Sensor Reference Voltage "B" Circuit Open

DTC P0651, sometimes indicated as P065100 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the causing sensor reference voltage "b" circuit open.

This code is set when the sensor reference voltage "B" circuit is open. This can be caused by a bad sensor, a bad connection, or a wiring issue.
The best way to troubleshoot this code is to start with the basics. Make sure the sensor is plugged in correctly, and that the wiring is in good condition. If the wiring is good, then you may have a bad sensor.

2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA with 50000.0 miles

Driving home one night after just having my vehicle repaired a few weeks earlier, without warning, my vehicle began to stall. Just before the stall it was driving completely normal with no issues at all. Suddenly the check engine light came on along with the messages of service stabiltrack, traction control disabled, and low engine power. When i took the vehicle to the dealer i bought it from i was told that there was an aftermarket senondary air check valve that was causing the issue. With this they gave me the following codes; P0068, P0340, P0651, and P2135. Due to me just recently getting this part replaced this past february i took it back to the mechanic that replaced it. When i received the vehicle back it would no longer even start. The mechanic then informed me that the air valve would not cause this issue and there was something else wrong with the vehicle and to take it to another dealer. When that was done i was told a second time that it was the air valve. I have now come out of pocket twice for tows that i can't afford. Along with paying for an expensive part possibly twice. Vehicle only has 50k miles on it and has never given me any issues until this year.

2010 CHEVROLET COBALT with 188520. miles

My Cobalt illuminates the check engine light as well as the theft light and displays engine power reduced happens multiple times first time it started was in 12/2017. The car was purchased in 2011 always serviced and repaired by dealer ship. The car stalls at stop signs lights or when you pull into a parking lot. Engine light comes and goes. Lights dim and flicker the gauges jump up and down in the dash. After you shut the car off the gauges in the instrument cluster jump adn make ticking noise. When there is no engine light present the car idles rough and acts like its going to die till you start driving then its fine. The issue with the brakes are when you to press them the pedal will depress all the way but its like it dont meet with the pad, this problem is intermittent as well. Obd2 codes have been P0641 P0017 P0651 P0573 current codes stored are P0340 P0300 P0341. I've had this car at the dealer and multiple shops on multiple occasions now without resolution. It's becoming more of a problem than anything especially when your on the interstate and it dies or coming up to a stop light/ sign, a car pulls out or an animal and your brakes fail to stop you! It is a very scary situation. The car does have high miles but i have not had any problems till december of 2017 mileage is 203,602 all maintenance is performed under recommended mileage.

2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA with 91000.0 miles

Owned my 2010 vw Jetta sport wagon tdi 6sp man since new. It has always had an interment cough & sputter that would happen at any speed or condition, but was very infrequent an non-repeatable. Now however, starting at around 85,000 miles, the cough and stall has become more frequent, causes the glow plug indicator light to flash and the vehicle loses power (goes into limp mode?). This used to all reset when turning off the key. The last time i brought it to the dealer, parr imports in bremerton wa, at 89,802 miles it had P0322 & P0651 fault codes. They suspected an intermittent crank sensor fault and wanted me to monitor. It has progressively gotten much worse, i have now lost power in heavy traffic and stalled in the parking lot pulling onto the road and have had to switch vehicles when it would not reset leaving the house. I was compelled to buy the torque application for my android phone to view and reset fault codes. I have not reset the ecu faults at least 4 maybe 6 times and now, at around 92,000 miles, it shows 5 codes and won't reset: P0322: ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit no signal, P2127: throttle/pedal position sensor/switch e circuit low input, P0193: fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input, P0651: unknown code - more information may be available on the web, P0300: random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. My internet research suggest the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) may be an issue with vw blaming it on gasoline contamination, however i have records and receipts confirming i always fuel with diesel from a major distributor.

2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA with 155000. miles

When driving through st. Louis around midnight on i-270 on may 3, the "engine power is reduced" message came on and the car slowed dramatically right in the middle lane of the interstate. Quite scary indeed, not to mention the lurching. After being nearly run over on both sides, i pulled off in a very dark part of town and the police came by to check on me. Initially the car wouldn't start with the message, "starting is disabled, service throttle." after about an hour, the thing allowed me to start it, but still with the "power is reduced" message. I actually drove that thing home (over 90 miles) with semis bearing down on me, alternating flashers and watching over my shoulder. Anyway, the next day, it still wouldn't run normally, but i limped over to an autozone and i replaced the throttle assembly and the throttle body (the engine code said P0651, but that was a waste of $300). No help, same message. I let the car sit. When it first started up, still had the message. But about 5 minutes later, the car started normally!!! The check engine light is on now, but those codes haven't been accurate so far. While the car was running normally, i went out and jiggled all the wiring both under the dash and above the throttle, but could not find a loose wire or get the car to shift into the "engine power reduced" message. I also tapped on and jiggled the air box (because i was told that's where the ecm is located). Still couldn't get it to go bad. Came back out the next time and the car had the "engine power is reduced" message and running horribly. I was fortunate not to be killed, these cars are moving chicanes. I am totally at a loss as to what is going on. Gm service reps say "go to the dealer" but online shows this only results in a bunch of expensive replaced parts that didn't fix the problem. I only suffered a backache but this car is an accident waiting to happen.

2008 PONTIAC G6 with 139500. miles

Car is a 2008 Pontiac G6 gxp - the car is called cybil due to it's issues going on one day and not the next. I bought the car brand new with 128 miles on it. Latest activity is the engine light coming on and the radio screen scrolling low engine power and service esc. If you turned the car off then back on a few minutes later it would seem to run right, engine light would stay on and 3 cycles later go off. Once off it would stall and lights and messages would go off again. This happened for 10 days in a row and on the 10th day the car stalled out completely on busy main road in the middle of rush hour. Managed to get the car started, moved off the road, and towed to a certified dealer. Dealer took 3 hours ($360) to run diagnostics on the car due to generic code of P0651 showing up. At time dealer moved the car into their facility all the warnings and lights had already reset and didn't present themselves. Diagnostics showed history codes for the brake peddle sensor (which has gone off before and was an issue before the recall notice and other $$ spent figuring out why tail lights went on and off at their own will) other was cam shaft sensor (which i see other complaints on) and throttle body sensor which i see no complaints on. There are service bulletins for the cam shaft sensor for the 2.2 and 2.4, but not the high feature l7y - this is a safety issue and if gm knows the sensors are shifting and pushing into something this needs to be recalled to fix. I am lucky i wasn't on the highway when one of these stalling issues happened. Car is currently at dealer waiting on parts to arrive to the tune of $700 - no christmas thanks to gm. The brake peddle sensor should be included in the recall for the tail lights and it is not. Please open an investigation into the cam sensor issue and make them extend the brake light recall to include the peddle sensor!

Car disabled power under load first time 4 yrs ago. Then for the next 4 years continued to come and go. Still happening to this day. Codes: P0651 and P2108. At various speeds and intermittent times would put on check engine light and traction control light. Car cant accelerate. Have to pull over and restart. Biggest mistake was buying an american car.
