P0102

Mass or Volume Air Flow "A" Circuit Low Input

DTC P0102, sometimes indicated as P010200 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing mass or volume air flow "a" circuit low input.

This code is set when the PCM detects that the mass or volume air flow sensor signal is below a calibrated value. This can be caused by a vacuum leak, a dirty air filter, or a faulty mass or volume air flow sensor.
If you are experiencing this code, first check for a vacuum leak. If there is no vacuum leak, then replace the air filter. If the code persists, then replace the mass or volume air flow sensor.

2010 FORD F-150 with 9230.0 miles

My Ford F-150 truck(milage,529) has stalled or lost power and stalled 10 times on 5 different occasions. The problem started on 01-14-11. The first two visits to the dealer they could not duplicate the condition or find a code in the computer. No mechanical work was performed. On 01-26-11 the wrench appeared, i drove directly to the dealer. The tech found two conflicting codes. He e-mailed Ford tech center with the problem. On 01-28-11 they replaced the throttle body. (code P0505) on 02-01-11 truck stalled again, this time they replace the resonator(pin point leak to the resonator hose code P0102 at 9511 miles. On 02-08-11 truck stalled at a stop sign. ( no wrench) on 02-15-11 truck stalled twice (wrench showed up ) at mileage 9,525- 14 miles since the resonator work. On 02-16-11 i had a meeting with the service manager. He was very courteous and professional. I gave the service manager a copy of a report on problems for 2010 Ford F-150 trucks. (www.Arfc.Org) i understand this information is from the national highway traffic safety administration (www.Nhtsa.Gov) this way they can not say they never heard of the problem. On 02-16-11 truck was returned to dealer. This is a very dangerous condition. The truck stalls between 10 and 40 mph you lose the ability to steer the truck. On one occasion i was turning into my property making a left turn. I was going slow so i was able to stop before i hit a snow bank. Once you lose power steering there is no way to steer the truck and the breaks fade very fast.

2008 HONDA CR-V with 9394.0 miles

Involving a 2008 Honda crv, new; purchased in texas/reg. In texas. 8/19/09 driving at approximately 30 miles per hour the vsa light and symbol came on, i felt the brakes or tires grabbing while trying to accelerate; immediately went to the Honda dealer. They checked the vehicle while i waited, "cause: m99, codes P0102, P0141 P0340, cleared light and test drove. 9/14/09,one month later the lights came on again as i was entering the highway; the tires or brakes grabbed again resulting in my having to pull off to allow the highway traffic to pass until it was safe to enter the highway slowly. I went to the dealer the next morning 9/15/09. "cause: f, m99 see notes 16 w93, 9814 had same codes as before; performed available software update and test drove. If codes come back again will need new ecu." that evening, started the car up to go to work, the lights came on, vsa, vsa symbol and engine light; i called the dealer and they said they would order the ecu. When i came out from work and started the car the same lights were on plus the battery light. On 9/16/09 i went to the dealer, "cause: e m99 replaced ecu and test drove 16 w93, 1 913931 ecu. Codes P0141, P0340, P16BC, 83-1. I was assured not guaranteed, it was taken care of. 9/21/09 after a stop light, starting to accelerate, at approximately 20 miles an hour making a left turn the lights returned and stayed on until i reached home. I called to speak with the service representative, he was not available. On 9/22/09 when i started the car the lights came back on, i took the car to the dealer. It is being kept overnight so that they can have a full day to work on it.

2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 with 5560.0 miles

During the winter here in northern ohio i have been experiencing a reduced power mode in my chevy diesel powered truck. It has happened repeatedly, almost daily, and on friday, mar 20th, while driving on the freeway the truck unexpectedly went into this reduced power mode twice and dropped from 65 mph to less than 40 mph, almost causing a crash because of the sudden deceleration in one instance. I have been to the dealership twice now over this issue, in both cases they said it was my aftermarket air intake product and it's supposed fouling of a key engine sensor, the maf sensor. They blamed oil from the air filter fouling the sensor, and yet the air filter was there and there was no sign of oil seepage or fouling of the sensor. Since then i have, at my expense, replaced the air intake system back to factory and the maf sensor, and all that was before friday when i almost got hit by a semitruck. I have researched the internet, consulted with two aftermarket air intake manufacturers and have determined that this issue is not what has been blamed to date but something else faulty on my truck. Either in the wiring harness affecting sensor output or a different sensor that works in conjunction with the one sensor that the dtc says is at fault. There has been issued tsb's on this engine family relating to my issue, gmc is aware that there exists an issue, and yet i have to pay out of pocket for repairs and parts and labor for something that should have been resolved the first time under warranty. The dtc is P0102, maf sensor low input, the sensor i replaced looks identical to the one i put in, no signs of fouling. I even at one point purchased a maf sensor cleaner made by crc, used it according to directions and still got the dtc, the reduced power mode and a check engine light. The truck will resume normal operating after 15 to 20 minutes, but then will fault out again soon after or on the next restart. No issue last winter, even w/ the aftermarket air system.

