Technical Service Bulletin Damaged warranty parts have been returned to Audi of America with evidence of excessive torque used when installing the screw and/or excessive screw length (Figure 1). Service The appropriate screw length is dependent upon the cumulative thickness of the license plate plus any decorative frame placed over the license plate. Recommended screw length: • License plate without decorative frame: M6 x 8 mm. • License plate WITH 2 mm thick decorative frame: M6 x 10 mm. Manually install the license plate screws using a handheld screwdriver. If the screw bottoms out, remove this screw and select a shorter screw instead of applying excessive torque. Otherwise, damage may occur to the license plate bracket screw inserts. In the event the license plate bracket screw inserts are damaged but the openings for the inserts in the license plate bracket are not, the license plate bracket screw inserts are available as a replacement part (WHT 003 200).
