Technical Background
When the fuel tank in a vehicle is replaced, the original tank must be properly flushed to neutralize the remaining
gasoline or diesel fuel.

Warning:
The fuel tank must be neutralized before shipment or disposal. This procedure pertains to any fuel tank, whether it
is being returned to the Warranty Parts Receiving Center or is being disposed of by other means.
After the fuel tank has been removed, flush/neutralize the tank as follows:
1. Pour .5 liter of emulsifier (part number: D 200201L) into the tank.
2. Add 4 liters of water.
3. Cap all openings.
4. Agitate the tank for at least 30 seconds, turning tank assembly in all directions to ensure that emulsifier
reaches all areas inside of the tank.
5. After agitation, drain neutralized mixture into special “Waste Material - Hazardous” container. Dispose of
properly in accordance with local, state, and federal EPA regulations.
Warranty
When procedure applies to vehicles under warranty, use the following:
• There is no labor reimbursement for neutralizing fuel tanks.
• Add .5 liter of the D 200201L cleaning agent to the warranty claim.
All warranty claims submitted for payment must be in accordance with the Audi Warranty Policies and Procedures
Manual. Claims are subject to review or audit by Audi Warranty.
