Suspect Oil Leak at Bell Housing Diagnosing fluid leaks near engine rear main seal/transmission bell housing: Customer states there is a red/yellow/gold colored fluid leaking from the engine/bell housing area. Technical Background Due to the use of rust inhibitor/anti-seize products during transmission assembly/transportation, these fluids can wash out of the transmission bell housing over time causing a customer concern of engine/transmission fluid leak. This technical bulletin is intended to inform you of the use of these production products and assist with identifying this concern. Production Solution Information only. Technical Bulletin Service If the fluid from the transmission bell housing is not red the transmission is not leaking Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) as both the 09G AQ250 and 09M AQ450 gearbox fluid is red in color. If ATF is found, please take a picture and contact the Volkswagen Technician Helpline for further assistance if transmission replacement is necessary. Warranty Information only.
