Technical Service Bulletin Service First, identify the portion of the mirror that is the source of the noise by separately taping two areas and performing a road test with the tape in place: 1. Apply tape to the seam at the rotation collar between the mirror mount assembly and the painted cover (Figure 1) to determine if the noise is coming from the mirror base. • If the mirror base is not the source of the noise, move to step 2. • If the mirror base is the source of the noise, replace the mirror base according to the ElsaWeb Repair manual: Body >> Body Exterior >> 66 Exterior Equipment >> Removal and Installation >> Exterior rearview mirror >> Exterior rearview mirror. Figure 1. Tape applied to rotation collar seam. 2. If the vehicle is equipped with lane change assist, remove the first piece of tape, then apply tape to cover the lane change assist marker lens (Figure 2) to determine if the lane change assist lamp is the source of the noise. • If the lane change assist lamp is the source of the noise, replace one or both of the lamps according to the ElsaWeb Repair manual: Electrical System >> Electrical Equipment >> 96 Interior Lights, Switches >> Removal and Installation >> Lane Change Assistance >> Lane Change Assistance Warning Lamp in Exterior mirror. Figure 2. Tape applied over the lane change assist lens. Tip: If the noise is not coming from either the mirror base or the lane change assist lamp, see TSB 2033517, 66 Wind noise from exterior rear view mirror housing at turn signal seam. © 2013 Audi of America, Inc.
