Figure 1. Coolant marks shown around coolant pump. Technical Background The coolant pump is sealed off with a slip ring seal to the input shaft. To prevent the seal from drying up a minor coolant leak is necessary to lubricate the seal. In some cases, the excess coolant can be discharged to the outside via the vent hole. With time, the discharged coolant dries up and leads to coolant deposits. This coolant pump does not have to be replaced and was not responsible for the coolant loss. The coolant loss can be from other leaking components. In those cases, the coolant runs to the lowest point and is first visible on the coolant pump. Production Solution Not applicable. Service Remove the coolant marks from the coolant pump and the surrounding components and bleed the cooling system according to ElsaPro. Check the cooling system for leaks according to the repair manual. If no new coolant loss is detected, do not perform any repairs. If a leak is found, repair as necessary. Warranty Claim Type: 110 up to 48 Months/50,000 Miles. G10 for CPO Covered Vehicles – Verify Owner. If vehicle is outside any warranty, this Technical Service Bulletin is informational only.