2006 MERCURY MILAN

I got into the car with my one month old granddaughter and her mom and my son, the car hesitated to start, got on the expressway and tried to pick up speed and the car goes only to 55 speed and it don't pick up so i had to get off the expressway with my family because the car wasn't acting right, .Then the next thing i know the check engine light came on and the airbag came on and that tool bar on the left hand side of the dash board came on.As well as the check engine light, this is a 2006 Mercury Milan premier , i heard a lot of clicking while i was driving back home, when i tried to turn the car hesitate and another car almost hit me and my family and one month old granddaughter. I reach out to ford and was told that they didn't have any recall in the system for my car . I don't know what to do this is so wrong , these are some of the codes that has come on the car as well P0403, P0161,P0155,P0141,P0135,P0102, P0020,P0010,P0179,P1489,P0443.

2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER with 110000. miles

Experienced problems with the engine, the check light was on and the gears seemed to be shifting hard and engine running rough as it was in second gear. The recommendation was to first flush the transmission and apply an exterior coolant on to the radiator because of known issues with the radiator leaking into the transmission. This was a temporary band aid because the next time i was going on a long trip, the vehicle shifted hard while driving, jerked and when into 4wd automatically without me touching anything and the check engine light is on again. When you drive over 60 miles an hour the rpms tack up super high and the engine runs with a roar. Had the transmission diagnosed again and the fault codes show a P1754, P1759, P1764,01731, P0102....Basically they are telling me i need a new transmission or a rebuilt one to the tune of 4-5000 dollars, the source of the issue is the faulty radiator which leaked water into the transmission. This is a catastrophic issue to me both safety wise and financially wise and i'm not alone--there are pages and pages of complaints for this same problem you can find all over the internet. I wish i would have known before buying the vehicle but that's water under the bridge. Nissan extending a warranty upto 80,000 miles is a mute point when most of these issues happens after that mileage, to me it's just ridiculous to have such a huge design/component flaw that can cause such a high dollar damage to the vehicle and not have it recognized by Nissan as a recall.

2003 KIA SEDONA EX with 79100.0 miles

I was driving my Kia sedona 2003 ex one day and someone yelled at me that it was on fire. I immediately stopped and the fire came up through the windshield, also the bottom of the vehicle where the panel is. I proceeded to inform the dealer, because i had purchased it used on october 19, 2007 and this happened on march 10, 2008. The only reason why the dealer pretended to deal with it was because i had informed the dealer within less than a month of purchasing it of some details that needed attention, but they had kept putting it off. The dealer picked up the Kia after 2 weeks from the incident and they fixed some holes that were burned, but only the ones i could see. I went various times because i kept having problems, they fixed the gears but, i kept having problems, everytime i went they pretended to fix something but did nothing. I found myself in a no win situation, all i could do was to try fixing things slowly. I had to put in the wire coverings myself, which were burned, also had to put in a new power steering holes, it is now one year later and the consequences have gotten worst, the dealer owner will not talk to me. To my dismay rubber parts burnt keep giving in; ex: the sealer for the valve cover, the two fan belts (i do have most old parts that were replaced). When the seal cover was replaced i realized that the dealer did not replace the most important parts; that being the oxygen sensor with the plugs which are totally burnt and the tps(sensor). The dealer owner will not take my calls and i can not afford to get this fixed, therefore, i am having problems with the exhaust system and a light turned on, i had it scanned and it reads the following: P0102 : low input circuit maf or vaf. Pls advise i have spoken to daco and a lawyer but right now everything is on hold for me. And i can't believe how the owner of the dealer is not concerned when this vehicle is a family vehicle and i am disabled.

Car ran perfectly, then i turned off, then i restarted 5 seconds later to reposition in garage. Engine then revving from 800 to 1200 rpm rhythmically, approx once per second, eml light on, brake light on, service engine light on, very hard to stop car, had anyone been close i would have hit them. Engine revving continued for 2 days, then went away on own. I then took off airbox to inspect maf, filter. Codes on 3rd day: P1632 throttle, pending: P0102, iats. There have been other incidents over the years of restarting engine to have extremely rough idle, also cleared on its own, but never surging like this.

Battery died in 2008. It was replaced and the odometer reset back to zero. The security alarm/ power doors do not function properly ( unable to lock with remote control). Security light stays on while driving. Cd player stopped working and fuel gauge does not show the accurate amount of gas. I have to wait until the light comes on. Now in july 2012, the ac was fixed due to a hole in the line and the car immediately shut off in traffic. The ac no longer works and is giving a code P0102 (maf- mass air flow -referring to low voltage). The service engine light is on along with the airbag, gas gauge and temperature needles not moving at all. In addition, the traction control is not working.

2000 BUICK LESABRE with 80321.0 miles

While driving the vehicle at 35 mph, the dashboard check engine light illuminated. The engine idle speed became erratic and the vehicle stalled. Upon scanning the computer for fault codes, a P0102 code was found. The mass airflow sensor and the idle control valve were both replaced, however the P0102 fault and check engine light re-appeared the next day. I have found hundreds of complaints online for the identical problem that Buick Lesabre owners are experiencing with no solid "cure" for the problem. This condition is un-safe and renders the vehicle unreliable for driving.
