File in Section: - Bulletin No.: Service Bulletin 18-NA-014 Date: January, 2018 TECHNICAL Subject: Malfunction Indicator Lamp Illuminated, DTC P2096 Set Brand: Model: Chevrolet Malibu (VIN Z) Model Year: VIN: from to from to 2016 2016 — — Engine: Transmission: 1.8L (RPO LKN) 5ET50 (RPO MKE) Involved Region or Country United States, Canada, Israel Condition Some customers may comment that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is illuminated. The technician may find DTC P2096 set. Cause This condition may be caused by a software anomaly in the engine control module (ECM). Correction Updated software has been released to address this condition. If you encounter a vehicle with the above condition, reprogram the ECM with the latest available software. Service Procedure Parts Information 1. Ignition ON. 2. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. 3. Verify that no other HO2S or Fuel Trim DTCs are set. ⇒ If any other HO2S or Fuel Trim DTCs are set, go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List Vehicle. ⇒ If only DTC P2096 is set, go to Step 4. Important: Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. Install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger. 4. Reprogram the ECM with the latest available software. Refer to K20 Engine Control Module: Programming and Setup in SI. No parts are required for this repair.
