On 05/03/21 approx. 2:40 pm ct i was excelling to enter highway mopac north; austin, tx; when my car became sluggish; i pulled over, to shoulder, ironically tx roadside assitance pulled in behind me - we couldn't determine the issue - i was exiting the next exit driving to jiffy lube on anderson/spicewood; dialogue screen stating issue re: diagnostic computer; gave two options schedule appt. Or call roadside assistance. Turning into jiffy lube, the car became sluggish, the car wouldn't reverse from the jiffy lube bay. Jiffy lube mechanic ran a diagnostic. I contacted Kia, provided: P0601 internal control, module memory. Vehicle towed to Kia. No information from Kia on 05/03/2021. When i called on 05/04/2021 i was informed "there's a recall for the transmission computer"; i mentioned i hadn't received anything; shawn Kia service said 'oh, no...We would check it when you come in for service"...Crazy thought i was on my way to denver, co...Humm...Possibility of being stranded on a co pass... Called on 05/05/21 need to get a new computer to see if the problem is my computer; won't be for 2 days; only 1 Seltos computer available in the us. 05/10/21 call Kia to find out that it wasn't the computer; maybe the clutch, pulling transmission now; don't have a loaner and can't provide any assistance. They should know something by 05/13/21..No call on wed. 05/13/21; unable to reach shawn in service and ben, gm on 05/13/21. I made 2 calls per day to Kia; the system will only allow me to upload only 5 documents; i have screenshots of every call made and received to/from Kia.

2013 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN with 44000.0 miles

Engine died on highway lost all power and no steering. Was told by dealer it was a bad neg battery cable. It is shocking that a bad battery cable can cause a deadly situation. Certainly someone will die from this defect if they havent already. Dealer claimed to repair the vehicle and it happened only a few miles after i picked up the vehicle. Error code was P0601. They have the car for repair again, but i refuse to every drive the death trap. I have had 20 Suburbans and i hope this is an isolated defect not one that affects all Suburbans. This defect is extremely dangerous. Someone will certainly die from this defect.

2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 with 69000.0 miles

My truck should have no issues as i follow the maintenance schedule and take good care of my vehicle but it has happened twice where i was in the middle of the interstate when my vehicle displayed the check engine light, traction off, stabiltrac off, the airvents stopped blowing cool air and released humidity, brakes were not functioning properly (hard to actually break), steering wheel/power steering was malfunctioning making it almost impossible to turn or get out of traffic and it seems the vehicle just decided to suddenly stall while in motion. I was very lucky due to sudden high risk of a vehicle crash and was able to pull over without getting anyone hurt. I turned the vehicle off once i got in park and looked under the hood, everything was fine showing no issues but i went to start the vehicle and it did not crank or try to turn over but all electronics/lights were still working. I check all fluid levels, all was fine and then i went to try one more time to start the vehicle. To my surprise, it started up just fine and with only the check engine light on and not reading any other messages. All functions were working properly but i was too scared to go anywhere without having an idea what just happened. I went to the closest trusted auto place that would be able to use a scanner to find the trouble codes of my check engine light. The code was for a malfunction with the internal control module (code: P0601). This has happened to me twice in the last week and its very scary to feel at risk for a sudden malfunction to cause a crash. After researching, i noticed that there was a recall bulletin no: 14515b, that had covered pretty much the same issues and for my vehicle's year/model. My vin didn't register for any recalls, i don't understand how other vehicles are getting qualified in order to prevent the same issues i'm experiencing.

