Technical Background
The LED Parking Lamp/Daytime Running Lamp
module (LED module), L176/L177 (Figure 2), or
the wiring to the LED module, is damaged during
headlight assembly at the supplier.

Lamp module (LED module), L176/L177
Additionally, water can enter through an
adjustment screw at the top of the headlight,
causing damage to the Daytime Running Lamp
and Parking Lamp control module (DRL control
module), J860/J861 (Figure 3).

Production Solution
The holding tool, which is used during the installation of the LEDs into the headlight, was improved. The
headlight adjustment screw was optimized to the headlight housing.
Service
1. Remove the DRL control module of the affected side. Inspect the female connectors located inside of
the headlight and inspect the male connectors located on the DRL control module:
If water and/or corrosion are found inside of the DRL control module (male connector side):
 Replace the headlight.
 Replace the DRL control module.
 Inspect the HID Gas Discharge Lamp control module, J343/344. Replace the module if water
and/or corrosion are found.
 Inspect the Headlamp Power Output State/Adaptive Headlight control module, J667/J668, if
equipped. Replace the module if water and/or corrosion are found.
 Proceed to step 2.
If water and/or corrosion are not found inside of the DRL control module, and there are no loose or
damaged connectors, swap the DRL control modules between headlights to see if the issue follows
the control module:
 If the issue follows the control unit, replace the affected DRL control module only. Refer to ElsaPro
>>Repair Manual>>Electrical System>>Electrical Equipment>>94 Exterior Lights,
Switches>>Removal and Installation>>HID Headlamp, from MY 2013>> Daytime Running Lamp
and Parking Lamp Control Module -J860-/-J861-.
If the issue stays with the headlight assembly, check for bent pins and/or damaged connectors on the
headlight:
 If bent pins and/or damaged connectors are found, replace as necessary.
 If bent pins and/damaged connectors are not found, replace the headlight assembly, then reinstall
the original control modules and bulbs into the new replacement headlight assembly. Refer to
ElsaPro >>Repair Manual>>Electrical System>>Electrical Equipment>>94 Exterior Lights,
Switches>>Removal and Installation>>HID Headlamp, from MY 2013>>Headlamp.
 Proceed to step 2.

Tip: The ElsaPro Repair Manual section labeled “LED Parking Lamp/Daytime Running Lamp
Modules L176/L177” refers to the actual LED module located inside of the headlamp. This module
contains the LEDs which are mounted on a circuit board with heat-sink. Starting with MY13, this
module cannot be replaced.
2. Adjust headlights after installing them back into the vehicle. Refer to ElsaPro >>Repair
Manual>>Electrical System>>Electrical Equipment>>94 Exterior Lights, Switches>>Diagnosis and
Testing>>HID Headlamp, Adjusting.
3. Adjust the adaptive cruise control (ACC) system, if equipped. Refer to ElsaPro >>Repair
Manual>>Chassis>>Suspension, Wheels, Steering>>44 Wheels, Tires, Wheel Alignment>>Diagnosis
and Testing>>Adjustment Procedure Using ACC Setting Device VAS 6190 or 6430.
