Tech Tips Date: July 29, 2016 TT 87-16-02 2013-2016 Passat, Jetta, 2015-2016 Golf, GTI, Sportwagen, Golf R – Weak or No Air Flow from Vents – Evaporator Freezing September 2, 2016: Update to Information. If the customer complains of air flow sporadically dropping off or becoming weak while driving, check the following when the concern is present: If the condition is confirmed to be from the evaporator freezing, connect AC gauges to monitor the AC pressure. If AC is ON, switch to the OFF position. Make sure defrost mode is OFF as well. If the gauges still show compressor operation, disconnect the N280 to see if the compressor shuts OFF. If the compressor still shows operation after disconnecting the N280, refer to technical bulletin 2038368 (V871609) for replacement of the N280 if applicable. If the N280 is not able to be replace, replace the compressor and perform the AC flush per technical bulletin 2019947 (V871516). If the compressor is replaced, review technical bulletin 2043704 V871615) for “A/C Compressor Replacement, GFF Performance Test Required Regardless of Concern”. If the condition is not caused from evaporator freezing, further diagnosis will be required to check operation of the blower motor and HVAC flap motors.
