UPPER SIDE FRONT STRUT NOISE
Description: On some Elantra (AD) vehicles, a noise may develop in the upper side of the front strut
mount. There are no vehicle performance issues associated with the noise. This bulletin provides
information on replacement of the front strut nut.
Applicable Vehicles:
 2017 model year Elantra (AD, VINs starting with “KMHD” only), produced from AUG 24, 2015 to
APR 15, 2016.

Service Procedure:
1.
Remove both wiper arm plugs (A).

2.
Remove both wiper arm mounting nuts (B).
Tightening torque:
22.5 ~26.4 N.m(2.3 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 16.6 ~ 19.5
lb-ft)
3.
Remove both wiper arms.
4.
Disconnect the washer nozzle hose (C).

Remove the left and right cowl top, side
covers (D).
6.
Remove the four retaining clips (E) securing
the cowl top.
7.
Remove the left and right cowl top side pad
(F).

Remove the cowl top (G).

9.
If applicable, remove the upper strut nut
cover (H) from both sides.

CAUTION
Do not use an impact tool when removing or
installing the nut. Threads can be damaged.
Always use the SST or equivalent and hand tools.

10.
Remove the left and right strut nuts (I) using
the SST P/N 09546-3X100 (J) or an
equivalent tool.
Discard the nuts.

11.
Install one (1) new strut nut on each side
using the SST and a torque wrench.
Tightening torque:
98.0 ~ 107.8 N.m(10.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~
79.6 lb-ft)
12.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order
of removal.
