Technical Service Bulletin 34 Whining/howling noises above 74 mph in 7th gear 34 22 57 2066784/1 April 14, 2022. Model(s) Year A3 Cabriolet 2017 – 2018 A3, and S3 2017 – 2022 TT, TTS, and TT Roadster 2019 – 2022 VIN Range Vehicle-Specific Equipment All 0GC Transmission Condition Customer states: • Whining/howling noises can be heard from the front of the vehicle/engine compartment when driving in 7th gear at speeds between 74 mph and 100 mph when the engine is at operating temperature (engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C). And/Or • Whining/howling noises can be heard from the front of the vehicle/engine compartment when driving in 3rd gear at engine speeds between 1200 rpm and 2500 rpm when the engine is at operating temperature (engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C). Workshop findings: • One or both customer statements can be reproduced. Service If the above has been confirmed, continue as follows: Installation of a damper weight on the shaft of the front driver’s side drive axle will eliminate the concern. Obtain the damper weight and roll pin from your parts department (see Required Parts and Tools below) and install them following the directions in this Technical Service Bulletin. • Position the damper weight on the driver’s side drive axle as shown below (Figure 1) and mark the correct installation position. Technical Service Bulletin • Position damper weight at the position marked previously on the left wheel input shaft again. Secure damper weight using a commercially available screw-type hose clamp (Figure 2, green arrow). • Insert roll pin into the left or right hole in damper weight (Figure 2, red arrow). Figure 2. Secured damper weight with inserted roll pin • Press roll pin carefully into damper weight using suitable pliers (Figure 3). Do not leave the screw-type hose clamp installed or a new vibration will be created. • Test drive the vehicle to confirm the repair.