2010 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN with 74407.0 miles

8-10-15 driving about 35 mph without warning vehicle completely shut down. No power steering or brakes. Was able to pull off road with difficulty but safely. Check engine light came on. Was able to start after a minute and drove immediately to jack williams Chevrolet in st. Augustine fla. They diagnosed a battery that needed to be replaced (no indication of check engine code on receipt just battery tested and needed to be replaced) drove for a week with no problem then left for my home in pennsylvania. In virginia after refueling and about ready to get on the interstate the same thing happened! This was a much more dangerous situation in heavy traffic. With no power, breaks or steering i managed to get safely off the road. Again i was able to start the vehicle after a minute and being a saturday afternoon with no dealer service available i decided to risk the rest of the drive home. Thankfully i made it and on monday i called Chevrolet directly to ask them why the florida dealer mis-diagnosed the problem, asked why this happened and if there was any recalls or service bulletins. They directed me to sutliff Chevrolet in harrisburg, pa. I did get a check engine light after the second failure but the light was off by monday. They read a P0601 code and replaced and reprogramed ecm. (engine control module i believe). The complaint against the dealer in florida is filed with Chevrolet but i am filing the incident with nhtsa because i believe that this computer failure was extremely dangerous. I cant imagine what could have happened to a young or less experienced driver in this situation. Frankly had that failed at the posted 70 mph posted speed limit on the interstate while i was driving it could have been catastrophic for me as well.

2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA with 111232. miles

I was driving down a very busy street looking for a restaurant and my car made three dinging sounds indicating a issue. Before i even could read what was displaying on my information panel the car lost all power steering and engine power. Because i was traveling at about 55mph i could very luckily coast to a parking lot near by. After coasting to a parking spot i put the car in park and read the information panel, it read reduced engine power, service stabilitrak, and service throttle body. Because i know most american made cars are pure garbage i wont drive one without a ebdii scanner. After reading the ebdii scanner it showed a P0601 code, which indicates a pcm memory issue. After clearing the code it started right back up and drove for about 10 more minutes until i was at a parking lot on a steep grade. The 3 dings happened again and my engine shut off causing me to roll backwards about 10 feet almost into over vehicles. I have done some research on this and have come to found that this is a engineering fault caused by to much current flowing into the power control module, which creates a small hairline crack on the pcm onboard computer, with which many many other gm products have experienced. I feel a recall should be done on all gm products affected by this, this is very unsafe and i feel could lead to deaths. I am a [xxx] male who could control the vehicle with no power steering, imagine a student driver encountering this issue and not being able to maneuver the vehicle away from other drivers or even innocent pedestrians! I know for a fact this has happened to many other gm vehicle owners so does a body count have to stack up before a recall is issued by gm??

2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA with 111450. miles

On my commute to work on the interstate my Impala shut itself off. I was in the left lane when the car showed the reduced engine power on the information panel, it then fully disengaged all engine power and powersteering. Being in the outside lane i had to maneuver my Impala through the heavy traffic and almost caused numerous accidents trying to squeeze to the shoulder. I then coasted off into the grass almost into a large ditch but i slammed on the brakes hard and went into a skid coming to a full stop. I scanned the car with my obd2 scanner, it read P0601. *js

2007 PONTIAC TORRENT with 93700.0 miles

Been having recurring problems as follows: engine fails at high and low rates of speed. Dashboard reads "starting disabled service throttle," "service stabilitrac," and "engine power reduced."check engine light comes on. My temporary remedy is to disconnect the battery. (same problem occurs more predominantly, it seems, with 2007 chevy equinox.) purchased at 87,000 miles. First occurrence for me at about 92,000 miles. Repair garage said was a loose battery cable. Apparently not. Next occurrence was at around 94,000 miles while passing through a one-lane construction zone where crews were working. I was able to get to auto parts store for diagnostic reading. Their reading showed codes P0601 and C0561. I see that numerous other owners have taken their vehicles for service, but received negative results and incorrect repairs. This is a very dangerous situation. Not only are my life and my family's lives at risk, but also the lives of many other drivers, especially with numerous affected vehicles on the roadways. When will we get these issues resolved? Who has to pay the highest price before these problems are remedied? Is this really the national highway traffic safety administration? We have a problem, we are telling you about it. Why are there no investigations on the site? When can we expect answers? Look across numerous other online forums and find that there are thousands of affected vehicles and potential victims. Action must be taken. I wonder if my local news troubleshooter finds this story worthy of immediate publication?

