Technical Tip 01-15-08TT - Engine runs rough with MIL ON, DTCs P0011, P0016, P000A, P0341 and or P052A Transaction No: 2042502/4 Release date: 05/01/2020 Condition ATTENTION: THIS IS A TECH TIP, NOT A TECHNICAL BULLETIN. Technical Background Engine may run rough with one or more fault codes present due to possible damaged camshaft adjuster spool valve. Service 1. Monitor MVB 93/3 in the ECM. The field should not exceed +/- 5 degrees. If the field is reading over 5 degrees at idle or during a WOT snap, suspect that the screen located in the camshaft adjuster bridge has come apart and lodged itself within the camshaft adjuster spool and the intake camshaft adjuster (only serviced with the intake camshaft). 2. For an engine that does not run (with one or multiple faults setting), please start with checking the base mechanical timing per ELSA. If mechanical timing is off, please determine the cause of the timing to be skipped/jumped. Still inspect for a missing oil screen in the camshaft adjuster bridge. If piston to valve contact has occurred, the timing chain, tensioner and crank spur gear and crank bolt should be replaced in conjunction with the cylinder head assembly. If the oil screen in present and mechanical timing is correct, please inspect the intake camshaft spool valve for damage or the end of the valve having come apart, resulting in a portion of the spool valve being left in the adjuster bore. A magnet can be used to remove the parts from the camshaft. Despite the failure found, the repair should include replacement of the camshaft adjuster bridge, intake camshaft and the spool valve adjuster. 1 Technical Tip 01-15-08TT - Engine runs rough with MIL ON, DTCs P0011, P0016, P000A, P0341 and or P052A Transaction No: 2042502/4 Release date: 05/01/2020 Additional Information © 2020 Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
