Condition
Some customers may comment that their MIL is illuminated. A technician may nd
P0299 set current or in history.
It is possible for DTC P0299 to set when the vehicles gas tank runs out of fuel and
the engine stops.
Cause
The P0299 diagnostic does not utilize fuel level information and the code could set if
the vehicle is running out of fuel since this will cause the boost to be less than
requested. (under boost).
This information does not apply to conditions caused by fuel pump failures.
Correction:
If SI diagnostics do not lead to the root cause of the P0299 setting, question the customer to see if the vehicle may
have been run out of fuel just prior to the MIL illuminating. If the vehicle has been run out of fuel, clear codes and
return vehicle to the customer.
