Technical Bulletin Service A. Repair Edge Corrosion on the Hood Remove the Hood from the vehicle. See Repair Group 55 in Elsa. Remove the corrosion with Pneumatic Brush Grinder Set -VAS6446 or similar tool. Sand the overlapping areas with P360 - P400 sandpaper. Clean the base surface with a VOC compliant cleaning solution. After a corrosion repair and before sealing, insulate the base surface with a Two-Part Wash Primer and then fill with Two-Part HS Performance Filler. (Both Locally Sourced). After the filler has dried, the filled area must be dry sanded with P400- P500. While doing so, make sure to avoid “sanding through”. Then clean the sanded areas with a VOC compliant cleaning solution. After the filler has dried and has been sanded, the metal edges in the fold area must be thinly sealed with Polyurethane adhesive -AKD 476 KD5 05. Paint the hood according to Volkswagen specifications. Install the hood on the vehicle. See Repair Group 55 in Elsa. Note: When repairing, the seam sealant is to be returned to replicate stock visual appearance and layer thickness. In order to avoid damage and malfunctions, seam sealant must be applied smoothly in the area of attached components. Water drain holes must remain free. B. Replace Hood due to Through-Corrosion (Perforation) Note: If through-corrosion (perforation) is not present, hood replacement will only be accepted if it qualifies per the Reimbursement Policy section of the Warranty Policies and Procedure Manual. This section provides important guidelines when considering component repair vs. replacement options (the “80% rule”). Paint the new hood according the Volkswagen specifications. Remove the old hood. See Repair Group 55 in Elsa. Install new hood. See Repair Group 55 in Elsa. Page 3 of 7 Plus attachments. © 2016 Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. All rights reserved. Technical Bulletin Warranty Note: Dealers may complete the repair as described without prior authorization (through a WISE Warranty Repair Acceptance request). Documentation required: Clear pictures, completed estimate and body shop invoice must be saved and kept on file at the Dealership for audit purposes. Labor time units (TU), Material units (MU), and Material unit rate are correct at the time of publication. The time units and/or material units may differ if the repair catalogue is updated. The information in the repair catalogue applies, except for the open time items (labor operations ending in 99) which are calculated at actual time multiplied by the body shop labor rate. The material allowance (Paint material price per unit) is subject to change. Refer to WISE > Resource Center > Forms > Paint/Corrosion for the most current forms. This section is applicable for vehicles within the terms of Volkswagen’s Limited Warranty Against Corrosion Perforation. For vehicles outside the terms of the Limited Warranty Against Corrosion Perforation this section is for information only. This bulletin may be provided to outside shops to ensure the proper repair is completed. Note: Claim Processing Options Option 1: Utilize the attached form examples and pre-populated forms on WISE to assist with calculating the reimbursement amounts. This will expedite the claim review process and reduce the time to pay the claim. Note that miscalculations are subject to claim adjustment. For the complete set of pre-populated Paint/Corrosion Claim Form templates associated with this Technical Bulletin, refer to WISE > Resource Center > Forms > Paint/Corrosion. Option 2: Email repair estimates to [email protected]. The Paint and Corrosion Team will calculate the warranty allowance and complete the required form(s) on behalf of the dealer.
