The navigation map update database 8R0051884CJ cannot be activated using Software Version Management.
Technical Background
The navigation map update database 8R0051884CJ (labeled “NAR 2015”) was only installed by the factory into
production vehicles starting in calendar week 45/14. It is not for customer navigation map upgrades. It is a serviceonly “rescue” database that should only be used for vehicles built between calendar week 45/14 and calendar
week 22/15.
The only intended uses of the navigation map update database 8R0051884CJ are as follows:
(For use with vehicles built between calendar week 45/14 and calendar week 22/15 only):
• For updating a service part that arrives without a navigation database installed.
• For emergency recovery of a customer’s navigation map database if it was deleted.
Tip: Customer navigation updates for MMI3G+ will be released once per year (usually around calendar week
22, but the date at which the update is available to the dealer may be later due to validation testing). For
production, the navigation database will be updated twice per year (at approximately calendar week 22 and
calendar week 45). The calendar week 45 map update in production will not be available as a customer-pay
update for service (see reference table in the Service section of this bulletin).

If navigation map update database 8R0051884CJ is required, proceed with the following repair:
1. Perform the update according to TSB 2028141/3, 91 Generic instructions for updating MMI3G / MMI3G+
software and navigation data.
2. Once the update is completed, start ODIS and jump to the “SVM Activation” test plan under “Audi Flashing”.
3. Select “Recover existing activations”.
If the SVM recovery activation fails, it means that the database was not meant for this vehicle. The hard drive
partition containing the navigation database will need to be deleted and the correct database will need to be
installed.
1. Complete the vehicle scan using Guided Fault Finding (GFF).
2. Perform test plan “J794 - Navigation data corrupt”. From the test plan tab:
Select Self-test >> Body >> Electrical equipment >> 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems>> 5F Information Electronics 1 J794 >> 5F - Subsystems, basic conditions
3. This test plan will delete the navigation database from the internal hard drive of the MMI.
4. Perform the map update (Steps 1-3) with the correct version (which was pre-activated based on the production
date of the vehicle--see table below).
Tip: Older databases may not be available for purchase due to the age of the release, as only the most
recent release is stocked for sale. If the customer prefers, an updated navigation map database and license
activation documentation can be purchased.
5. If a new activation is required, select the “Enable new activations” under “SVM Activations”. Ensure that the
license activation documentation is available during the SVM communication.
