P0010

"A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)

DTC P0010, sometimes indicated as P001000 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing "a" camshaft position actuator circuit (bank 1).

The DTC P0010 is set when the PCM detects a malfunction in the A camshaft position actuator circuit for bank 1. This can be caused by a number of issues, such as a broken or shorted wire, a bad actuator, or a PCM that is no longer communicating with the actuator.
Symptoms of this DTC may include rough running, engine misfires, and reduced engine power.
If the DTC P0010 is set, it is recommended that the cause of the problem be diagnosed and fixed as soon as possible.

2016 KIA OPTIMA with 99200.0 miles

E - c v v t seal seating issue. My 2016 Kia Optima is giving an obd ii error code of P0010 "a" camshaft position actuator circuit. This causes reduction in power during acceleration, and elevates engine idle speeds to 1200-1400 rpm. This elevation in engine speed causes the car to try to move forward even when the brakes are pressed in stop and go traffic. In stop and go traffic, this could easily lead to vehicle crashing. This, i believe, should be a part of recall instead of a technical service bulletin from the manufacturer. Hyundai and Kia use same engine, and has a tsb number 15-01-022-1, and Kia has a tsb to change the motor plug and ecvvt cover for it. They are aware of this issue in their car, and it should be a recall. When the car was in motion for me the first time the check engine light came on, i almost hit a car in front of me as the engine does not go back down to idle speeds. This is dangerous.

Engine stalled in heavy traffic. Restarted after turning ignition off and on. Car kept hesitating every time from brake to gas when trying to move forward from stopped. Check engine light came on with code P0010. Dealer kept it for 4 days and couldn't find the problem, no charge. 10 days late the issue returned. Car stalled 4 times in a few miles of stop and go traffic. Seems to only happen after car sits idling in traffic. Move foot from brake to gas and engine dies. Taking to the dealer again next business day. After google searches it appears that the 'camshaft position actuator solenoid valve needs to be replaced. I hope the dealer has google search

I have a 2015 terrian sle. Around 57,000 miles my terrian started burning 2+ 2+quarts of oil in between oil changes with no apparent reason, i have always kept the oil changed before it got below 7%, after noticing the oil levels dropping fast i checked it everyday. The engine light came on with my last oil change, 2 weeks ago, showing 2 bad cam sensors P0010 and P0011. I went to my mechanic only to find out that the 2.4 motors have been littered with oil leaks, timing chain problems, cam sensor issue and stalling. I paid good money for this car and i am not pleased with the continuing motor problems from Gmc. If the same problem that occurred on early models is still happening, why is there not recall? I am frustrated as i have only one vehicle and the out of pocket cost is ridiculous, especially when i'm being told it's cheaper to buy a new crate motor than fix what is wrong. I have always been a fan of Gmc until this. It's no wonder why everyone has switched to foreign vehicles, the ones made in the us are so cheaply made and priced 3 times there value.

My check engine light turned on and my car has power hesitation during acceleration. This happend 1-2 days out of the week until the forth time it happened the check engine light stayed on and continues to have power hesitation as well as high idling at all times, burning oil, smoke coming from the exhaust, and the brakes are extremely hard when needing to brake. I took it to a local mechanic and they did a diagnostic that returned a code of P0010 and they referred me to a Hyundai dealership for repair. I was also given a technical service bulletin with a campaign number of 15-01-022-1. I took it to the dealership and they also came back with the same code. I have paid for the parts and diagnostic and they couldn't give an estimate of when the parts would be available because they are on back order. Here i am two weeks later calling the dealership to follow up and was told by the parts department that they contacted Hyundai directly and there are 1800 of those parts on back order with an estimated time of being at least two months for the parts to come in. Hyundai also stated that they have submitted a high priority for them. I will be without a vehicle for who knows how long.

