Technical Background On vehicles with Audi virtual cockpit (PR number 9S8) the messages "TPMS malfunction" or "TPMS malfunction: See Owner`s Manual" appears in the instrument cluster briefly after the engine starts and goes out after a few seconds. After the engine starts the instrument cluster takes a shorter time to initialize compared to the tire pressure loss indicator. The message "TPMS malfunction" appears while the instrument cluster is already initialized and the tire pressure loss indicator is still building up. The message "TPMS malfunction" goes out after some seconds. Production Solution Not applicable. Service If the message "TPMS malfunction” only appears briefly after the engine start and then goes out, there is no technical malfunction. There are no wheel revolutions, as a result the tire pressure loss indicator would not be able to operate. Therefore, there is no DTCs in the ABS control module, J104 (address word 0003). From a technical point of view there are no malfunctions as the vehicle works correctly. Do not repair or replace any component, release the vehicle. Note: This TSB applies only under the above conditions. If the message "TPMS malfunction" appears under other circumstances or there are any available DTCs in the ABS control module, proceed according to the Guided Fault Finding.
