• Recall 142363 [USA]: A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

• Recall 146968 [USA]: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.

• Recall 123558 [USA]: During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

• Recall 120451 [USA]: If the operator is not warned of an abs or esc malfunction and the esc loses engine torque control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 ford edge vehicles manufactured february 9, 2015, to august 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect antilock brake system (abs) and electronic stability control (esc) software. This software can cause the esc system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an abs or esc system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 126, "electronic stability control systems" and number 135, "light vehicle brake systems."

  Issue: on certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (ontario, quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador). Safety risk: a loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a ford or lincoln dealer to replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer. If one or more of the bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed.

  Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 208 - occupant protection in frontal impacts. Certain driver frontal airbag modules may have been assembled incorrectly. In the event of a crash warranting deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, the airbag may not completely fill, or the airbag cushion may detach from the airbag module, which would not protect the driver as expected, and could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the driver's frontal airbag.

  Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 126 - electronic stability control systems. Vehicles that were brought to a dealer for service may have received an incorrect software update for the antilock brake system stability control system. The incorrect software disables the engine torque control of the electronic stability control (esc) system, and if a fault were to occur in the stability control system, including antilock brake system (abs), traction control (t/c), and esc, no warning lamp/indicator would be displayed to the driver. Additionally, no warning lamp/indicator would be displayed when traction control is disabled, or when the electric parking brake (epb) is applied. A lack of visual warning to indicate these systems are not functioning would be contrary to the requirements of the standard, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will reprogram the abs module to correct the non-compliance. Until this software is available, dealers will replace the abs module.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety risk: sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). The contact owns a 2016 ford edge. The contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed on the vehicle, she was informed that the lug nuts were loosened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lug nuts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the nhtsa for assistance. The failure mileage was 49,190.

The contact called the dealer where it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. So about 3 weeks ago on tuesday my check engine light came on my 2016 ford edge and the car was stuttering. The following day wednesday i took it to my mechanic and they said it's a cylinder 2 misfire and replaced my spark plugs then 4 days later sunday my check engine light came back on i could go no faster then 40mph. Had to wait till july 6th to bring it to my ford dealership steven's ford in milford ct where they found i had coolant leaking into my engine which is a know ford issue with there 2015- 2018 eco boost engines and the only repair they have is to replace the engine with a new one because a reman engine would have the same problem and the reason i could not drive my car above 40 mph is because it was only running on 3 cylinders

For the second time, a brake has failed on this vehicle. The first was passenger-side brake line rupture in 2019, which was repaired under warranty. Yesterday the driver’s side brake line ruptured while awaiting for recall repair to be done.

I was told parts for the safety recall would be in at the end of 2020. Were now almost halfway through 2021 and the parts are still unavailable. I did receive a letter from ford about the safety recall and that parts were in and to call and schedule the maintenance appointment. I scheduled an appointment for this month, june 2021 and now they tell me parts are still not in and not expected till mid july 2021. My husband and i have one car and if something were to happen that would be terrible. Our lives are important and we drive our son around, we don’t feel safe knowing our brakes could not work properly.

This vehicle has a design flaw within the engine. The engine and head gasket had a leak that caused the vehicle cylinder to fill with engine coolant, and caused the vehicle to unexpectedly misfire, overheat, and stall. I have also read accounts of other individuals vehicles catching fire. Thankfully this has not happened with my vehicle, however, it did stall out in the middle of the road during rush hour. As a result it was taken to ford and they informed me that the entire engine would need to be replaced as a result of the failure.
