Technical Service Bulletin Service • Clean the transmission and oil cooler area thoroughly in the affected area using suitable workshop materials. • Dry the area of the leak with rags and/or compressed air. • Using oil leak detection spray (part number: G 001 900 A1 or equivalent powder-based oil leak detector) on the affected area on gearbox housing. Note: Never use leak detection dyes in Audi transmissions. • Perform a short road test to warm up the gearbox (engine oil temperature at least 80°C) and assess the leak again (refer to Figure 1, red oval). • If the leak cannot be traced to the areas below the gear oil cooler/separating joint, this TSB does not apply. Continue diagnosis of the oil leak without claiming this TSB. • If the leak can be clearly traced to the area below the gear oil cooler at the separating joint, you must document your findings with photos that clearly show the leak. Keep the documentation photos with the warranty records of the repair. Repair the affected area as described below: • Audi A3 vehicles: Remove the 12-volt volt battery and battery tray as specified in Workshop Manual. Audi TT models with a 12-volt volt battery mounted in the trunk do not need the battery removed. • Remove bolt for housing (Figure 2, red circle). Then check if there is a film of oil in the hole (using a mirror and flashlight) and on the threads of the removed bolt. • If there is no film of oil in the hole and/or on the bolt for housing, the gearbox must be replaced according to the repair manual (Repair option 2 in the Warranty table). Document your findings with photos. • If there is a film of oil in the hole and/or on the bolt for housing, replace the bolt with a new bolt for the housing (See Required Parts and Tools table below). Tighten bolt for housing (Figure 3) to a torque of 20 Nm + 90° (Repair option 1 in the Warranty table). • If necessary: Install battery and battery tray (if previously removed) as specified in Workshop Manual.
