P0299

Turbocharger/Supercharger "A" Underboost Condition

DTC P0299, sometimes indicated as P029900 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing turbocharger/supercharger "a" underboost condition.

The P0299 code means that the turbocharger or supercharger is not working properly. This can be caused by a variety of things, including a clogged air filter, a malfunctioning turbocharger, or a leak in the intake system.
The first step in fixing this code is to identify the cause. Once the cause is identified, the appropriate repairs can be made. If the problem is with the turbocharger, it may need to be replaced. If there is a leak in the intake system, that needs to be fixed as well.

2017 HONDA CIVIC

My car randomly lost power in the middle of the freeway forcing me to turn on hazards and make my way from the express lane to the nearest off ramp going 20 mph while trying to avoid an accident. My check engine light began to flash rapidly causing further anxiety. Fortunately i was able to make my way to safety and call a tow truck. I attempted to have my car delivered to the nearest Honda (walnut creek ca) however they did not have any availability for a few days. The car also had lots of smoke coming out the exhaust and read check engine oil level on and off. It was a nightmare and who knows what it's going to cost me to repair. On top of all the work i'll loose being my work relies on my car 100%. I've owned nothing but Hondas however this time i feel i made a bad purchase buying a new 2017 Civic. I've kept up with maintenance, only goes to dealership, pumped nothing but premium gasoline. I am sad, upset, angry, anxious and very much still in disbelief that this is happening to my 3 year old car at only 80,000 miles . What can i do? Is anyone else having same issue? I got a code P0299 turbo underboost

2017 RAM 1500 with 155000. miles

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. While driving 70 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate past 30 mph. Tri-lives motors (180 state hwy f, branson, mo 65616, (417) 334-7543) diagnosed the vehicle and found code numbers: P0299 (supercharger underboost) and P2459 (diesel particulate filter regeneration frequency). The codes were reset and the master air flow was replaced. The contact was informed to drive the vehicle. After driving 100 miles, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact called the same dealer and was informed to drive the vehicle and take it to a nearby dealer if it lost power. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer for diagnostic testing and the same codes appeared. The technician reset the code and informed the contact that there was no remedy. The vehicle was taken to corwin dodge of springfield (located at 1025 w sunshine st, springfield, mo 65807, (417) 862-9272) for a buyback. A master air sensor was replaced, but the vehicle was still not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that the failure recurred every month since the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken to several unknown dealers in different states where the codes were reset; however, the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 58629945. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

2017 FORD FOCUS with 40000.0 miles

I bought a brand new 2017 Ford Focus and have had it in the shop 6 times for an error code of P0299 turbo/super charger underbooster going off. The engine is losing power when it starts acting up and to protect the car it shuts down the underbooster. I have almost been rearended several times and my very pregnant daugher in law and i were almost t-boned due to the problem as we wete making a left turn out of my neighborhood onto a busy street. When taking it into the shop lou fusz chesterfield has told me several times they were not able to find an issue with the car or duplicate the problem. Because the check engine light would alarm and when you turn the car off the code resets itself. I have asked Ford to work with me to replace the vehicle and they just said they could do nothing because i had 18 months due to the lemon law in missouri.

2016 BUICK ENCORE with 88000.0 miles

Our vehicle started losing pick up and go in the middle of driving about 2 weeks ago. Check engine light came on, so we took the vehicle to identify the issue. Error codes P0299 turbo/super charger underboost issue was identified. We called the dealership and were told the part is on backorder until maybe july. Even after market parts apparently are unavailable because gm is purchasing them. We contacted service manager at dealership because we are without a car that we are paying for and there is a huge concern that if the part is this difficult to obtain, there must be an undisclosed issue going on here. The service manager said they are only able to obtain updates for parts once the part is ordered, but also did confirm there is ( not necessarily a backorder, but the part is hard to come by!?!). He could not answer why. He did encourage us to contact consumer affairs to escalate our concerns. We did contact consumer affairs and were directed to contact nhtsa. We currently are without our vehicle that we continue to pay for and continue on this journey of tell this person or department and we are getting nowhere fast. Something bigger is obviously going on here and as always the paying customer continues to be the one paying for it. We want the part and it would be nice to not be inconvenienced with scrambling everyday on how to get to/from work and how to get to/ from caring for elderly parents who are in need of our assistance to eat, bath and remain safe. This issue is a huge inconvenience and truth needs to be told by gm/Buick.