Purchased my pre-driven suv 88 days ago. After pumping gas, i attempted to start my car & it wouldn't start. I turned off the radio, tried again because it was cold out it started but simultaneously the 'check engine light' canmr on. While idling at a traffic light less than a min later, it cut-off again! Another car was right behind me. I turned on my flashers & started up again. When attempting to pulling out of the parking lot at my next stop, it cut-off again! I restarted my car, kept my flashers on and prayed while driving down the street trying to arrive home to beat the expected 'icestorm' i called the service dept but they were closed but would call back. The next morning i had my car towed back to the dealer - 13 miles away. The service dept. Has had had my car for more than 2 days & couldn't identify the problem. They eventually said the error code was P0010. The part needed was: cam shaft position acuator. The extended warranty that the dealer suggested & i paid for, refused to cover parts, labor or rental reimbursement even after arguing with the service mgr. Judging by the comments/complaints this is a serious problem with the Equinox, i'm not the only one. I am a widow, on disability & need a reliable vehicle but this defect has placed me in a very serious situation. I could have been rear-ended or much worse seriously injured. This is dangerous! This needs to be recalled and remedied once-and-for-all. I had no prior knowledge or i wouldn't have purchased this car! Almost cause 3 or 4 colisions because people driving behind me do not know that my car is goannamake sudden stop when shuts off. This is happening on daily basis after car worms up. I have taken it to the dealer and they pulled codes P0010 and P0011. I replaced both selinoids (intake and exhaust) $42.58 each but that did not solve the issue. I was also told to replace sparkplugs and i did coosing original brand at napa parts store. This also did not solve the issue. I am thinking to replace the coils as well, but they are expensive and non returnable. Local dealer advised me that my power train warranty expired on 12/05/2018. Almost exact date when car started acting up. I contacted gm on 01/08/2019 and 01/15/2019 and was told the same. S.O.L. Wehicle power train expired on 12/05/18. I contacted them on january 8th 2019 and they did not even wanted to talk. I wastold that there is no recals and to piss off. I did however, notice the oil consumption. Walmart associate called me and asked when was last time i replaced oil, and i pointed out the date on the sticker and told him that he wasthe one doing it last time i was at walmart replacing the oil. He laughed and stated that oil level was too low and light is not on. He advised full car troubleshooting and test. I tracked the milage since that date and noticed that car was consuming 1 qt of oil every 1,850 miles. This was not acceptable. Not sure what to do. Since the recalls and technical bulletins all appear to have been "completed" for this vehicle i guess i can look forward to repeating the same problematic repairs again and again for the remainder of the time that i own this vehicle which do not appear to have resolved but merely band aided away until they reappear. Even the drivers door switches all had to be replaced which tells me that this is related to an electrical problem and with so many complaints the matter had forced consumers to pay for repairs that were designed to fail without regard to the consumers safety nor financial burdens. It appears that the electrical issues which most are directly linked to the defective engine wiring harness and grounding issues as many technicians are reporting. At this point the truck needs to be totaled.

The light is turning red, so i have the opposite lanes traffic getting ready to go, and there i was stuck in the middle. Luckilyi was able to get it started again and get out of the oncoming traffics way. My vehicle has been randomly doing this for about 2 weeks now and my check engine light finally came on yesterday. I had it checked and codes P0010 and P0011 came up. After doing some research, i came across other people who are having the exact same issue. A lot of people! How has this not been recalled? Esoecially when it puts the driver and any passengers in harms way. I have my kids afraid to ride in the car because they are afraid the car will shut down and we will get into an accident. I had driven my car to work without a problem which is about 2 miles from my house. After work i went to the store again with no problem. When i backed out of the parking space my car stalled. I put it in park and restarted it, but once i put it in reverse again it shook, and stalled. I restarted it again and gave it a little more gas, then put it in gear to back up. Now the check engine light is on. It wasn't on before all the stalling. I took the car home and parked it thinking it may be bad gas. A week went by without any problems. The check engine light was off the next morning when i started the car. . I came to a light and stopped, waiting for the signal to change. When the light changed i started to accelerate and the car started jerking a little and stalled. This is a busy intersection and i didn't want to be stuck in oncoming traffi as i was in the left turn lane. I put it in park and restarted it again. Again it stalled. I restarted it giving it more acceleration then putting it in drive..I pulled into a parking lot and shut it off. After a few minutes i started it and the check engine light is now on. The car stalled 4 more times before i left the parking lot. I drove it home and parked it. I have read several other complaints that sound exactly like mine. I do not feel safe driving this car knowing it can stall at any given moment putting me, my family, and other travelers at risk. So far i have not been on the highway with this issue. I had it checked and the code came back as P0010. This appears to be a similar problem as the 2011 Equinox had and it was recalled. Gm recall 11195a - poor drivability/ safety/ emissions recall for camshaft position actuator solenoids. My 2.4l 2011 Equinox (approx. 47,000 at purchase 11/16 & 71,000 current) is now at days Chevrolet in acworth ga. Due to 1) shutting off multiple times while driving, 2) stalling at idle (fwd & rev). I initially visited days on 12/22/17 to start an oil consumption test related to 15285c, as my car presented with stalling/hesitation/surging and loss of 3 qts oil. As of today (1/3/18), i returned to days when it shut off while driving again. The dealership's diagnosis is intake & exhaust camshaft solenoid failure. I suspected this based on code P0010 recorded by my diagnostic unit. So i got a rental, left my car for the camshaft repairs, and researched recalls. The 2011 2.4l has many known engine/powertrain/safety issues. Lo and behold, i found the recall on the camshaft diagnosis. It reads exact to what i'm experiencing. My next step was contacting days to ask why i'm being charged for a recalled repair. I was informed that they were unaware of recall 11195a. My service advisor, rob, looked up the recall and discovered that there is in fact a recall for the exact diagnosis, yet could not explain why my vin is not included. He advised that the car is exhibiting exactly what the recall is issued for and that it's clearly a known safety issue, yet gm will not cover my repair because "the vin is not included". I very much believe this is gm's responsibility and gm should cover the repair at no cost because it's a result of their faulty engineering. I contacted gm customer service tonight and was told there's nothing gm can do. I strongly disagree. Gm can do the right thing. I requested a case be opened and was given #83734190593 after pressing (paul) for one. In the end. Gm was of no help and my vin is still in limbo, so i'm filing my complaint here.

