P0320

Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction

DTC P0320, sometimes indicated as P032000 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the ignition system causing ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit malfunction.

This code is set when the PCM detects a problem with the engine speed input circuit from the ignition/distributor.
Possible causes of this code include a bad ignition/distributor, a bad wiring harness, a bad PCM, or a bad sensor.
If this code is present, first check the ignition/distributor for damage and replace if necessary. Next, check the wiring harness for damage and replace if necessary. Finally, check the PCM for damage and replace if necessary.

2008 FORD FOCUS with 108000. miles

2008 Ford Focus does not accelerate properly or stalls randomly. On multiple occasions i was in traffic on both city streets and highways and nearly got hit more than once. I had the pcm replaced by a certified Ford mechanic in 11/14, it had a two year warranty. In 1/16 it began doing the same thing. It had to be replaced in 4/16. After replacing the pcm at a Ford dealership the second time my car stalled out on me the next day. The pcm code was the same at each location (code P00607). Both pcm's were purchased from Ford brand new. I am now being told by the Ford dealership that the following code (P0320) was obtained. They indicated the following work needs to be done in the amount of $575.00: the cost of the repairs include: tune up is $260.00 this includes spark plugs ,spark plug boots, and 2 ignition coils and the labor to install them. The cost to replaced the valve cover gasket that is leaking oil into the spark plug valleys is $315.00 this includes the parts and labor. (spark plug valleys #3 and #4 have oil in them.) my concern is that this was never a pcm issue; however, it is something else feeding misinformation to the pcm to send inaccurate codes to the entire system. The probability of three pcm's being faulty in 1 year is not likely. This vehicle has stalled in traffic on more than one occasion and is a risk to others and myself on the roads. I have grave concerns regarding the reliability and safety of the 2008 Ford Focus se. Ford needs to investigate and correct this safety issue.

2006 FORD EXPLORER with 67000.0 miles

November 2009 at 50,000 miles had radiator and water pump replaced under warranty by dealer. March 2010 a recall on the transmission pcm card was installed. Had to notify dealer three times that the transmission was not functioning well, dealer rebuilt transmission. July 2010, 67000 miles the thermostat housing separated and allowed coolant to leak out with no temperature warning resulting in a blown engine. Replaced engine and we are now getting intermittent throttle fault lights along with engine speed input circuit malfunction code P0320.

1999 DODGE INTREPID with 123500. miles

At 1145 am, 29 november 2005, i was driving on interstate 675 at about @ 65 mph, when the engine suddenly, without any prior warning, just quit. I made my way across one lane of traffic to the shoulder and came to a complete stop. Attempts to restart was unsuccessful. Initially, it was thought that the car was out of gas (guage indicated 1/4 of a tank. I called a tow truck and ask that they bring gas. After putting 1 gal of gas in the tank, repeated attempts to start were unsuccessful. The car was towed to dave dennison Dodge, col glen highway, dayton, oh. The agent call me at @ 630pm, 29 november 2005, and informed me that they were investigating the problem. But as of that moment, there were computer codes (cam: P0340, crank: P0320), and that in order to start the car, these sensors would have to be changed. I authorized this service, and on 30 november 2005 @ 200pm, the agent informed me that they were unable to start the engine, and that it was defective, and not a candidate for rebuild. Estimated cost of a new engine $7,000 dollars. Also, they have billed me for the replacement of the sensors, $350.00 estimated. After review of all available info on the internet, it appears there is a history of problems with this engine. On 14 dec 05, crysler's agent, impartial services, made a office of $650. To settle this account. It was not accepted. The complaint was entered into the database: 01 december 2005. *nm