2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER with 47000.0 miles

This is the second time this has happened - what happens is i will be driving ( speed once at 35 once at 60 ) and my Trailblazer just shuts down. Instantly. You have no power to get over to the side of the road. P0601 code - this is what shows on my mechanics system. However, when you research that code online. Some folks have spent thousands trying to stop this issue and no resolve. This is highly dangerous - you go from 60 to nothing. My tb has less than 50k on it.

The vehicle restarted later and was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the following codes were run for the check engine warning: C0240, P0106, P0601. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

This is a follow-up to odi confirmation number: 10610590 where the vehicle would completely shut off without warning. All powered functions were lost. The display screen would signal: "engine disabled." per the chevy dealer, the problem has been identified as a improper working pcm (powertrain control module), where the following error codes were present: P0601 to P0606 and U2109. Estimated cost to repair, at this point, is $740.00 + tax. For peace of mind and of course, reasons of personal safety, we hope that this is the problem. *js

My Pontiac has had a leak for 6 yrs basically since i had it and before that. I didn't think nothing of this but after a while of the sunroof leak it causes corrosion on the electrical terminals in the wire harness inside the dash on driver door side. This corrosion cause your car to throw pcm/tac codes : P0601,P0606,o0107. Causes car to complete stall out and go into reduced engine power mode. This can be extremely unsafe. I am not the only one there is a few hundred people who posted on sites trying to fix the same issue. Please look into this a lot of people don't know about this nhtsa to report recalls.

Engine refuses to start for a couple of minutes then fires up. Has done this a number of times since. Engine code given is P0601 "check sum error", ie computer glitch. This is an unsafe condition, instead of reducing the engine so that one might get out of thraffic, the fact that it kills the engine is a major safeyt risk. Poor programming to say the least.

This initially started backing into traffic, the car just quit. I started it back up and went to put it in drive and it again quit. This happens over and over, until someone pushed me out of the street. Car is now parked until it is repaired.

2001 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY with 60000.0 miles

Beginning 12/04... Head light brightness intermittently varies according to rpm's regardless of speed. Dimness increased by low battery charge after the following have occurred: battery low/dead after leaving doors open for 2-3 hours. Battery low/dead if vehicle not used for several days. Passenger window failure intermittent then complete. Rear vent windows failure intermittent. Driver window failure intermittent. Gear change with significant increase of rpm's at high speeds for no apparent reason. Speed surge at highway speeds for no apparent reason. Overhead control of sliding doors unreliable. Engine light continuously on for over 2 months. Only noticeable problem; increased battery/starting problems. New battery purchased. 10/6/05 eng line code P0601 diagnosed by dealership as need for new pcm board. When code P0601 was entered into the parts database at the dealership, it took several minutes for the search to be completed due to the exceedingly high number of codes processed before the $750.00 pcm board was determined to be the correct part to repair the problems. (turn ignition on and off three times leaving it in on position on the third time to find engine codes! This technical trick has not changed since the mid 80's) all this before 70,000 miles. Logic leads one to believe that the pcm boards are defective, or that their location under the hood, next to the engine and exposure to extreme changes in temperature leads to early failures. Rear view and side view mirrors inadequate for size of vehicle. Many blind spots make this vehicle unsafe to back up anywhere. Chrysler, as usual, needs the federal gov't to issue edicts before recalls will be issued or replacements/repairs made at no cost to the consumer. Electrical failures are this vans greatest downfall. Otherwise, it's a really comfortable ride. *nm

While driving the vehicle at 30 mph, i got a check engine light. The vehicle transmission would not shift to the next higher gear during acceleration. Note: this was also evident by an increase of engine rpm's on the tachometer. This vehicle was purchased new by myself in 2001. It has only 17,508 miles on it!. Checking of the engine fault light revealed a P0601 trouble codei. This is an internal fault in the powertrain control module (pcm). I have seen similar problems noted by other 2001 Chrysler 300 m owners, upon conducting a search on the computer. Since this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle, i would like to know why there have not been any recalls!
