On 4.0l bi-turbo FSI engines, the pipe on the impeller side of the bank 2 turbocharger looks discolored when
compared to the pipe on the bank 1 turbocharger.
Technical Background
The crankcase breather is only connected
to the bank 2 turbocharger inlet. Blow-by
gases from the crankcase breather
discolor the pipe (Figure 1). This is a
normal condition.
