P2096

Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 1

DTC P2096, sometimes indicated as P209600 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a manufacturer-specific fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1.

The most common cause of this code is a vacuum leak. Other causes can include a faulty oxygen sensor, a clogged air filter, or a malfunctioning fuel pump.
The best way to fix this code is to find and fix the source of the vacuum leak. Other possible solutions include replacing the oxygen sensor or cleaning the air filter. If the fuel pump is malfunctioning, it will need to be replaced.

2015 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 370.0 miles

On may 28, my husband and i noticed these fumes in the car, but we didn't know where they were coming from. When we opened the car trunk, we found that the tire sealant in the compressor kit was leaking on it's own. He brought the car to the dealership's auto shop and the compressor kit was replaced. On july 19, the check engine light came on. I brought the car to the dealership's repair shop, again. I was told that the computer module that controls the engine wasn't working right and it had to be reprogrammed by updating it. They were very vague in explaining the problem. My husband called the repair shop on july 28 and asked them to explain what was wrong with the car. They still didn't explain the problem very well and they said that they already told his wife. The statement that the the repair shop gave us says "customer states that check engine light is on, verified concern scan code P2096, as per tsb pi409 perform ecm re program clear codes / rechecked system all at specs." the mileage at that time was 2470.

2013 DODGE DART with 84000.0 miles

After receiving my car from the dealership the engine light came on so i contacted them about it and he hooked it up tp machine told me to watch for the light again and let him know. I dont drive my car much so it was about a week later when i noticed the engine light again so i took it to oreilley's and the code P2096 which is fuel to ratio which has been a problem more then i can count. My car always smells like gas fumes that's why i try not to drive it unless i can keeps windows down because the smell is very strong. I was driving today and it kept stalling and when ii would start to go from a dead stop once it shifted into 2nd it would jerk real hard like the transmission is messed up again. The light of course comes back on after they clear ut out and it may have same code or it may be different each time. I am tired of risking my life and others because no one wants to do anything about this problem i've had for 6 years now and have so many odi complaints with nhtsa and complaints with fca i could have my own car complaint website. I would love to have them take my car in for testing of quiality of cars and prove to everyone this was a lemon car no if, ands, or butts about it. There is 1 in however many cars that are lemons and this is one of them.550 days in the shop being fixed that many times that for more then an entire year my car was being worked on. Should that be enough or is someones life gonna be what opens eyes. I've got ,more documents to show the many many problems i have had and have passed them along to my attorney so if something happens in result of this unsafe car there will be action taken.

I took my car in for a recall and as of may 13th i'm still without my vehicle and still having to make the payment plus insurance. I don't know when i will get my car but it has been in the shop enough times i filed for a breech of warranty but chrysler only offered me 4000 take away the 2000 for attorney fees so 2000 is what i would have walked away with. I did not accept the offer and now i'm trying to figure out what to do. My car doesn't have a remedy for the issue but it's had transmission problems since day 1 had new engine new turbo new starter new gaskets new radiator and much more and nothing has been because of neglect. I truly feel i have a lemon on my hands and need help getting into a safe car. The dealership won't do anything about it told me to get a lawyer so i did but unless we agreed on an amount they wouldn't proceed. My car is unsafe to drive and i'm trying to get a lawyer that can take care of this or help me get a safer car for me and my kids. consumer stated pcm/tcm has been a recall in the past engine light being on is code P2096 which caused leak in one of the hoses. *js

2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA with 45235.0 miles

I have owned my car for a little over 3 years now. I started having problems with my fob not unlocking my car. I would had to press the unlock button several times to unlock. Then i also started having problems with not being able to turn on my car(with the push start) because the brake pedal was really stiff. I had to press hard on the brake in order to successfully turn on my car. Recently i've had a check engine light come on sporadically. Sometimes the light comes on and off while during my drives in the city. Two days ago, i attempted to turn on my car and the car began to start, but continued to make the ignition start sound for several seconds--about 10 seconds-- than usual. This was of course not the norm, so i pressed the start up button to turn off the car. When i attempted to turn on again, it turned on fine with the check engine light on again. I went to pep boys and meneike to check this out and they said that i had a P2096 problem. This code was followed with the description as follows: post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1. Essentially i was told that the ratio of oxygen and fuel , the engine take is off. They thought it was a leak that would cause the lack of fuel going into the engine, but when they investigated it, they didn't find a leak. As of now, i don't have a real diagnosis for my car. I'm not sure if all of these problems correlate or have a domino effect on each other, but the issue will take a while to take care of.

2011 BMW X3 with 95000.0 miles

It has first caused check engine light own with a fault code, then different electrical components started affecting including lights, brakes , acceleration, pickup, speed control while driving . I already repaired twice out of pocket as it was a pickup and check engine light on issue with code P2096 which involves pcv components associated with the recall. Due to this defective component i've already spent 4000+ in repairs and still the check engine light on and i'm driving unsafely as i don't have money to repair further. I also had to put my family on risk with 2 small kids as this suv we use as a family car. Since the issue is reported a year ago and Bmw still didn't offer any fix into purchase a new car to safeguard ourselves. I demand Bmw to refund me 100k due to all these issues caused due to this problem and offering no timely fixes and causing stress and financial frustration.

2011 SUBARU LEGACY with 104000. miles

I purchased my 2011 Subaru Legacy 2.5i limited in april 2018 with 99,110 miles. It was driving fine until about 104,000 miles when there started to be some stalling and slipping problems. I had a P2096 code and assumed it was a vacuum or brake booster leak. I had bad shaking coming from around the torque converter and stalling at stop lights. By the time my mechanic and i were able to realize it was a transmission problem i had already missed the window for Subaru's extended powertrain warranty on my vehicle. I never received a notice of the recall. I have a cvt transmission that Subaru claims never has to be serviced, but now i am stuck with a failing transmission on a car with only 106,000 miles with all regular maintenance done. My car will stall of or slip in the transmission when traveling on the interstate or while breaking at stoplights and once caused me to rear end another vehicle in hickory, nc because my transmission slipped while coming to a stop at a stop light. Nobody was injured, but it made me fear for my safety in my car.

After four weeks hma declined to provide assistance. The vehicle was reassembled and returned to the owner. The vehicle could not be driven off the dealer lot, it stalled immediately after starting.
