    The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 79 complaints and several tread (transportation recall enhancement, accountability and documentation) field reports alleging a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, or fuel odor in model year (my) 2015-2020 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles manufactured by volkswagen (vw). the complaints allege that these conditions are caused by the failure of the suction jet pump located in the fuel tank. Some consumers report puddles, pools, or spots of fuel in the rear right area of the vehicle, near the fuel tank filler door and rear right wheel well. The fuel tank either straddles the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler or is adjacent to this pipe in these vehicles. Fuel leaking near exhaust system components has a higher potential risk of fire as the components are operating at higher temperatures compared to other areas of the vehicle. No fires have been connected to this issue to date. Vw issued recall 16v-647 on september 2, 2016, for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank, which was designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (evap) system and stated the suction jet pump may have been damaged during assembly. Vw states that this damage could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the evap system which may, over time, accumulate in and cause a leak from the charcoal canister filter element. This recall covered certain my 2015-2016 audi a3 and volkswagen golf vehicles. Repair in recall 16v-647 replaces the suction jet pump only. In october 2022, vw issued warranty extensions (awa-22-12 & vwp-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in my 2015-2020 audi a3 / volkswagen golf and my 2019-2020 jetta gli vehicles for 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump. Vehicles included within recall 16v-647 are included within the scope of the warranty extensions. Should the suction jet pump installed as the remedy for recall 16v-647 fail, these vehicles will receive an improved suction jet pump in the new fuel tank. The warranty extension only applies to vehicles that experience the subject failure. Consumers received notification of the warranty extensions via mail. Odi is opening this recall query (rq) to assess the remedy repair effectiveness of recall 16v-647 and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems.   • Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

    Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072.Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.The petitioner asserts that hybrid and electric vehicles to which the standard does not apply should be found to contain a safety defect. In support of the petition, the petitioner includes findings contained in a bill introduced in the house of representatives in 2009, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2009, h.R. 734, 111th cong. (2009). A related bill, the pedestrian safety enhancement act of 2010, became law in january 2011 (pub. L. 111-373). The petitioner requests that nhtsa require all electric and hybrid vehicles comply with fmvss 141, regardless of production date.The defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition.The associated product list is not exhaustive and may contain vehicles that are equipped with pedestrian alert sounds.

The contact owns a 2018 audi a3. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 21v198000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer and manufacturer were made aware of the issue and informed the contact that the remedy was not available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

I've been waiting since march for audi nj to repair my airbag (pods) and it's already may 1st this is absurd and completely on the hands of audi and audi only. I don't want to risk having anyone in my passenger seat and god forbid get into an accident and it would be on my hands. Audi has to step it up because i'm more than sure i'm not the only one waiting for this to be available to service our cars.

On initial start, occasionally the car will become inactive while driving (sometimes stalls/sputters & sometimes just doesn't advance even while pressing on the gas pedal). Often the car spontaneously responds within seconds if it has not stalled, but recently now it stalls and sputters, then needs to be restarted. I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic with safe distance, when the car became "dormant" and stalled. Luckily, there was a center lane that i could coast into to avoid causing a serious accident. Upon restarting the vehicle, the screen displayed "start/stop system: malfunction". I shut off the system and drove home. The next morning, the car did the same exact thing- had just started up the car and began driving- and it lost all power to the gas pedal/we almost came to a complete stop- but the car was still running, then it quickly reset itself. This time my service engine soon light came on. I called the dealer and took it in for service. I was told that it was bad gas and that i needed to take it to certain gas stations -marathon or shell only and only put premium fuel in it (although the manual states that i can use 87 or 89). The car is unsafe and is dangerous to drive. I am putting myself and my occupants in danger and also the lives of others around me. I understand that there is a class action law suit that was filed in 2020- this cannot wait- there must be a recall- someone will get seriously hurt or even die because of this.

Audi just continues to attempt to fix the car, but under oregon lemon law i only needed to allow audi wilsonville 1 chance at fixing the pods problem because and the issue can cause serious injury or death and i quote from the audi recall notice "in the event of a crash there would be an increased risk of injury to the occupant in the front passenger seat if the passenger airbag is switched off/not working." the dealership is offering to pay off the remainder of what i owe on the car, but i would still be losing over $17,000 in money i put down and have already paid in monthly payment. The warning lights come on randomly when i'm driving or stationary waiting at traffic lights. Audi wilsonville doesn't seem interested in working with me to find a resolution.
