Basic settings can be set for a symptom. The scan tool should automatically enter a test plan through Guided Fault Finding (GFF) or Guided Functions (GF) when the basic settings are needed. Service The following requirements should be met before performing basic settings: Engine and Transmission must be up to operating temperature (Minimum of 30°C / 86°F in Transmission). Vehicle should be clear of all fault codes (ECM and TCM). Vehicle should be in park and idling. Engine must have been running for one full minute before basic settings can be performed. Once basic requirements have been met proceed as follows: Using the VAS diagnostic tool with the latest ODIS updates, select Guided Functions, Transmission Electronics/Gearbox Electronics and then Basic Settings. Enter #61 on the keypad and select the "Q" button to enter into test mode.1 Technical Tips 1. Once the new screen appears, apply the brake pedal firmly and press activate on the scan tool. It may take up to 40 seconds before you hear any noises in the transmission. The test is complete when new numbers display in the bottom box of basic settings. 2. Return to basic settings and select #60 on keypad. Select the "Q" button to enter the test mode. Follow step #1 again. 3. Once you are completed with these two tests, switch OFF the ignition, restart and allow engine to idle. 4. Apply the brake pedal firmly, cycle the transmission gear selector from park to drive 5 times and then from park to reverse 5 times. 5. Road test the vehicle 10-15 miles going through all gears automatically and while using the tiptronic feature. Make sure to vary speeds and driving conditions. Switch the ignition OFF, restart and reevaluate shifting. If the engine were to stall during this procedure, please open a VTA ticket and contact VW helpline.
