• Recall 211274 [USA]: Worn bearings can cause the turbine wheel to contact the turbocharger housing or cause the shaft to break, causing an engine stall and increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volkswagen group of america, inc. (audi) is recalling certain 2013-2017 a8, s6 sedan, s7, s8, and 2014-2017 rs7 vehicles. The turbocharger oil supply strainer can become blocked, causing wear to the bearings due to lack of lubrication.
  dealers will replace the oil strainer and perform an oil change, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed august 4, 2022. Owners may contact audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 21h7.

Stress or wear of the body-sensing mat within the front passenger seat may cause the passenger occupant detection system (pods) control module to malfunction.

• Recall 136790 [USA]: If the operator were to load the vehicle based on information on the tire information label, they could overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volkswagen group of america, inc. (volkswagen) is recalling certain 2014-2015 audi s7 and 2016-2018 rs7 vehicles. The tire information label on these vehicles incorrectly lists the combined maximum weight as 1146 lbs/520 kg, when the correct combined maximum weight is actually 992 lbs/450 kg. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 110, "tire selection and rims."

• Recall 2018075 [Canada]: Label
  Certain vehicles may not comply with canadian motor vehicle safety regulations. The tire certification label may bear incorrect gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr) information. The label incorrectly states "520 kg" (1146 lbs) instead of the correct "450 kg" (992 lbs). If an owner were to rely on the incorrect values, it could lead to premature tire failure and vehicle overloading, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will apply a revised certification label with the correct values.

• Recall 2022133 [Canada]: Engine
  Issue: on certain vehicles, the oil strainer for the turbocharger oil supply could get blocked. If this happens, a turbocharger could fail. This could cause loss of engine power and/or cause the engine to stall. Note: this problem could cause different warning messages to display or the engine oil warning light to turn on. Safety risk: a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the oil strainer for the turbocharger oil supply. The dealer will also inspect and document the performance of the boost pressure system and change the engine oil.

• Engine stall - turbo failure investigation # EA22001

  On march 29, 2021, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened preliminary evaluation (pe) 21-009 after the agency received 58 reports alleging engine stalling in 2013-2016my audi vehicle models a8, s6, s7, s8 & rs7. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 4.0l, twin-turbocharged engine. Complainants reported that the vehicles stall suddenly with no warning while driving on the highway or in city traffic. Several of the complainants alleged an inability to restart. The complaints allege the major contributing factor to the engine stalling is the failure of the turbochargers. The complaints further allege the turbocharger failure is a result of oil starvation due to a clogged oil strainer.The location of the oil strainer in the turbocharger oil supply line is in the inner valley of the engine. It is not easily accessible, making regular service difficult. The oil strainer removes dirty particles and carbon deposits from the oil before flowing to lubricate the turbochargers. Over time, if the debris is not removed from the oil strainer, it clogs the strainer and prevents free flow of oil to the turbochargers and causes the turbine bushings to run dry and overheat resulting in turbine shaft failure due to thermal stress. In vws response to odis information request letter, vw provided approximately 611 warranty claims with unique vins, 70 field reports and 45 consumer complaints. These reports allege engine stalling due to turbocharger failure similar to the nhtsa reports described above. To date, nhtsa has received approximately 98 allegations of stall due to turbocharger failures. My turbochargers failed due to oil starvation caused by a clogged oil screen. My vehicle had 71,393 miles on it when the turbos failed and had no prior problems or warning lights. While driving to the dealership for a passenger occupant detection system recall (unrelated issue with no warning lights), my car lost power in traffic as i was pulling off the main road into the parking lot. Luckily i was able to coast most of the way to the service entrance but had to have the car pushed the rest of the way. The electronics still worked, the car would simply not turn over. I was very lucky that i was not on the highway or other major road when i lost power as there was absolutely no warning or signs of trouble: the engine simply stopped. The car has since been repaired by the audi raleigh dealership, but they were an absolute nightmare to work with and took forever to diagnose the problem. I believe there is a well know service bulletin related to this issue for this engine, but no recall has been issued. I also believe there is an open nhtsa investigation and i would like to help in any way possible.
