side brake issue- after driving and brake/rotor getting hot making the rim even feel hot. My car vibrates when driving down the street because of this problem. It also has very poor stopping and after stop vehicle doesn’t like to move until i hit the gas pedal. I have very poor gas mileage because something is hanging up ( passenger side only ) this is dangerous and no one wants to do a recall- i’ve been having problems since 2020 we have replaced caliper/rotor/brake pads and the rubber brake hose fixes the problem for about 3-4 months then comes back ( i called a ford dealer and they no about the issues i’m getting where i don’t feel safe in my own vehicle and ford doesn’t want to do nothing about it. Guess when someone gets hurt/death they will have a law suit on their hands because they know about the problem with the brakes

Lost total control of power steering and almost crashed. I noticed recall 14s05 for power steering control module. It only covers cars built between 2008 and sept 11,2010. My vehicle was built october 2010 at same plant. How sure can i be that my vehicle was not built with defective part. The cost to replace the power steering control module is amost $2200. My car is at the ford dealer ship at this moment. I reached out to ford customer relations, but no such luck. I happen to own 6 fords at t he moment and have purchased nothing but fords for 20 years.This issue could have gotten me killed.

Driving down the road the vehicle power steering completely cut off. Upon taking to the shop they stated it was a check engine code that referred to a recall

We lost power steering 2-3 years ago in my car while driving on twisty hilly roads in ithica, ny on way to get our 3 young grandchildren and thank god it was my husband driving because i probably would have been in a serious accident... Tons of cars recalled... Same make,same model,same year and made at same plant in kansas!!!!! But ford never recalled mu vin#..... We were stranded there and lost time from work!!!! We took it to 3 ford dealers with no help!!! Wanting almost $2,400!!!!! Lost time from work getting it fixed which took over 3weeks and finally our mechanic found the part!!!! Power steering column!!!! How with 1,000s of complaints is mine not covered!!!! It's the steering column!!!! It's not like it's a muffler!!!! Now after paying to get it fixed !!!! I have since given this to my 18 year old daughter for her senior year and she lost power steering almost sending her into head on traffic!!!!! My daughter almost got killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes we were told its the god [xxx] steering column again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do i have to so to go after ford for this serious issue!!!!!! They make billions and billions of dollars selling faulty, dangerous cars!!!!!!! And are allowed over and over and over again to get away with it!!!!!! They know full well that there is a serious issue and should have recalled all of the 2011 escapes to get that part fixed!!!!!! All!!!! When are you or somebody going to put a stop to this [xxx]!!!!!!!!! Almost exactly 3 years to the day of when this happened before!!!! Now i have to wait again to find a part, pay tons of money again!!! And thank god my daughter didn't get hurt!!!!!