2011 BUICK REGAL with 73500.0 miles

When at a stop sign my vehicle died. I was able to restart it but at slow speeds it continued to die. On the way home, at highway speeds the car performed fine. At slow speeds the rest of the day and during a test drive the next day, after about 10 minutes, the vehicle died almost continuously, losing power steering etc. To get home i had to keep a foot on the gas while braking/turning and stopped to keep the idle speed up. I was able to get it to the dealer the next day. The diagnostic check revealed a P0010 failure code from which they found the intake camshaft actuator solenoid was shorted. They replaced it and currently it is operating fine. They indicated it was not covered under warranty and not subject to the specific vehicle recall that i received.

2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX with 34681.0 miles

Vehicle engine stalled while the vehicle was in motion at 35 mph resulting in impaired steering ability, and loss of vehicle control in a road curve. A crash was narrowly avoided. No warning light or operator notification was present prior to the incident. Odb scan codes indicated a P0010 code 'camshaft position actuator solenoid valve'. Vehicle stalled while vehicle was in motion on at least 5 other occasions returning vehicle to dealer for service. Service history indicates the intake camshaft solenoid was replaced under warranty in 2011 due to identical failure mode and fault code, the exhaust camshaft solenoid failed with code P0011 and was replaced under warranty in 2015, and the intake camshaft solenoid failed again in 2016 at 34,681 total vehicle miles. Vehicle has been operated in nominal city driving conditions with consistent maintenance of the oil and oil filter per the oem oil life monitor. The third failure of the camshaft solenoid was charged at customer expense. Repeat failure of the camshaft solenoid actuator indicated an unmitigated product design issue resulting in engine stalls without warning while the vehicle is in motion and impaired steering control.

2010 FORD FUSION with 5970.0 miles

As i was passing another vehicle, the vehicle lost power and a warning light illuminated telling me to pull over immediately. Luckily i was able to make it to the side of the highway. The codes pulled were P0010, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204. The dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. The issue happened again on 5/30/11 as i was driving on the highway. The same codes as the first incident was found with an additional code of P1A03. Again the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. I feel this is a safety issue because when you are driving along on the highway the cars around you do not expect you to dramatically slow down. If you manage to safely make it to the side of the road without being in an accident or causing an accident you still face another safety issue being stuck on the side of the road with traffic going by at 65 mph.

The check engine light is on. The error code is P0010. I can't drive my car 6 months without some issue. This is just the latest in a long line of problems. I have had to replace my steering column when the car was only 4.5 years old. I had to replace the transmission at only 5.5 years old. I just had to have the passenger door fixed, as it locked, and wouldn't open. And now this P0010 code. I'm facing yet another costly fix on this car. I believe there should be a recall on this error code so that i am not forced to pay out of pocket yet again.
