Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail
delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty
Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns.
Description:
This bulletin provides information related to the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Transmission
Control Module (TCM) software updates for certain 2018MY SONATA, equipped with 2.0L turbo
engine and 8 speed automatic transmission. These vehicles may experience Malfunction Indication
Light illumination with any of the following DTC(s) below:
 P219C: Cylinder #1 Imbalance Error
 P219D: Cylinder #2 Imbalance Error
 P219E: Cylinder #3 Imbalance Error
 P219F: Cylinder #4 Imbalance Error
 P0731: Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio
Note 1: There are no drivability symptoms associated with DTCs P219C, P219D, P219E and P219F.
Note 2: Some vehicles may experience limited engine power (“Limp Home”) mode with DTC P0731.
NOTICE
Both ECM and TCM software updates must be performed on each vehicle.
Must reset TCM adaptive learning values after ECM and TCM updates are completed.

NOTE 1: Submit Claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen.
NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing Service Campaign T2Q and
the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate warranty claim using the same
Repair Order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval Request for
goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.

 Refer to TSB 15-GI-002 for the PC-based GDS ECU update procedures.
NOTICE
You must initially perform GDS ECM/TCM Update in Auto Mode.
 If the ECM/TCM Update starts but then fails in Auto Mode, perform the update in Manual
Mode to recover.

WARNING
GDS Vehicle Battery Voltage Warning:
If voltage is below 12 volts as per the below GDS warning, then select Back and run the
engine at least 20 minutes to ensure an adequate battery state of charge for reliable update
results. Turn ignition back on, and then retry the ECU update again.