2014 CHEVROLET CRUZE with 54000.0 miles

My 2014 Cruze has a turbo in it to make it "eco" - i.E., rely on turbo for boost when more power is needed rather than using more gas. My Cruze entered "limp mode" in july with 54,000 miles on it. The turbo failed to work while merging onto the freeway and check engine light came on. It was shifting into 4th gear with high rpm to keep freeway speed. When diag box was later plugged in, the code came back as "P0299" - turbo underboost. I attempted to replace the sensor (code came back) and solenoid (code back again) as they came up often in research when looking for a solution. Turbo worked fine for a month and then quit again with the same code and my car in limp mode again. I filed a complaint through gm and they managed to get the part that was backordered indefinitely due to factory workers being on strike. Apparently, gm cut their healthcare overnight. I'd strike too. The service printout i received after replacement stated that they could find nothing wrong with the turbo: "inspected for oil intrusion, none found wastegate solenoid connector missing retainer - does not affect function. Bypass valve opens and closes when commanded. No air induction restriction found. Recommend turbo for failed boost cotrol test" this sounds to me like a faulty part, and an expensive one at $1,501.86, that i paid for but did not break. Not to mention the sensor and solenoid replaced prior. My car is "fixed", and runs, but this is still an issue with the vehicle in general, and the turbo should be recalled to prevent future danger for others. I also think it's bs that i've had to pay a month's rent for a part that shouldn't have failed at only 54,000 miles. I will not be keeping this car and paying another month's rent in a year. I will also not be doing business with any gm manufacturer.

I purchased my car in mid-feb 2014 and it performed flawlessly the winter of 2014. I started my car on monday jan 5 (oat +5f) let it idle for a minute and drove 35 mi to work on the highway (rpm >2500), i don't have a temp gauge, but my car did not seem to warm up like normal. (usually its warm after about 3 mi, and hot after 10-15). After work (+8hrs later) i started my car (oat +15f), letting it idle for a minute then drove out of the parking garage (~100') and my car lost power, and had a flashing glow plug light, i believe this was limp mode. I pulled into a parking lot, let my car idle for a few minutes and there was no change. I shut the car off, waited a minute or two, and restarted the engine, appeared to run fine and i continued my drive home. I pulled my vagcom codes and saw that P0299, low boost pressure, i attempted to get my car into the dealer, but they were too busy. I did not drive my car tuesday, but drove it to and from work wednesday without a problem. On thursday morning i started my car (-5f), it idled for less than a minute and then died. It continued to turn over, but would not start. I pulled the codes again (did not clear them from earlier in the week) and saw that i had a new fault P0087, low fuel pressure. I had my car towed to the dealer (vw roadside is slow, but free) and did not hear anything from the dealer until friday afternoon. I was told that ice was discovered in my intercooler and that it had been replaced and the cold weather kit was installed.

2013 FORD ESCAPE

I purchased the car on june 09/2021 after taking the car home i noticed a severe lack of power at times when acceleration is crucial in order to navigate safely, such as when approaching an expressway ramp after having been at the light that controls access at the nearby intersection. Traffic moves quickly after lights change, and when i went to blend in from the merge lane, the car was inresponsive, the accelerator hit a dead spot that sent the engine spinning into very high rpms suddenly..5000 rpms the car became an obstacle and other drivers had to swerve to avoid an accident. All in the car were startled and i was upset because of the near collision. The usual sluggish engine response suddenly became dangerous. This car has 2 codes in the computer unit which are identified by these codes..P0299-00 and P26AC-00 they only show if vehicle is hooked to a scanner and no check engine light has been activated. My mechanic found them. The dealer refuses to admit theres any problem and Ford motor has no recall for this issue. This car is available for inspection upon request.

My 2013 chevy Cruze lt has an issue with the turbocharger. It appears to be a very common issue among chevy Cruzes. The code i believe it gives is P0299. While the acceleration and power always seemed off since prior to the incident, the first time the check engine light came on was at about 71,400. I was driving on a highway at the time. However, there have been occasions when i'm going uphill and despite the sufficient horsepower, it won't accelerate as it should. As a result, the turbocharger issue has caused the car to go much slower than the surrounding cars while going uphill, which clearly seems to endanger the driver and passengers as well as surrounding cars.

The diagnostic didn't return any information & i contacted the dealer & took the vehicle for service on 4/9/17. I was told the thermostat housing was leaking and caused the smoking. The coolant system was flushed & filled & a gm oil, lube, filter change was done. The vehicle was ready for pick on 4/19/17. A few weeks later the car was smoking again. I called the dealer, i was told it was probably just fluid on the engine. The car continued to smoke periodically. 6/7/17, there was a large pool of oil under the car, i took the car to a local shop. They said that the oil had been overfilled & that it blew a seal. I called the dealer, i was told they did not overfill the oil & made another service appointment. I was told again there was a problem with the coolant system & the oil & that was the reason for the smoking. Repairs completed 7/10/17. 9/27/17, while driving the check engine light came on, so i called onstar for a diagnostic & they gave me an error code P0299. They told me that it was an airflow problem. I called the dealer & asked for the service manager & gave her the error code. She said there was a problem with the turbo & that i needed to bring the vehicle in. I took the car to them 10/3/17. 10/4/17, the service department called me & told me that the turbo on the car was bad. The repairs were completed on 10/12/17. 10/13/17 the car overheated. The vehicle was leaking coolant in two places. I took it to a different dealer & they said the t-joint in the coolant system was leaking.
