Condition
Customer states:
 Brief (less than two seconds) sudden increase in the engine speed.
 When the concern occurs, the selected gear is briefly (less than two seconds) not shown in the driver
information system (DIS). This may appear as follows:
a. Instead of D or S showing the display will be blank.
b. Instead of M1 or M2 only the M will appear.
Workshop Findings:
 There are no faults stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 0001) or the transmission
control module (TCM), J217 (address word 0002).
 There are no oil leaks from the transmission
 Duplication of the concern may not be possible as it is very intermittent.
Technical Background
The software needs to be updated.
Production Solution
New TCM software is in preparation for this concern.

1. Explain to the customer that a solution is forthcoming and that no repairs are possible at this point. Do not
replace any components for this condition since this will not resolve the customer’s concern.
2. Create a PSS record in the PSS application through the Pending Service Solutions (PSS) link in AccessAudi
(under Related Links >> Service), or through the Technical Assistance page in Elsa.
