00 Possible drivability issues due to the use of winter-blend fuel in a warmer season 00 20 37 2059437/1 May 5, 2020. Model(s) Year VIN Range Vehicle-Specific Equipment All 2010 - 2020 All Gasoline Engines Condition Customer states: MIL on. Drivability issues. Fuel smell. Difficulty refueling. Technical Background As a result of actions due to the coronavirus (Covid -19) and the subsequent reduced economic activity, market fuel consumption has been significantly reduced. The fuel distribution system is dependent on high throughput to transition from higher vapor pressure winter fuels to lower vapor pressure fuels for the summertime EPA regulated ozone season. In response, EPA has enacted waivers of seasonal fuel requirements. For more details, please reference the EPA website: https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/nationwide-fuel-waiver-concerning-summer-gasoline. This could result in more volatile/higher vapor pressure fuel in the fuel supply chain longer than normally permitted by the EPA or the States. Customer issues related to higher volatile fuel combined with warmer ambient temperatures are possible, and standard diagnostic procedures may not lead to a root cause. Potential issues could include vehicle refueling concerns, drivability issues, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) activating the MIL, increased evaporative emissions, and fuel odor. Issues are most likely to occur in warm temperatures within days after refueling. Production Solution Not applicable. Page 1 of 2 © 2020 Audi of America, Inc. All rights reserved. Service To prevent unnecessary diagnostic time and/or repairs, question the customer if the concern started shortly after re-fueling the vehicle. The cause may be due to the situation described above and re-fueling with summer blend fuel is required to solve the customer concern.
