Ensuring Correct Battery Type Selection during Testing

Technical Background
When performing testing on a battery, ensure that the correct battery type has been selected in the VAS 6161 or
GRX-3000 VAS. Failure to select the correct battery type will lead to incorrect test results and could indicate a
false failure of a good battery.
At this time the following batteries are installed in Volkswagen models:
 Regular (Lead Acid)
 AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)
 EFB/EFB+ (Enhanced flooded battery)

Service
When performing testing on a battery, ensure that the correct battery type has been selected in the VAS 6161 or
GRX-3000 VAS.
When using the VAS 6161 confirm the correct selection
has been made. Figure 1 displays test modes that are
available.

Technical Tips
Note:
When using the GRX-3000 VAS ensure you press the
down arrow to see additional selections available (see
figure 2).
EFB (enhanced flooded battery) test mode after pressing
down arrow selecting # 5 (see figure 3).

In this example the same battery was tested, but
indicated a failure when the wrong test type was
selected. Figure 4.
